It’s a funny feeling, when you marry the love of your life. All the adrenaline just rushes out of you in one huge batch. Happiness is the only feeling that’s ever existed in the world. Nothing is wrong. Nothing could ever be wrong. You can’t imagine things any other way except the way you feel at this second.
At least, that’s how it was for me.
After we made our ceremony exit and congregated briefly on the deck, we moved to the front of the venue where we gathered in a wooded area for portrait time. Our awesome catering headwaiter took our drink orders and brought us plenty of the incredibly delicious appetizers we had chosen. Thank goodness for caterers who actually make it their job to ensure the bride and groom eat. Eat, we did. (Those caramelized onion and beef stroganoff tartlet things? To die.)
I gotta say, this is one of my favorite pictures from the whole event:

My dad’s not one for crying and the whatnot, but sheer joy? He’s got that down pat. This was right before he whispered, “Your mother would be very proud of you.”

FIL Ladyfingers, on the other hand? Very good at emotion. It’s the whole “Italian guy” thing. He came off the deck dabbing at his eyes with a handkerchief. I think he cried more than MIL Ladyfingers. More than MOH Ginger, even—which is quite an impressive feat.
Now, for lots of pictures of people you don’t know. You’re welcome.

Mr. and MIL Ladyfingers

Me and pops

The new united family: from left, dad’s fiancee, FIL Ladyfingers, me, Mr. Ladyfingers, MIL Ladyfingers, my dad. For Christmas, I had this picture framed for dad and FI.

These guys are the best. No, really. College buddies and former roommates, Mr. Ladyfingers considers these dudes to be his second family. I first met them when Mr. and I had been together about 6 months. The guy on the right was getting married, and we went up to Maine for the festivities. I was sooooooo nervous. I mean, you just start dating a guy, and you’re told you’re about to meet his second family… gosh.
But they were so amazing. Their wives are awesome, too. Seriously the nicest, most generous, most loyal group of people you’ll ever meet.
Plus, they’re awfully handsome, don’t you think?

I loved the shoes the girls chose—they’re all so representative of each one’s style.

Once the portraits were complete, the bridal party was excused, and it was just us, man and wife.
