Gorgeous Wedding Cakes!

January 6th, 2012 @ 7:49 am by Mrs. Dalmatian

Well bees, this just may be the last installment of my posts about wedding cakes because I have found a cake and I. AM. IN. LOVE.

While I cannot wait to have a mouthful of moist cake and sweet frosting, its hard to imagine cutting into these edible masterpieces!

When I came across the cake of my dreams (see above), I did a little more research and came across a few more stunners.

I am definitely not a purple person, but the crazy detail on this cake is pretty impressive:

I am also not a square-cake person, but again, the detail of the petals on this cake was pretty darn striking:

This last cake takes ombre to a whole level—not just the frosting, but the cake too! And look at those swirls!

So while I am sad to see my wedding cake inspiration exploration come to an end, I am happy I found a cake design that I think will work perfectly at our wedding! And I am extra happy that Mr. Dalmatian and I were able to agree!

Do you like the look of ombre at weddings?

How much thought did you put into the design of your cake?

I love ombre cakes, and that first pink one is gorgeous! There was a thread on the boards a few weeks ago talking about this. I never cared much about cakes until I saw this idea — now I’m obsessed! Can’t wait to see what you end up with.

Wow. I’m not even a cake person, but I think I just dribbled at my desk at work.

I’m only getting a cake because I “should” have one, the in-laws looked horrified when I said it might be one of the things we omit.

This has changed my mind about leaving it out and now I don’t just want a cake I want a cake I LOVE :)

I saw that first one on SMP yesterday and it was the only one out of the whole issue that I noticed, it’s gorgeous!

I think ombre, done well, is gorgeous, particularly for a springtime wedding.

I’ve spent exactly zero time thinking about the design of the cake. I’ve done wedding cakes on the side for years, and I figure I’ll wing it when I sit down to make it. I spent plenty of time, however, agonizing about the flavor of the cake. I’ve finally settled on an almond pound cake with cherry filling.

As an aside, have you seen this gorgeous thing?

LOVE that top one–is it buttercream? You can’t do intricate design work with buttercream but that cake is perfection in its simplicity and I bet it sure tastes good!

I love the ombre look however it’s pretty hard to do without using fondant. It’s typically sprayed on and bakers don’t like to spray over buttercream. So looks like I’ll be skipping this pretty look.

This is so pretty! Although I’m sad there’s no more cake discussion; it’s always one of my favorite wedding subjects :)

Love all the inspiration pictures, especially the first and last ones! We ended up going with cupcakes since my sister offered to pay for them :)

Oh my, those cakes are to die for! I am completely in love with that first pink one, the purple one, and that last pink rose one. I’m sensing a new found love for colours in graduating intensity but oh my, I just love the cakes you have posted!

Love the ombre look.. also beyond in love with Maggie Austin cakes but alas, it’s about a billion dollars outside of our budget. So interested to see what you ultimately choose!

They all look so tasty. I don’t want our cake to be too amazing because I won’t want to eat it, haha.

Here is a yellow ombre cake, it is finished in buttercream with only the top tier in fondant (but that tier was floral foam)

That cake with the pink swirls and the cake inside is also different pinks – it is wrong that I am a grown woman but I want that for my birthday this year?

I’ll let my avatar answer your question :) Surprisingly enough though, we ended up going with a white cake with white fondant accents which fit the look of our wedding more. Still a huge fan of ombre…maybe for the shower?
