Mrs. Castle's Picture
Mrs. Castle, NYC/Southern California Age and Occupation: 26, Actress/Babysitter Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Actor/Writer/Graphic Designer Engagement Date: January 1, 2011 Wedding Date: April 2012 Venue: Padua Hills Theater About Me: I am a Southern California girl living in the Big Apple. I moved here to put my degree in Musical Theater to work! My survival job is caregiver to an adorable 2 1/2 year old. When I'm not working, auditioning or rehearsing, I am hanging out at home with my FI and our two beloved cats. I love to read, sing, dance, hang with friends, and spend quality time with Mr. Castle watching our favorite TV shows (LOST, Big Bang Theory, and Mythbusters...to name a few). Mr Castle and I met while performing in college, so it is only fitting that our wedding take place at an old theater. We are planning a vintage, theater-inspired wedding with some DIY projects and plenty of personal touches thrown in. I love living in the city but I am excited to marry my man in the state where we fell in love.
About Mrs. Castle

I always envisioned my bridal party looking something like this:

I LOVE all the orange. These dresses are the exact style I am looking for. Short, fun, cute! Unfortunately the top two pictures are J.Crew dresses and they don’t carry them in orange anymore! Grrrr, they would have been perfect! But there are other dresses out there…like:

My favorite of these dresses is the Alfred Angelo. I love the cut, and the shade of orange is my favorite. We’ll see what the Castle bridesmaids think!

Did you have a hard time finding your bridesmaids’ dresses? Did you opt for long or short?

Dresses for the Bridesmaids was harder than for myself. I opted for short but with a formal look. So they are Navy Satin with Black Organza. They are all custom dresses. The arrived last week and I am waiting for the first of Five to go in for the first fitting. I saw pictures of them, I love them all except for one thing - but I will let the girls decide if we are making a fuss about it. They are the ones wearing them.

I love orange too! Maybe you should check out Amanda Archer. She’s an independent designer and sells on etsy and has a great orange color.
I think we are getting our bm dresses there.
Here’s a link to her blog with a real wedding with orange BM dresses: http://independentdesigner.blogspot.com/2011/12/this-cheerful-wedding-mixed-with-orange.html

Oh and - I like the Alfred Angelo one also.
Years back when I was single and all my friends were getting married I wanted Green dresses with an orange sash and flowerette off to the side. I am really excited to see how your wedding looks. Love the colors.

I love that Alfred Angelo one too!

Bridesmaids dress shopping wasn’t as complicated as I thought it might be, thankfully. My girls are wearing short dresses in persimmon from David’s Bridal. I also wanted short, fun and orange dresses for them, but the persimmon is a bit more of a burnt orange than what you have here. They were all able to find dresses they like, with different cuts/necklines to accommodate different body types.

Good luck on your search! It was a little tricky finding pretty, orange dresses, but keep at it! Liz Fields has some too if you’re still looking.

I love the Alfred Angelo. Very cute.

Bridesmaid dress shopping was probably the easiest part of the wedding planning. Unfortunately, I don’t live near any of my bridesmaids so I told them to go to David’s Bridal and pick four dresses they liked. I picked the one that was on everyones list. It happened to be everyones first or second choice. I’m lucky to have amazing bridesmaids that are very supportive.

That’s a a shame J.Crew doesn’t offer orange anymore because those dresses are great. My bridesmaid dresses are orange too. It was kind of hard to find a shade of orange I liked. David’s Bridal tangerine was to bright for me (the picture on the website looks great but I thought the color in person looked brighter than that), and a lot of places don’t have orange. Finally, I just went to a local bridal salon and they are making them. Good luck on your dress search!

I went short for my hot July wedding, and yes, lots of trouble deciding. I can’t count the hours I spent going back and forth… matching, not matching, some matching, fabrics… ugh, glad it’s over!

I ordered my BM dresses from Amanda Archer. I love her dresses but since she makes them each by hand it can take 3-5 months. I’m so glad I was able to get my order in so they are ready before my June 30th wedding.

I love that orange color!
I went with a shorter dress, too for my July wedding.

My BMs are wearing the David’s Bridal dress (in a different color).

If I can throw in my (biased, obviously lol) 2 cents here about that dress: it is light, it is flowy, and it looks good on all the girls in my party. They’re all pretty small (largest is an 8 I think) but it looks good.

Good luck!!

@MySunshine: How sweet of you to think of me. I think I totally know what dress you are talking about too! And when I saw it I thought it would have made a good bridesmaid dress. I actually have picked their dresses but that’s coming up in a later post! I have seen sooo much orange out there for spring this year. It had been the best year for orange!

I was torn between maroon and orange. I picked maroon because my maids are more inclined to that again. Aria Dress has several orange options, and they have a fantastic try-on-at-home program.

My wedding colors are orange and silver. I had a hard time finding bridesmaid dresses. First they looked at me funny when they realized they may have to sport a orange dress for my wedding day. I assured them that my main color is silver and the orange is an ascent. I did look into orange dresses and was really unhappy with the selection. The Alfred Angelo dress is pretty but I advise you to look at the material and color in person. If I remember correctly the shade of orange looks a little different than in person.
I did find some pretty orange dresses through Impression Bridal. Not sure if any stores in your area carries this brand but you should look into it. Good luck!

I have worn an Alfred Angelo orange bridesmaid dress in chiffon and I love it! I even wore it for a voice recital I did a year later. They have the best shade of burnt orange that is so flattering. I highly recommend going into the store to confirm the dolor though! Love the color pop!

You’ve made me an orange convert! These are some gorgeous dresses - and the inspiration pics show that orange can be flattering, despite some people’s preconceptions…
