About Mrs. Turkey

NAILED IT!

February 24th, 2012 @ 8:45 am by Mrs. Turkey

Excuse the corny title…I can’t help myself.

I am a big fan of having my nails done. We’re not talking full-out, expensive manicures every week, but it is a guilty pleasure.

As soon as Mr. Turkey “put a ring on it,” the need to have pretty digits seemed even more important (this goes along with the obsessive need to clean my diamond).

I would really like to be able to justify buying this

So, I found a little “trick” that wouldn’t break the bank—polish change. Much cheaper than a usual manicure, it makes me feel better when I go a little more often (than I probably should).

Anyhow, I’m really struggling with how to do my nails for the wedding. As you can see from my hand photos above, I am a huge fan of the dark(er) nail polish colors.

My 2 favorite colors (think they look different in “real life”, though)

But with a May wedding, I’m not sure a darker color would be “bridal” enough.

Would you judge a spring bride if she rocked dark nails?

It seems like french or a light pink is more fitting. My problem with French is that, well, after a couple days, it looks like this.

This pinky chip was after 2 days (2!!!)

Pink polish was OPI Rosy Future

So, I decided a couple weeks ago to test out Shellac…french style. I’ve had a few Shellac manicures this fall / winter, but they were all in (shocker) dark colors. The color really does stay for weeks without chipping, which made it feel like a great option to make it through the wedding and honeymoon.

The only issue is that you do start to see some nail growth near the end. I was thinking, if they could do a french-style Shellac, even with some growth, it wouldn’t be as obvious (because of the lighter color).

Pink coat is Negligee

Well, after 2 weeks, I’m still rocking a French manicure…sans chipping! Makes this style a lot more tempting. But there’s still my love for dark nails…these are real problems before us.

So, Hive, what nail color are you wearing for the wedding? Will you revoke my bride card if I wear dark polish?

I’m going for a natural pink. I think you should do what you want and if you like dark nail polish, then rock it!

So funny- I was just talking about this with a friend. The good thing about where I live in NYC is that a regular manicure is only 6 bucks. So, I’ve been super cheap to try out shellac, but I’m definitely going for it a few days before the wedding.

I love Opi Polish! I’m like you too, I gravitate to the darker colors. Recently I tried one of their pale pinks In the Spotlight Pink and loved it. I would recommend it!

Such a great post! Like you, I prefer darker colors and am questioning if it would look silly for a May wedding. I’ve watched SO many tutorials on nails and color that it makes it that much harder. lol

Good luck to you!

I love dark polishes! GO FOR IT!!

For cleaning your diamond if you make a paste with baking soda and water it cleans you ring freaking fantastically.

I wore maroon nail polish to my wedding - I don’t like how light colors look on and have always gravitated toward dark colors so there was no exception for my wedding. I love how it looked in pictures!

I love Shellac! And since ive been doing the same exact thing…clean ring…paint nails…clean ring…paint nails. I decided to invest in Shellac at home. Its about $100 to start up but worth it. So for the wedding I’m going with a pearl color manicure.

I did a French shellac for the big day, and it was so nice to have that traditional bridal look without all the fear of a chip!

Just a warning to those who are wanting to try shellac for the big day but have never done it before: I did this, and shellac does not work on my nails. I am the 1% it doesn’t work on. My nails hold regular polish better than shellac and regular polish lasts longer! Not the best thing to find out the day before you are leaving for your wedding… so, just try shellac ahead of time to make sure it works for you!

Turkey - your nails look gorgeous in all the colors! Pick whichever you feel is the most “you.” :)

I’m thinking of wearing a natural pink tone. I like the dark nails, but in may you may want to opt for a lighter shade. what are yourwedding colors?

I think if you always go for a dark color, your wedding is no time to go for something different. I think you should look like yourself in your pictures, just be yourself. Don’t go for a light color if you feel you will regret it.

It looks like dark nails are your thing, so I would go for it! I think choosing one of your wedding colors would be a great compromise if you’re worried about them not looking ’springy’ enough.

I am with everyone that you should go with what you love.

My favorite polish color is red (OPI’s I’m Not Really a Waitress), so I am going with that for the wedding. Really, I think the contrast is fun.

I’m wearing dark nails for my June wedding. I don’t like pink polish or French manicures.

After all my planning….I’ve not even thought about my nails! OH MAN! At least I have a few weeks to figure it out. I think you should wear what is true to you. On the plus side, your hands look lovely with dark polish!

I have that jewelry cleaner and it’s amazing! It’s so worth the $35 you can get it for on Amazon, and I use it for all my jewelry, not just my engagement ring. On another note, I’m glad you have pictures and reviews on the french manicure shellac. I was considering doing it for my wedding, and now I know it’s the right route to go. Thanks!

Go with what you like… I don’t see a reason in changing your nail color look just for the sake of being “bridal”. Besides, You Don’t Know Jacques” is pretty much my favorite OPI color ever! : )

Psh, “bridal” and “traditional” are over-rated. If you did a bold color you would get mondo cool-points in my book!

That being said, I think I am going for a light, petal pink….

….. WITH DISCO GLITTER ON TOP! Yeah, not just sparkles, I’m talking big ol’ confetti!!! And my toes will be freakin’ magenta or coral or something baller. Because I want to be a baller bride, I guess?
