After our entrance into our beautiful reception venue, we sat down and enjoyed a lovely entree (appetiser for the North Americans) and for me, only my second meal of the day. Oh boy, did I scoff it down. After that, I just wanted to keep chatting with our guests. However, Mr T reminded me that everyone else probably hadn’t inhaled their meal yet, so I should probably wait for a minute.
Regardless, it was then time for our first speech from my dad, who was incredibly nervous about speaking in front of 106 people! Before the wedding he mentioned that he had found a great idea—that he just had to pretend everyone was in their underwear. Real original, Dad. Anyway, I suggested that he should just tell everyone how nervous he was and that he was imagining them all in their underwear…then go back to that every time he got nervous again.
We then launched directly into Mr T’s father’s speech. He did an amazing job delivering a heartfelt and funny speech. Looking back over the photos, we are so glad that we got the dads the hire suits; it really made them look very dapper.
We then had our main course of an awesome beef fillet, which was devastating because I could barely eat it all. We then had another three speeches to get through—my maid of honour’s;
the the best man’s. He knocked it out of the park with an awesome best man speech.
We sat at our beautiful bridal table soaking in all the speeches!
Next up was my husband!! We made the decision that even though I wasn’t speaking, I would stand up with Mr Teaspoon and hold his hand throughout his speech. It was lovely to stand there together while Mr T thanked our guests, our family, and our friends and gushed about his beautiful wife—me!!
Something that I wanted to do was to thank my new in-laws for being so supportive of both me and our relationship and for welcoming me to their family, so whilst it was only small, I gave my mother in law my bouquet. She was taken completely by surprise, but I think she really liked the sentiment.
Next up, we put our (my) poor dancing skills to use!
