Mrs. Castle, NYC/Southern California Age and Occupation: 26, Actress/Babysitter Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Actor/Writer/Graphic Designer Engagement Date: January 1, 2011 Wedding Date: April 2012 Venue: Padua Hills Theater About Me: I am a Southern California girl living in the Big Apple. I moved here to put my degree in Musical Theater to work! My survival job is caregiver to an adorable 2 1/2 year old. When I'm not working, auditioning or rehearsing, I am hanging out at home with my FI and our two beloved cats. I love to read, sing, dance, hang with friends, and spend quality time with Mr. Castle watching our favorite TV shows (LOST, Big Bang Theory, and Mythbusters...to name a few). Mr Castle and I met while performing in college, so it is only fitting that our wedding take place at an old theater. We are planning a vintage, theater-inspired wedding with some DIY projects and plenty of personal touches thrown in. I love living in the city but I am excited to marry my man in the state where we fell in love.
About Mrs. Castle

On a gloomy rainy day in NYC, three of my bridesmaids and I headed out with our umbrellas and rain boots to try on some dresses! We headed over to the famous Macy’s in NYC, then headed up to the eighth floor and into their bridal salon. We specifically wanted to look at dresses from the Eden Bridesmaids line and the Dessy collection.

I wasn’t allowed to take pictures…but our consultant liked us and let me take pictures of my final favorites. The girls were full of energy and we had a lot of fun! They tried on A LOT of dresses. They would each make a case for why they did or didn’t like a dress. Or they would all veto it before they even left the dressing room! They also all kept hiking up the dresses and saying things like, “I would like it better if it were a little shorter.” I started calling them my floozy bridesmaids, joking of course.

If they liked a dress I would have them switch so every girl could try it on and give their opinion. They looked fabulous in almost everything, but they chose their top two favorites.

We were thinking we could keep the top the same color and make the skirt orange. This dress then became known as the “creamsicle” dress. Which I’m not sure is a good thing…?

This next dress from Alfred Sung ended up being their #1 favorite.

I like this dress a lot, and I know it would look great on all my girls. The only thing I don’t love is the color of the dress. The fabric is kind of iridescent and shiny. It is definitely orange, but has sort of yellow and green undertones. It almost looked pink to me at times. But the girls liked this color a lot better than the bright orange offered by Eden. I just wasn’t sure that it was “the one.”

Personal Photo / The girls doing their “model poses.” The pink dress is the their fave, but it would come in the orange color that my first pretty lady has on.

We really had a blast, and during the appointment the consultant said to me, “You girls are so nice. We get some crazy bridesmaids in here, but your girls are a great bunch.” I thought that was very sweet of her to say. And it’s true, my girls are so great! They gave me their honest opinions but would add, “I’ll wear whatever you want. It’s totally up to you!” They made it really easy and I’m very thankful to have such great friends!

How has the search for bridesmaids’ dresses gone for you? Did you ask for your ladies’ opinions, or did you just tell them what you wanted?

I also wanted orange and didn’t think that the all orange thing would look good on my girls so I went for this http://classifieds.weddingbee.com/topic/2-short-strapless-floral-flat-taffeta-dress-size-16 which was a little easier on the eyes and the girls really liked them.

Your girls do seem awesome. Love the one that looks like a skirt and blouse — so chic!
PS — @fortunecookie: Love that floral!

I love the boots, your girls look like a ton of fun :) I really like the Alfred Sung dress, and in the pictures you can see the yellow/green tint, but I completely understand wanting to find the perfect color and fabric.

I am doing orange dresses also and I agree it’s hard to find a nice shade. Check out the “fiesta” color for Alfred Sung, it’s alot lighter than that color and then they could keep the same dress. In this photo, “fiesta” is on the far left - the other color is the same orange I think your girls had on.

I ended up settling on a Donna Morgan dress with the color “peach” and it’s a little on the pink side of orange but it will work for us.

I made the mistake of asking what they thought- and maybe the lady at the store you were at was thinking of my two bridesmaids/teenage sisters who literally screamed they would rather die than wear this one dress (I honestly wasn’t picking it, I asked one to try it on just to see how it looked) and then they proceeded to drop f-bombs all over the place. Yup. Needless to say their inclusion and opinion has been officially ousted from the process. I picked a dress without them (but with my MOH because she’s not crazy) and just told them to order it. Whew!
