OK, well maybe just the cakey cake part. There are so many beautiful cakes available now! We aren’t constrained by limitations of the imagination. When I was growing up, oh how I thought this was beautiful…

Today, not so much. I could totally fall for this lovely lady. (Cakes are people too, you know.)

But realistically that won’t fly with my better half or our baker (no sugar flowers—no problem). Sweetie Scone and I both love a simple delicious-looking (read: not so perfect) cake. We are lovers of butter-cream frosting, and there will be no fondant on our cake. We want people to look at the cake and go “Mmmmm, I want a piece.” My nieces are known swipers, and I don’t want to be peeved that my perfect cake has a finger swipe visible, so we are aiming for texture and not so perfect.
We might go for a straight up dirty frost.

Or a textured pseudo-dirty frost.

But then there’s also the tailored frost.

But also we like the visual interest of having different textures…

I sourced all of that inspiration in my obsessive blog searching, and then our fantastic florist had to share with me this fun bit.

What do you think, can we hide the finger swipes and have a simple, tasty-looking cake? Don’t you just love…
