Just a few more weeks! Not until our wedding… there are still a few more months until that—but there are only a few more weeks until our engagement pictures! And I am very excited.
Some of you may be thinking that it is a little late to be taking engagement pictures. After all, we are rapidly approaching it being an entire year from the day that Mr. Dalmatian got down on one knee and gave me the most stunning ring I have ever seen. But our photographer had twin babies very soon after we booked her last fall (and I now stalk her on Facebook to admire the freakishly adorable pics she posts!) and we pushed the date back as far as possible because we want it to be as warm as possible for our outdoor shoot (speaking of babies, Mr. D and I are both total wimps when it comes to dealing with cold weather).
First, let me give you an idea of the site of the shoot. Our wedding venue, Cedarwood, has a ton of beautiful property and we are going to take advantage of this country oasis that is only a quick drive from the city!
Behind the historic home and barn where our wedding will take place, there is a big stretch of rolling hills along with a stunning meadow and an adorable little lake with an even more adorable little dock. Heck, they even have vintage furniture nestled in the rustic woods!
One nice thing about already being most of the way through our engagement before it is captured on camera is that I have had plenty of time for some crafting and shopping for the perfect props. I thrive on driving myself crazy with lots of projects, so I decided that along with this gorgeous backdrop we needed some charming props. First up: a picnic blanket.
After approximately four hours picking out fabric in Jo-Ann and some serious quality time with my sewing machine, here is what I ended up with:
And what is a picnic blanket without a picnic basket? Check out this find from one of my many afternoons spent antique hunting:
Next up: a patchwork pillow. In case you could not guess from project #1—I am a big fan of quilting. You may recall from my post about groomsmen’s ties that I am also a big fan of the Liberty of London fabrics. So, for project #2 I bought a collection of small squares off of Etsy (for a much more affordable price than buying full yardage) and used these to create a patchwork pillow. Don’t you think it will add a nice punch to that yellow metal loveseat?
We’ve got a lovely setting and we’ve got some props. Now if we can add a few more degrees to the temperature we will be ready to go!
When did you take engagement photos?
Did you use any props during your e-pics?
