Gifts for the (Special) Guests

February 5th, 2012 @ 9:50 am by Mrs. Turkey

Now that we’ve past the 100 day mark until our wedding, there are a number of things that have started creeping up on the “to do” list.

Gifts for the (Special) Guests : wedding gift ideas philadelphia Pb253161 PB25316
We interrupt this post to say, AHHHHHH!!!When did we get into double digits?!?!?!

One of the things that has been coming up in conversation recently is “thank you” gifts. We’ve finished the bridal party gifts already, but there are a number of other people involved in our day that we want to thank in a special way. The question becomes…how?

Dear Turkey family and those involved in the wedding…please read no further!

Love, Mr. & Miss Turkey

OK, now that we have eliminated any “lurkers,” let’s get honest…Mr. Turkey and I need.your.help!

When we think about thank you gifts outside the bridal party (when I refer to the bridal party, I mean bridesmaids, groomsmen and ushers), we’re feeling a bit lost and slightly under-prepared.

The following are people we want to thank with gifts, preferably those that can be given at the rehearsal dinner:

  • Parents of the bride
  • Parents of the groom (x2)
  • Grandparents of the bride
  • Ceremony readers (4)
  • Ceremony soloist (to clarify, this is my cousin, not someone from the church)
  • Slideshow “artiste”

Simple math tells me that leaves us with 14 gifts to carefully and thoughtfully choose and purchase in time for our May wedding. That’s a LOT (thank goodness we have the bridal party done!*).

For our parents and grandparents, Mr. Turkey and I are thinking that they might be most interested in wedding albums / the gift of photos. One thought was to maybe get them a nice frame and put an engagement photo in as a placeholder with a note that they’d be receiving a wedding album with their favorite photos. I know, it’s pretty “usual.”

With all the parents at our engagement party(L-R) FSMIL, FFIL, FMIL, FSFIL, Mr. Turkey, Miss Turkey, Turkey Dad, Turkey Mom

We have already picked up these emergency kits for the mothers (adjusted to say MOG as appropriate) as a little something extra / cute for them to open.

We’re also debating personalized / embroidered pocket squares or handkerchiefs for the fathers and grandfathers.

This is one I found on Etsy and have bookmarked (shop by Inspired Stitches)

But that’s just about where our ideas end (again, I know our parent / grandparent gifts weren’t overly unique).

Our thoughts for the others (readers, soloist, artiste) have ranged from a bottle of wine,

to chocolates (or some sort of sweet),

to gift cards.

Even if we did a personal design, this feels a little impersonal…

But we are just SURE there are other ideas we have not thought of.

So, hive, please help us out here…what have you thought of / purchased as thank you gifts for those involved in your wedding? Please share any ideas and/or links!

*Will post about the bridal party gifts later!

That’s tough! My friend got me a pretty heart keychain for being a reader at her wedding, which was nice. I think simple is fine–people help out because they love you, not for the swag!

I think that the embroidered pocket squares or handkerchiefs would be a great idea. Very sentimental.

PS- that white dress is SO cute! Where is it from?

I’m feeling the same way, only 83 days to go and wow do we have some major things to decide on and do! We are def doing wedding photo albums for grandparents and parents. And I was also looking at the etsy personalized handkerchiefs for my dad. He always carrys one with him so I thought it would be perfect :) Still trying to figure out something for the bridesmaids and groomsmen along with the grooms father. I also found personalized candy wrappers that have your wedding party on them and I thought they were fun, just havent ordered them yet. Good Luck, I know i need it too!

I have been thinking of gifts lately too for the parents, and have pretty much thought of all these ideas but also something I thought of was a giftcard for a nice fancy restaurant or even a overnight package at a casino both of our parents love to go the casinos once in awhile.

p.s. I love that white dress, please do tell where is it from?!? :)

We are giving the wedding coordinator a giftcard to a Bed & Breakfast. I don’t think we can go that big on anyone else. I really like the hankies and I think a bottle of wine would be nice, especially if it was served at the wedding.

p.s. That dress really is darling!

We did wedding albums for our parents. But because they contributed so much financially to our wedding, and helped so much, we got the moms spa GCs, his dad a gc to his favorite restaurant, and my dad a gc to his favorite camping/hunting store.

I think photo albums and frames are a great idea for parents and grandparents. If you went the wine route, you could get some custom “thank you” labels. They’re pretty cheap on the various wedding sites!

I found this from Invitations by Dawn for the bride’s parents.

Very sweet.

J Lohr is excellent. Music is a major part of any celebration what I found is you need either a great band or a truely awesome DJ who can put on the show that inspires everyone to dance. That’s one of the main things your guests will remember along with the food. If you’re getting married in Northeast US, then you should check out Jon Scott. He’s a profession radio dj and can do really advanced light shows too. His site is http://www.trust-the-entertainer.com/ – California has DJ Craig. Very well known, too.

@All In: Like that idea for a gift. I know we’re not required to get them anything, but just want them to know how much we appreciate what they’re doing.

@mrsbdell: Thanks! The dress is a Taylor brand from Macy’s. I added the flower belt myself – it’s from J. Crew.

@Future Mrs K: You’re even closer than me – good luck! Sounds like the handkerchief works well for your dad since he uses them (I think ours might end up more as keepsakes). Where did you find the candy wrappers? That sounds cute.

@Aud1628: Like the fancy restaurant idea! The dress is from Macy’s (Taylor) and the flower belt is from J. Crew.

@Margaritachka: Oooh spa gift cards…

@LongDistancePlanning: Glad to hear the albums went over well!

@Future Army Wife: Great idea for the custom wine labels.

@pinkstwabewies: That’s very sweet.

I did a hanky for my father and left it on his bed the night before the next morning he told me he had tears in his eyes when he saw it. Just make sure who ever you get a hanky from that they set the spacing so you can fold it correctly. Big pet peeve of mine.

I suggest something fun like a tour around town if they are from outside the area, lunch date with you or just do beer and cards one night after the wedding (no wedding talk other than the stories that you didn’t know about at the time). My BM also got days of no wedding “crap” when we hung out and they choose when to use those.

Just make sure that you add a personal note with each one and they will love it.

@redheadc2: Thank you for the recommendation on the hanky.

And like your other gift idea – like that it’s more personal.
