Mrs. Castle's Picture
Mrs. Castle, NYC/Southern California Age and Occupation: 26, Actress/Babysitter Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Actor/Writer/Graphic Designer Engagement Date: January 1, 2011 Wedding Date: April 2012 Venue: Padua Hills Theater About Me: I am a Southern California girl living in the Big Apple. I moved here to put my degree in Musical Theater to work! My survival job is caregiver to an adorable 2 1/2 year old. When I'm not working, auditioning or rehearsing, I am hanging out at home with my FI and our two beloved cats. I love to read, sing, dance, hang with friends, and spend quality time with Mr. Castle watching our favorite TV shows (LOST, Big Bang Theory, and Mythbusters...to name a few). Mr Castle and I met while performing in college, so it is only fitting that our wedding take place at an old theater. We are planning a vintage, theater-inspired wedding with some DIY projects and plenty of personal touches thrown in. I love living in the city but I am excited to marry my man in the state where we fell in love.
About Mrs. Castle

During the same trip out to California that I met with florists, I also went to look at more dresses with my MOH. It was one of my favorite days on my trip. We have known each other since we were in fourth grade, and were attached at the hip from sixth grade summer on. Our lives and goals have made it difficult to see each other as often as we would like, so days like this are always thrilling. :-)

So MOH N and I went out in search of the perfect orange dress. We started at Alfred Angelo to look at some of my favorite possible orange dresses.

The first dress is the color I would want. She looked amazing in this dress, and we both agreed it would look great on all the girls.

This second dress was the one I fell in love with early on in my planning. It is super cute, but MOH N was saying it was a little long for her taste. Side note: she’s 5 foot even, so everything is a little long on her. I agreed, but the saleswomen showed us how easy it would be to alter by lifting it at the waist so as to not ruin the details at the bottom.

The last Alfred Angelo dress she tried on was a pleasant surprise. I didn’t think I would like it as much as I did. It is a little different in feel and style than the first two. It’s more classy and elegant in my opinion. I wonder how it would look in orange, though…

Next we tried out David’s Bridal. The appeal of their dresses is that every girl could pick what style they wanted but all in the same orange color.

This one was cute, but way too big on her.

This one was N’s favorite. It was also way too big. I tied the ribbon around it to define her waist a little more.

This one was nice as well. It would be really easy to hem, and it has pockets!

Here’s pictures of the orange color the dresses would come in. I do really like this color. It’s very bright and fun.

The last place we went was a little overwhelming. I was on the hunt for the dress my other bridesmaids had tried on in New York, and this store was listed as carrying it. But when we got there a) no one helped us, and b) it was a salon that took all the tags out of the dresses so you wouldn’t know who the designer was. Ugh! So we had to dig through the dresses. Eventually (thankfully) we found the needle in the haystack. Well, almost…

This isn’t the exact dress that the girls in New York tried on, but it is similar. The only difference is the one N has on above has a pleated skirt and the one the other ladies tried on did not.

It’s the same top but different bottom. I think I like the non-pleated skirt better.

Whew, we had a busy day. So at the end of it all did we have a clear winner? The answer is a resounding no… I just wasn’t sure! There were pros and cons to them all. This is where my indecisiveness kicked in. Which to pick? Which would look best? Which will the girls like?

The final decision coming up! Which dress do you like? Which would you want to wear?

All photos are personal unless otherwise noted.

I am a big fan of the sweetheart neckline (which really looks great on your MOH) so my options would be the third or last. The one with pockets is nice as well as is the second one (which is nearing a sweetheart neckline). Best of luck!

They’re all lovely! I think my favorite is the DB with the pockets.

My vote is for the 1st one. I love the halter top which is nice and is flattering for multiple figures. (Plus your MOH looks really comfortable in it.) I’m excited to see which one you go with. The pop of orange is a delight!

I personally love the second one if it was in orange and slightly shorter, as you said. So cute and flattering, yet simple, plus easy to wear again. Good luck choosing!

I would say do Davids Bridal just because everybody can wear different dresses that suit them better and fit them better and it also makes your wedding not so cookie cutter!

I have seen the DB one in a friend’s wedding photos in orange and it looks amazing. I coudn’t believe it was from DB! On another note, I was also BM dress shopping this weekend and also found that they were all just a little bit too long, which made some of them unflattering. What’s with that?

My ladies are wearing the David’s Bridal one. Everyone really likes it, and it looks adorable in orange! (Plus, its only $99…)

I actually wore the orange david’s bridal dress with the pockets. The exact style and color. I liked it, but since it is cotton it wrinkles incredibly easy. just something to keep in mind!

I would go the DB route but avoid the cotton ones bc they wrinkle. Also, WHY would a salon take out tags to hide designers? I don’t understand……so you don’t compare prices at other locations? Lack of transparency such a turn off!

Tearing out designer tags is illegal, unless the bridal salon replaces them with their own. If they do so, they must list all the required information on that tag, required by federal and state laws and the rules of the federal trade commission. Bridal salons do it to prevent you from price shopping or even from knowing if its real or fake. If you were to ask for the information, and they refused to provide it, you could definitely file a complaint with the FTC.

I will be living vicariously through your orange! It’s my favorite color. I love the sweetheart neckline. I would stay away from the pleats, they add too much bulk, but really all your options are great.

Also, I love the one with pockets! We had those dresses but floor length for a wedding I was in last summer. Loved it! That orange is amazing by the way!

Hello, I vote for the DB with pockets as well. I’m in a similar boat as you and 2 of the DB you have pictured (in tangerine) are my top choices. Do you know what size dresses she was trying on in these pictures?

@jamiesrichmond: I think she was trying on a size 2. She’s really tiny, 5′ and she usually wears a 0
