After taking over the Kinzie Street Bridge, we were on to one of Chicago’s most iconic streets: Michigan Avenue! For those of you who aren’t local, the northern strip of the street is known as the Magnificent Mile, BS it is a shopping haven with everything from the American Girl Store to Top Shop and enough tourists to fill Soldier Field. When I first visited Chicago five years ago, we didn’t stray far from this stretch of the city (well, other than to see my beloved Joe Mauer and Joe Nathan kick some serious White Sox butt!!), and we felt pretty satisfied with the trip. The other thing that I love about Michigan Ave is the personality that it can’t help but have—the street performers on every block who showcase talents like bucket drumming (OK, that particular talent is annoying) and jazz guitar; the architecture of the Wrigley Building and the former Medinah Men’s Club (now the Intercontinental Hotel); the Chicago river running at the end of the Mag Mile…eek! This totally just turned into a travel ad for Chicago…
Getting back to my point, though, it’s a great area with tons going on and I wanted our photo safari to hit up this spot!
BM Alice and I coerced the rest of the ladies into rocking their TOMS.
I love this. I don’t remember where we are supposed to be looking, but I can tell that we’re having fun together.
Oh, did I forget to mention that there is a twenty five foot tall Marilyn Monroe art installation? Jordan legit took this photo while lying on her back in the middle of the sidewalk—what a trooper!
We wandered up the riverfront, crouched with Marilyn, and what were the boys doing? Jumping around!
I love the faces the groomsmen are making. So classic.
I love the view up Michigan Ave in the background!
Now for a serious one…
You’re right, BM Blair…all these pictures of us are boring. Let’s mix it up, shall we?
I mentioned that we had to wait our turn at Kinzie Street to take photos…but Michigan Ave was like a wedding-photo free-for-all! There were (not kidding) 10 wedding parties there taking photos when we were, and you’d be waiting for a spot in front of Marilyn or along the waterfront and some ’Zilla would come stomping on in and yank your spot! Fortunately, we weren’t on much of a schedule and were all having a good time, so we let a bunch of those brides who were stressed (and mean and rude…but, you know, it happens) c’mon in and take their photos first. But then someone (I claim me, Baconator claims him, the wedding party all claim it was our photographer) had the brilliant idea to ask one of these other 9.10.11 weddings to take a photo or two with us.
So I now present you some of my most favorite photos from the entire day! (Other bride, if you’re out there, PM me—I wish I got your contact info on the day of the wedding!!)
We couldn’t have coordinated these colors better if we tried, and the Tin Man asked to be in the photo! A true Chicago moment!
OMG, double the kissing!!?
Did you run into any other wedding parties on your wedding day? Do you have any unusual photo ops planned?
