Hey, hive! Hope you all had the happiest of holidays! I’m going to jump right into my last Hawaii post, because I am SO eager to start my wedding recaps now that I have our pro pics! I believe when we last left off, Sparks and I were on our way to Maui…

The flight over was soooo bumpy, and I’m not much of a flier. I *may* have treated myself to some liquid courage, Mai Tai style, on the way there.
Once we landed safely in Maui, I was eager to get to our resort. I’d been looking forward to staying there ever since we finalized our honeymoon plans, and this place did NOT disappoint!

Aloha, Grand Wailea!
I would have been happy just staying in bed, staring at the ocean from our room (and we did that a lot ), but we had so much fun exploring the island. And I have to say, Maui is absolute paradise. It was a good thing Sparks did most of the driving, because I couldn’t take my eyes off the magnificent scenery.
Here are my Top 3 favorite things that we did while on Maui:
1. Luau
To me, going to Hawaii and not seeing a luau, is like coming to Chicago and not eating deep dish pizza. You just have to do it. Sparks and I really wanted to see a more traditional show, so we did a lot of research beforehand and found the Old Lahaina Luau. I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend this show. It had all the traditional elements we were looking for, stunning grounds to roam around, and local artisans selling their crafts before dinner. It’s also one of the (very) few shows on Maui that isn’t associated with a hotel or resort.

Sparks, getting his shop on

2. Paia and the road to Hana
I really didn’t know what to expect when Sparks and I set out on the road to Hana. I guess I expected we’d hop in the jeep, crank up the tunes, and cruise around the mountains for a little while. Ha… that’s really funny now. Because the road to Hana is a SERIOUS all day activity. As in, do NOT start at 1PM like we did if you plan of seeing everything. We’re amateurs.
We didn’t get to drive the entire road, but it didn’t matter. We had so much fun together that day. We left late, discovered the adorable hippy town of Paia:

Had one of the best lunches of our lives at Mama’s Fish House:

And still had time to enjoy and black sand beach, a lava field, and some of the most stunning views I’ve ever laid eyes on:

We had a lot of adventures on Maui, but the absolute best thing that we did while on the island was…
3. Nothing
Yep, nothing. The days we spent lounging by the pool, ordering room service, and checking out the spa (seriously, the spa at Grand Wailea… OMG), were my favorite days of the honeymoon. There’s just nothing like sitting on the beach with your new husband, knowing you have nothing to do for days. I really miss that feeling! So my advice to all you future honeymooners, is to soak in those moments. Because those moments are what the trip is all about.
Ummm, are you guys ready for wedding recaps?! Because I am freaking excited! Let’s do this!
PS: After we left Maui, we headed to Honolulu for 2 nights before our flight. It was pretty low key and awesome, but I just have to mention and recommend the amazing hotel we stayed in! We were at The Modern Honolulu (formerly The Editon). Super modern, super swanky, super AWESOME.
Check it out if you’re heading to Oahu!
