Wedding Website Woes

February 22nd, 2012 @ 4:24 pm by Miss Boa Constrictor

First on this week’s wedding planning to-do list is working on a wedding website. We decided early on we wanted to have a website to share all the extra wedding information that won’t fit on the invitations. Being almost completely computer illiterate, I knew we would definitely use a template site. I narrowed my search of template sites using only a few requirements:

  • FREE
  • easy to use
  • a theme that somehow matched our wedding vibe/colors

I visited around four or five different free wedding websites, but the themes they offered left much to be desired. WeddingWire’s theme selection was the most diverse so I decided to go with them. I toyed around with half a dozen of their themes before finally narrowing it down to two.

I kept the website layout simple, adding only pages with information about us, our history, general wedding facts, our honeymoon, and a guest book. We have added the wedding website link and password to the bottom of our wedding invitation’s info card for easy reference. Wedding websites are unheard of in my circle (Lil’ Boa’s reaction was, “OMG your wedding has a MySpace”) but hopefully it will be to their liking and convenience. It still needs a little tweaking (Mr. Boa still owes me his message to the guests) but I’m really happy that it turned out better than I expected.

Which of these two themes do you like better?

If you have a wedding website, did you make it “from scratch” or did you use a template site? Which site did you go with?

I like the first one better, it has more eye candy!
We used Wix.com for our site. It is AWESOME if you are looking for something in between templates and a professional flash website!

I was gonna say the first one, but I don’t like that the heart has that awkward white space around it. Plus the heart of hearts is precious :)

Definitely like #1 better.

We have a wedding website and went with theknot.com we didn’t put a whole lot of thought into it. We used a simple layout and added our own personal touches and pictures. It turned out really lovely and we were able to customize with our color scheme. I love it!

I like #2 better- I agree about the weird spacing around the heart in the first one- especially after taking a layout and typography class- spacing is crucial.
We used the knot’s free website template. I’ve dabbled and taught myself quite a bit in web design- but I need to keep it as simple as possible with all the other details :)

I like number 1 the best. We are the first in my family to have a wedding website, my father impressed with it. Many of our friends are traveling so its been really helpful. I have had so many people contact me asking questions. I gladly answer but I also direct them to the website if they have several questions and I know they can use a computer. I just can’t answer questions for 200 ppl.

I like the first one as well…

made our wedding website from scratch to match the STDs I designed. was pretty simple since that’s part of what I do for a living. :)

I like the 2nd one better. I built mine as a mix of “scratch” and a template through weebly.com. I used the idea of the pages from the wedding websites, but weebly just allowed more versatility (for example the RSVP could read 4 options instead of 2). In case you want to check the template, its benandcathy2012.weebly.com

I like the 1st one. and this is our wedding website lol. My girlfriend had one for hers- I don’t remember where but I found it kind of useless. I already knew everything about her and him plus we all have facebook so I knew a complete second by second update on her wedding plans. I also didn’t have the patience to click here, click there, click click click around.

Hmmmm I like them both! Maybe the first one? But honestly, they are both super cute.

We went with mywedding.com and used one of their templates. No complaints yet! :)

I think they are both great, but I think my eye leans towards the first. Mu FI built our wedding website. If he wasn’t so tech savvy I probably would have used weddingwire’s as well

I wound up making a website on blogger. Or at least I started a website there, because all that it really is now is a picture and the words, “Coming Soon.” Definitely something that needs to be added to soon!
