After two hours of traipsing around Chicago taking photos here and there, we finally turned the trolley onto the venue’s parking lot with the intent to take a couple more photos around the space. We thought about sneaking into the alley for a few more “Chicago Grit” shots and we thought about climbing along fire escapes to prove that we were über urban, but in the end, our faces were sore from smiling, we were starting to sweat, and BM Maura was turning green from the stomach bug she picked up on Friday morning (she was a total trooper all day!) I deposited my giant white balloon at the guest entrance and snuck in the side door with the wedding party into the giant vintage car garage on the main floor of the space. (The owner of the venue is a huge classic car collector so he uses the main floor as an event space/garage/showroom.)
Also waiting for us in the garage were our parents and extended family members who took the very first trolley over from the hotel. Since my mom wasn’t able to be part of dressing me as a bride, we got to have a mother-daughter first look of sorts. I’ll never forget the look of pride and emotion and happiness on her face when she turned around an saw me.
After a gratuitous twirl and an ooh and ahh or two, she noticed the thing I knew she would and tsked at me. “Miss Bacon! The bottom of dress is filthy! Don’t just let it drag on the ground like that!” What can I say, my mom has an eye for detail and I had dragged my train across the gross streets of Chicago… and I promise it wasn’t bad. Just not pristine…
Once we were in the showroom and all the boys were enamored with the old cars, I remembered that the venue coordinator mentioned we could take photos in the cars! So I ran upstairs to double confirm that we were good to snap a few photos in these amazing automobiles. She gave us the green light and the next thing I knew, we were sitting in one if the red convertibles from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off! I don’t think I’ve ever been so careful with a car in my life…
After our stint as movie stars, we headed upstairs to connect with our fabulous DOC, Laura, who was getting everyone settled with their last minute tasks, and gently reminded me that I needed to set up the ceremony music. I corralled the wedding party to the third floor for some ceremony-style shots while I tinkered with electronics, but for some reason I only ended up with the flower girl, her mom, the ring bearer and his mom. So, group photo time turned into adorable photo time. Need proof?

| He spent the weekend telling everyone that he had a Brazilian girlfriend. He’s three.
Maybe it’s a good thing she only speaks Portuguese? |
Once that was all taken are of, we waited for trolleys to arrive and reapplied lipstick and made sure my veil was on right and waited some more. Then all of a sudden I had to give a final hug to my mom before the ceremony and it was time to huddle up in the stairwell for our big entrance.
