Haley Mansion, Joliet, IL About Me: I'm a city girl who loves a good escape, so I'm planning a Chicago wedding outside of the city. I've been described as a quirky yet down-to-earth drama queen who loves fiercely. I used to be a scientist, but now I'm learning to navigate the world of non-profit organizations. I love cooking, blogging, shopping, and music, and movies (Hans Zimmer is my favorite movie composer). Mr. Kettle and I had a short courtship and now we have a happy home with our cat-who-thinks-she's-people, Belle. We spend our days and nights with good food, live music, video games, family, and friends. Our wedding has become this wonderful excuse to bring together hundreds of people we can't bear to be without.

Wedding Weather

January 23rd, 2012 @ 11:48 am by Miss Kettle

Now that our wedding is less than three weeks away, looking at the weather has become a bit of an obsession. I know they never give real predictions further than 10 days out, but I can’t help it. I’m obsessed.

I remember talking to Mrs. Sunhat (who lives in Indiana, not too far from me) a couple days before her wedding and lamenting that she wouldn’t have the snow she desired. I want snow for our wedding, but I’m trying to be realistic. In this weird Chicago winter, I really can’t be sure of anything.

I happened to go to weather.com and look at their 10 day forecast, and their forecast finally included February!! February 1st was on the forecast.

I don’t know about snow, but I now have an obsession with how each day’s weather lines up with the average weather for that day. I guess I feel like doing all this pointless analyzing will give me a firmer idea of what kind of weather I can expect.

All I know so far is that it will likely be very very cold with temperatures in the low 30s or upper 20s. Thank God our wedding is indoors in only one location.

Did you worry and hem and haw about the weather leading up to your wedding? Did the predictions prove true?

Mine is indoors too, so it doesn’t matter to me or our guests! Just the trip from the car to the building!

I did! We got married last February and I too was secretly hoping for snow haha. Well it was in the forecast and actually snowed (lightly) the Thursday before but ended up being 65 and sunny on our wedding day. can’t complain right? ill take 65 in February. crazy weather we have down here haha.

Our 10 day forecast was a whole lot of sun (we wanted snow too!), then the 5 day included a 20% chance, then the day before was 50% chance of 1-3 inch accumulation and the reality? It snowed nearly a foot! My point is, the weather changes so rapidly and is completely out of your control so enjoy whatever the weather gods give you :)

The night before our wedding, we had those massive thunderstorms in Chicago (last summer). The power in my parents’ house went out THREE times the night before the wedding, and I was so afraid my alarm would never go off and that the rain would just ruin our wedding. Luckily for us, the power stayed on, and the sun came up–and turned into one of the hottest, muggiest days of the year. Oh well…you win some, you lose some!

I became obsessed with tracking the weather too! Did you know that accuweather.com gives 15-day forecasts?? :)

Hopefully, it’s just cold with no snow! I have a fear of a hurricane hitting us in North Carolina the weekend of our wedding (even though we had exactly one last year).

Ours is all indoors in the same location too, so it doesn’t really matter, but I’m still hoping for no rain! I hope you get your snow Miss Kettle!

I am soooooo worried about the weather lol
Since we are having the ceremony on the beach, it will be a total bust if we can get married with our toes in the sand. Ok, so maybe not a total bust, I still get to marry Mr. PF :D
