Miss Fox's Picture
Miss Fox, Washington DC/Havre de Grace, MD Age and Occupation: 26, Massage Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Field Support Engineer Engagement Date: April 18, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m a dancer turned massage therapist who was born and raised in New York. Alas, true love has brought me “south” where I still maintain my penchants for pretty shoes, wine, crossword puzzles, cherry blossoms, and the Mets. I own more sunglasses than a normal person should and don’t eat red meat (though I make up for it by eating my weight in sushi). I tend to be a big planner who likes to get things started early, but generally end up being indecisive and procrastinating when it comes down to it. I have a (not so) secret crush on Chris Carrabba, but my loyalty and love ultimately goes to the future hubs, of course! Together, my Foxy man and I love to discuss (read: debate) politics and current events, have Mario Kart and Scrabble duels, and just laugh. A lot. We’re hoping and planning for a laid back, fun, summery, rustic vibe to our June wedding that will be genuinely “us” – that is, if we finally make some decisions. Huzzah!
About Miss Fox

The Little White Dress

January 31st, 2012 @ 11:44 am by Miss Fox

Here’s the deal: since our venue is located in a cute little residential neighborhood, there is a noise ordinance in effect all nights, weekends included. Thus, our reception needs to be over by 9:30PM.

Foxy and I both decided that this was much too early to end the evening. This wedding will be over two years in the making—we want to enjoy the day and the night as much as humanly possible! Wouldn’t you?! Enter: the after party.

Apparently this is a very common thing at the Vandiver. 99% of newlyweds and their guests head the whole three blocks over to “downtown” Havre de Grace after their reception to continue partying the night away with participating friends and family. Having visited the two main bars in the area several times, we’ve decided on a place to go that we will have our DJ announce shortly before the reception is over. We’ll also have our DOC call the bar and warn them a wedding fiesta is coming their way. I’m incredibly stoked about it all.

The only issue this presents is that of my wedding dress. I asked Foxy if he thought I should just wear it out to the bar, which he didn’t think was a very good idea. I don’t think he realized it at the time, but he basically told me to get another dress. Boom. ;)

So I’ve been looking high and low online for some little white dresses to change into after the reception. My criteria were that it had to be sassy but simple enough to still “go” with my wedding day hair/jewelry/shoes, short, white, and not expensive. Which is not as easy as it may seem (or as I thought it would be).

While I did find some reaaaally cute dresses (and all under $100!), none seem to be exactly what I’m looking for or wanting.

This one I puffy heart love, but I think it’s too lacy for the rest of my look.

ASOS Lace Dress with Scalloped Neck

This one is okay…a little basic though. I can’t find a picture of the supposed “cutout back” anywhere, which makes me cautious.

This one I can’t decide on…I kind of love it, but I don’t know how I’d look in it or if it’s the look I’m going for at the after party.

ModCloth Bold As Ice Dress

The last one, I actually bought. It seems to have everything—especially the simply sassy thing—but it fits me kind of funny. Let’s just say I don’t exactly look the way the model does in it.

I know I still have time to look some more, but I’m honestly getting a bit discouraged. The more I think about it, the more I’m wondering if maybe I should just wear my wedding dress. It’s not a big, heavy dress and, more importantly, when will I ever wear it again? N.e.v.e.r. So why not sport that hot piece of dress for as long as I possibly can? Ohhh, the decisions.

Did you do a dress change at some point on your wedding day? What are your thoughts on a little white dress for an after party?

I would keep looking for a little white dress. Yes, you’re never going to wear your wedding dress again, but it would be a real shame for it to get super dirty and gross from a bar.

I don’t know if you’re still open to look elsewhere, but I’m dying to buy one of the under $50 wedding dresses from The Limited, but I have no reason to. So maybe you should…

They only have 2 styles left though: http://www.thelimited.com/category/whats-new/special-offers/332

I’d wear it!!! You’ll look gorgeous in it, and in reality, it probably won’t get any more dirty at a bar than it would in your venue. You might as well be the belle of the ball wherever you go! :)

i got so frustrated searching for a short dress. in the end, i am SO GLAD i kept with it/bought one. i wasn’t even sure i’d change into it, but i absolutely did. felt like party time, haha :)

i found a few good ones at online stores i’ve never frequented– lord & taylor, dillards? shopstyle can be good for rounding up choices. good luck!

I am in the same boat, I know I should wear my gown as long as possible but I know I will be sick of it by the end of the reception! I have a white short dress from White House Black Market that I wore to undergrad graduation but I love that lace one and have been keeping my eyes open for any other dresses that I like!

Start stalking gilt group, haute look etc. they often have sue Wong dresses on awesome sales! And those fancy pants numbers are perfect for 2d dresses- that’s what mine was. Best decision ever btw.

Wear your dress to the bar! I was hesitant to wear my big (but sort of simple) gown to the bar but I’m glad I did. We had our after party in a town that is known for it’s bar scene so I was terrified that it would get wrecked. It did get a little dirty along the hem but it all came out after a trip to the cleaners. And NOTHING beats having “Congratulations!!” screamed at you from a bunch of random, slightly drunk strangers!

Hey! I see your dilemma! I stumbled upon this today and it’s so awesome! You enter a raffle to win one of the dresses! What I loved so much was the fact that a portion of the ticket sales supports a charity! I love that! If I win the dress I’ll wear it knowing I helped which is awesome! So check them out! I hope it helps!

I wasn’t sure if I would buy a different dress for the after party. Then I started thinking about the logistics of where I would change, who would bring the second dress to the reception?Would I need to bring a different bra? And my head started to spin. So for simplicity’s sake I’m wearing my wedding dress out.
I’m looking forward to those pictures a lot too!
Whatever you decide, do not settle for a dress that makes you feel less than perfect! No one wants to feel self conscience or uncomfortable on their big day.

I have been to both of those bars in Havre De Grace and on a weekend they get super crowded. I would definitely get a party dress! You do not want some drunk fool spilling something on a dress you paid alot for. Get something cheap but cute. You can wear it for something else at some point. Maybe your anniversary next year!

I keep going back and forth on what to do with this myself. We only have our venue til 11pm (but the coordinator suggests trying to get everyone out by 10:30pm) so we’re having an “after party” three blocks down at an awesome three story bar. I want to wear my dress but then again, I don’t want it to get ruined!

our wedding is ending at 930, too. :(
but it’s because of my parents throwing a hissy fit over having gap time between our church ceremony and the start of our reception. oh well!

but we’re going to a downtown wilmington de bar outside of the hotel most of the guests are staying in. luckily this bar is big enough that i wont have to worry about my dress being ruined!! downtown wilmington has some nice places, but isn’t exactly a party hotspot on the weekends

I would reccomend http://www.whitehouseblackmarket.com they might have something classy and sassy. On the other hand, I would say wear your dress! If it gets beer spilled on it…bfd, it’s the end of your wedding day…a memory stain if you will! :) Zappos also has dresses and a killer return policy!
