Ice Cream and Cakey Cake

February 8th, 2012 @ 3:36 pm by Mrs. Scone

OK, well maybe just the cakey cake part. There are so many beautiful cakes available now! We aren’t constrained by limitations of the imagination. When I was growing up, oh how I thought this was beautiful

Today, not so much. I could totally fall for this lovely lady. (Cakes are people too, you know.)

But realistically that won’t fly with my better half or our baker (no sugar flowers—no problem). Sweetie Scone and I both love a simple delicious-looking (read: not so perfect) cake. We are lovers of butter-cream frosting, and there will be no fondant on our cake. We want people to look at the cake and go “Mmmmm, I want a piece.” My nieces are known swipers, and I don’t want to be peeved that my perfect cake has a finger swipe visible, so we are aiming for texture and not so perfect. ;)

We might go for a straight up dirty frost.

Or a textured pseudo-dirty frost.

But then there’s also the tailored frost.

Or maybe we really like bold pipes.

But also we like the visual interest of having different textures…

I sourced all of that inspiration in my obsessive blog searching, and then our fantastic florist had to share with me this fun bit.

What do you think, can we hide the finger swipes and have a simple, tasty-looking cake? Don’t you just love…

We went with the pseudo-dirty frosted or what our bakery called “the homemade look”.

We got tons of compliments on it, I guess people hadn’t seen that look before?

PS. Now I want cake!

Wow, so many choices!! And they all look so delicious… My BFF was going for this look and they totally screwed it up. It was my friends fault though because she didn’t take the baker a picture. Also, I want ice cream cake now. Would it be bad to just get one to celebrate the weekend?

@Miss Petit Four: Sounds like an excellent reason to get an ice cream cake… pre-valentine’s day celebration maybe? That sucks that your BFF’s cake went awry.

@cupkate: Yay! I sing that all the time…

@Miss Turkey: Sorry for inducing the need for cake ;)
@mittens111211: Ah the “homemade look” also a good name, sorry I made you want cake ;)
@SaraP2012: I am totally with you on the texture!

Love the texture and taste of butter cream, hopefully you won’t need to hide too many swipes :)

@Mrs. Pony: Mmmme too! I am just hoping they don’t break through to the cake with swipes ;)

@everytide(Stella): the cake tasting definitely is a perk ;)

The textured look seems to be so in right now and I totally love it. We’ll be having a more “uniform texture”, if that makes sense, but I’m with you – pretty, simple, and delicious!
