Wedding Packing List

I like making lists. I used to carry around a small Moleskin notebook exclusively filled with them: items to buy at the grocery store, texts to read before next grad class, errands to run on the weekend, things to do during the week. I love making lists and then crossing them off.

Needless to say, I have a lot of wedding-related lists shared on Google Docs. Most of them are crossed off. We’ve booked all of our vendors. We’ve paid all of our deposits. We’ve finished all of our projects. The only thing left to do is pack! I always make a packing list and lay all of the items out before I put them in a suitcase. It might take more time to pack this way, but doing so means that I won’t forget anything important.

Here’s an example of my packing method before the 2009 Boston Marathon

Because we have a destination wedding, we really need to make sure that we don’t forget anything important. Vegas is about a four-hour drive””on a good day””from our home. If we forget the rings or the place cards or the programs, we can’t just turn around and get them. So our second bedroom has been turned into a packing staging ground. Items are separated into different wedding related categories: ceremony, reception, hotel room, rehearsal, etc. We even have one of my whiteboards set up to keep track of the list!

Just a small collection of the things that are coming with us to Vegas!

Here’s our packing list:

  • Her Wedding Attire: wedding dress, crystal belt, blue underwear, blush heels, gold flats, hair comb, pearl and crystal earrings, pearl necklaces, engagement ring, wedding band, ivory cardigan with pearl buttons, “something old,” “something borrowed,” silk clutch
  • His Wedding Attire: J.Crew suit and vest, black dress shoes, dress socks, white undershirt, boxers, tie, tie clip, wedding ring
  • Her Getting Ready: robe, wedding dress hanger, perfume, sewing kit and safety pins, breath mints
  • Her Toiletries: Warby Parkers, lots of extra contacts, contact solution, contact case, makeup, face wash and lotion, nail file, nail polish, nail polish remover, curling iron, shampoo and conditioner, electric toothbrush and toothpaste, razors, deodorant, body wash, mouthwash, brush
  • His Toiletries: Glasses, face wash and lotion, nail clippers, shaving kit, electric toothbrush, body wash
  • Ceremony: marriage license, extra copies of readings on note cards, programs, multiple copies of VOWS
  • Reception: candles, vases, framed photos, photo mat guestbook, photo mat guestbook sign, silver Sharpies, place cards, favors, seating chart and instructions
  • Misc: joint account checkbook, joint account credit card, digital cameras (2), prescription sunglasses (2), parents’ gifts, “bridesmaid” gifts, “groomsmen” gifts, extra suitcases, thank you notes
  • Her Clothes: jeans, blazer (2), lace top, lace tank and undershirt, rehearsal dinner dress, green flats, cream and black heels, black sweater, tank tops, shorts, strapless bra, bra, underwear, lingerie, black purse, jewelry
  • His Clothes: jeans, button-downs, blazer and slacks, tie, t-shirts, red wings, boxers, socks

How does my list look? What are you packing for your wedding?

I am going to have a make a list so I don’t forget anything either! I may just forget the marriage licence or something equally important!

This is one of my big stresses right now since I always forget SOMETHING, and we can’t do that traveling to the wedding. I love lists too. I have a little grocery list app on my Bberry that I use for all kinds of stuff. I think I’ll try out your lay out method this time around. I always think I forgot something and dig through my suitcase(s) during packing, and it’s annoying as hell.

LOL Miss. Mole, your lists are AWESOME! Also, can we please note how unfair it is the amount of things girls must include in their packing vs. the guys…I mean really!!

    So excited for you guys!!

Oh, and I think you’ve got it all covered!

    I also love lists.
But I noticed one thing: Dress shirt for Mr. Mole?

@RoxanneV: I am now obsessively double checking my lists to make sure we have everything important.
@Miss Porcupine: Oh that sounds like a neat app! I should look for something like that. If only there was one that made sure I never forgot anything on a trip that I couldn’t just pick up at a local CVS/Walgreens!
@Brittney: Haha I KNOW! It feels like our pile is 75% mine.
@Sara: Ooh, good catch! I know that they are packed, but I totally spaced on putting them on my list. Mr. Mole must have had them on his list. :)

This is a great list! I also have a list of things that I’m going to need to bring with me… Being 3 hours away means I won’t be able to send my mom or Mr. C back home to get it. 😛

I only have a 30 minute trip from my home to the wedding site, but I have serious anxiety thinking about forgetting something. What if I forget to put something on the lists. Oh man, the next four months will be rough….

I am trying to decide how to best pack everything so that I don’t have to reorganize it later and I won’t forget anything. I have my stuff organize similarly! I hope it works for you!

I love lists! I make my packing lists for trips weeks in advance using the Google task list. I can go back and tell you every item I’ve packed for trips for the last 3 years right down to the exact accessories. It’s a sickness. Lists def. help while packing and re-packing to make sure you don’t forget anything coming home too!

I needed this for my wedding. Where have you been all my life, Miss Mole?
It looks like you’re all ready to go, getting so close now :)

@Miss Coyote: I’ve had fleeting thoughts of a scenario where I had to make Mr. Mole turn the car around just as we reach the Strip because we forgot [random wedding object here]. Haha.
@knvprincess143: Don’t start stressing about this yet! It’s better if you only worry the week before your wedding. 😉
@anna4041: You are apparently the voice of my healthy conscience. I just shoved my Nike Frees and a workout outfit in my bag.
@amethystmeg: I really hope so too! Thank you!

@BreeninBoston: Wow, you are super organized! And great tip about using the packing lists to repack to go home. In that picture from 2009 above, you can see a hint of my favorite jeans in the whole wide world (a pair of Serfontaines). If I had your method, I probably would not have left them accidentally in Boston. :(
@Aud1628: Thank you! We leave this evening!
@Mrs. Pony: Haha, thanks! I know. I can’t believe the engagement is almost over. Woo hoo!

So exciting that the wedding is so close! Your packing list is phenomenal and I am bookmarking to reference when the time comes for us.

Good luck rounding everything up and wishing you a smooth, light traffic drive!

I need to make lists while packing. I forget something every single time I go somewhere. The man and I are to the point that we plan to replace whatever I forgot.

I love lists too!! What about hairspray to accompany curling iron? And what about pony tail holders?

@Miss Turkey: Thank you! I am super excited. :)
@Future Army Wife: I have to say that I am far less anal about packing items that I can easily replace. Mr Mole kept reminding me that as long as we had our license, our rings, and our outfits, everything else was just bonus (and replaceable if necessary).
@Jamieg: Oh good adds! My hair is too short for ponytails, but others will definitely benefit from those reminders! Thanks!

I would add (because maybe I’m crazy and accident prone!) sunscreen, First Aid kit, female items (just in case!), an extra purse (I’ve had purses break on me during trips!), cell phone, cell phone charger (I literally put those two on my list every time because I always forget otherwise!) and maybe some snacks and water for the ride that way you don’t have to spend any extra money!

This was a very helpful list! Will really help me be prepared as we’re having our DW next week!
I would add veil and garter to this list :)

We are getting married in Italy in 2014. I want to get a lot of our candles and decorations there but I still want to bargain shop and get a deal.
We simply cannot carry very much with us because we are also staying for our honeymoon and would have to lug it around. Any suggestions, tips, reminders or hints from destination brides?
