My Secret Weapon

January 30th, 2012 @ 7:59 am by Mrs. Snapdragon

So for my birthday this year, Bossyboots gave me an item I’ve been wanting for several years… a Clarisonic!

My Secret Weapon : wedding beauty dallas Gallery Mia2 Pinkangle 669x375 10062011 gallery_mia2_pinkangle_669x375_10062011

If you’re new to the Clarisonic game, this thingamabob is a turbo cleaner for your face. I realize this may seem like a strange gift, but I’ve been wanting one of these babies for a few years, but I could never bring myself to buy it. It seemed like such a luxury.

That being said, I am 33. Not elderly by any means, but my skin has definitely aged since college, when I was made of teflon. I have wrinkles, lines, reptilian scales—you know, all the normal markers for aging. :)

Bossyboots picked out the Mia 2 for me—in PINK—so it’s perfect. I have to tell you…. this thing has absolutely lived up to its reputation. Everything you’ve read about it is true. My skin is in the best condition it’s been in for years. I use my Clinique mild facial cleanser with it twice a day, and have nothing but great things to say about it. Many people I know use Cetaphil, but Clinique works just fine for me.

After a month of use, I’m sold. This is the best device I’ve used on my face ever (although I also liked the Neutrogena Sonic Wave, which is much cheaper).

Do you have a Clarisonic? What are your best tips to the us sonic-newbies?

Okay, you have to dish! I have super sensitive skin…would it be too rough? Wedding blogs have made me feel old and I am trying to do some little things to help. I’m intrigued!

Ooo Snapdragon, I finally broke down and bought one of these last week!! I have occassional breakouts, and like you my skin is just a little more tired as I’m getting older (and esp. in the winter it gets dry and flaky). I’ve only used it like five times so far, and I like it, but the real test will be time. I’m glad to hear after a month you are sold! You don’t happen to have any before and after pics?? :)

@Miss Mink: The Mia comes with the sensitive skin brush, I think, so it’s really light. Plus my Mia 2 has 2 speeds, one is a little lighter than the other. I started off with the slower speed because my skin can be sensitive too, and I’ve increased to the normal speed because I had no problems.

Hi everyone—I’m pretty new to hte boards, but I had to answer, as the Clarisonic is one of my favorite things in life. I’ve had a Clarisonic for years (my dad’s in the derm business and picked me up one for free!! at a convention before they were available in stores.)

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it and it really does miracles for your skin. That said, I also have very sensitive and thin skin. I found when I used it too much (or as directed 2x’s a day for a full 2 minute cycle—the brush makes noises as to when to start and move to another part of your face); it made made my skin very raw and not looking so great.

The derm said to cut that usage in half—so now I only use it 1 minute once a day (every night before bed) and 1 minute 2x’s per day 3-4 times a week (morning and night).

And it is amazing! Also, I only use the softest brush head.

@jpalm13-great for blackheads…I’d also use the Biore strips right before cleaning.

I received a Clarisonic for my birthday last year and it has completely changed my skin! Its never been as clear, as healthy, or as even-toned! The first time I used it, I washed my makeup off as I do every night and then used it. I was in disbelieve at all the makeup it took off of my face that was worked into my pores!

I was really worried about using it because I have very sensitive skin. I have the sensitive skin brush attachment, and I gradually worked up to using it 1x a day, before bed. I used it every 3 days for a week, then every other day, and finally 1x a day after 3 weeks. My face never reacted to the change!

@Miss Mink: @Dandelion D:
I love my clarisonic mia and I have super sensitive skin. I use it with the sensitive brush head and started only using it once a day. I had zero problems with it which is amazing for me since I usually have such issues with trying new things on my skin. I also use Clinique mild with it and can’t believe the difference in my skin!

I’m really intrigued by this.. what are the differences between the Clarisonic and the (much cheaper) Olay version?? I used the Olay but it seemed to irritate my skin after the first week of use. :( Glad to hear that the Clarisonic version works well for you, Snappy!

I love my Mia! Or, more accurately, my face loves my Mia. I don’t think it’s a miracle product, but I can definitely see improvement in my skin. I have pretty sensitive skin and I’ve never had a problem with it. I’m still trying to find the perfect product to use with it, so I might try the Clinique face wash next, I usually have good luck with their products.

@Mrs. Pony: i am in LOVE with my mia 2, i previously had the mia 1 but upgraded. the best combo i can recommend to anyone with sensitive skin who is looking for fabulous skin is using the sensitive brush with philosophy’s purity made simple cleanser. i alternate that with the microdelivery cleanser (exfoliant) and then top it off with tarte’s maracuja oil. i swear it is the best combo of all time, you will literally feel like you got a facial. any of these products can be returned to sephora if you don’t like them. swear by it!!

I bought mine a few months ago and was estatic- but the results weren’t that great to me, or maybe i was expecting too much? Has anyone used philosophy with it? That’s what I use. I’m wondering I should try Cetaphil instead since people seemed to have luck with that cleanser.

Say what, Ms. SnappyD?! You’re back!! I’ll admit, I haven’t kept up w/ Weddingbee too well since getting hitched myself, but it’s good to see you back! You look great -best wishes!!

@katiegirl84: This is the same boat I am in. I bought it a little over a week ago, and I like it, but I’m not in LOVE yet. It does make my skin soft and certainly gets all the last traces of my makeup off. But I haven’t noticed any difference in my pores or acne scars. I’m giving it more time so we will see!

OMG! I read reviews on the Mia for months before investing & I will agree, it’s A.MA.ZING!! I used Cetpahil daily cleanser and moisturizer & Murad Acne System interchangably and my skin is beautiful!!!! As a a dancer, I wear tons of makeup (and I’m a big sweater), so my skin has been so out of whack for the past few years. I can say that over the past month, my skin looks better now than it did when I was a teen & I’m 28!!! It’s totally worth it the price!
