The Dalmatian-moon: the Reveal!

February 3rd, 2012 @ 8:11 am by Mrs. Dalmatian

I told you about our honeymoon wish list. I told you about the unbelievably smooth booking process through our travel agent. But I have not told you about one minor detail…where are we going?

Since I have already made you wait this long I will not drag it out any longer… we… are…going…to…(ok, I lied, but I’m done now, hehe)…SECRETS MAROMA! It is an all-inclusive resort on Maroma Beach, just south of Cancun in Mexico.

As soon as we told our travel agent about our wish list items, she recommended this location. She has been there multiple times and loved it. After reading through reviews online and coming across friends of friends who have been there—it seems that everyone has only amazing things to say! Yay! Hopefully we will be joining them in spreading rave reviews come May.

In recommending this choice, our travel agent explained that not only are they all-inclusive, they are classy all-inclusive. What does this mean, you ask? I figure you are asking because when I heard this I had to ask exactly what makes it qualify as “classy.”

First of all, it is an adult only resort. This hadn’t even crossed my mind when I was looking at places, but once it was pointed out to me it did seem like a pretty big perk. I love little kids as much as the next person (in fact, probably more than many people). But when I imagine our relaxing vacation—squealing toddlers are not exactly featured.

I was also completely oblivious about the differences between all-inclusive resorts. For example, apparently some of them require you wear wristbands, whereas at Secrets resorts you go wristband free (classy, huh?). Also, there are no limitations on which restaurants you can eat at when, how often, etc. Again, this didn’t cross my mind before (who knew how uninformed I was about all the different things to consider—again, thank goodness for travel agents!) but it is another perk that I think will make our experience that much sweeter.

So, my lovely bees, we will be spending our hot and sunny, thought and worry free, honeymoon vacation at the classy Secrets Maroma!

What details helped you pick your honeymoon spot? Have you ever stayed at an all-inclusive resort?

We hit up Secrets Silversands a couple years ago and loved every minute. All-inclusive, adults-only is definitely the way to go in Mexico as far as we’re concerned :) The food is awesome and the place is gorgeous. Take an excursion to Tulum/Zip Lining/Cenotes (underground caves you can snorkel in!) if you can! It was amazing. Have a great time!

That sounds great! Adult-only is definitely the way to go for a honeymoon–and I bet there will be tons of other honeymooners!

OMG Dalmation – we had the honeymoon of our lives at Secrets Maroma! Loooove it!

FYI- Make sure your travel agent lets them know your on your honeymoon! You get a great little coupon package. We had a romantic dinner on the beach that costs $200, but with a honey moon coup it was $100. We also did spa treatments on 2 different days (Relaxing hydrotheapy & couple’s massage). We had so many coupon vouchers to use towards one spa treatment (we saved like $75-$100) and then got 15% off the other when we just showed them our honeymoon letter from the resort. You have to bring a copy of your wedding invitation with you, and the Secrets people will take it from you when you check in (so make sure its in your carry on, because they will take your luggage to move it your room for you right before you check in).

Also the gift shop is waaaay overpriced, so bring your own sunscreen & aloe from home.

Oh!!! One last thing!!! You HAVE to go to the Habachi style restaurant, but make sure you make a reservation first, otherwise you don’t get to sit at the big Habachi table. Make this reservation like the first or second day you get there and the you can go later in the week (it fills up quick). The ice cream dessert there is to die for! Make sure you get it! We wanted to go back and have that ice cream every night, but we only did it once. Oh well ;-) .

Great choice, lady! I’m sooooo jealous! I was just there in May and it all ready seems so long ago!

Oh! I just remembered one last thing! Our travel agent set us up with an Apple Vacations package. The Apple Vacation reps were at Secrets and you could set up excursions. We did one half day snorkeling trip, and a day trip to XPLOR (http://www.xplor.travel/). I would recommend this to anybody! It was amazing! Ziplining, driving aquatic vehicles, swimming in underwater caves (we did that twice); the whole thing is amazing. It’s like a Six Flags of crazy outdoor activities. We only found out about it once we got there and got a flyer of activities from our Apple Rep, but it was amazing. We really set out to have a “relax-a-moon”, but that one day was unbelievably fun. Lunch was included and the Xplor park had great food. You HAVE to do it!!! I have pictures I can show you from our trip there, if you’re interested, because it’s amazing and so worth it!

You’ll love the convenience and relaxing mindset of an all-inclusive. We’ve stayed at (the same) one twice and really haven’t been impressed by the value at traditional resorts since. That is a beautiful destination too!
