Mrs. Doily's Picture
Mrs. Doily, Cedar Rapids, Iowa Age and Occupation: 25, Autism Paraeducator/ Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, IT Hosting Support Engagement Date: August 27th, 2010 Wedding Date: March 2012 Venue: Father’s Vineyard Church/ A Touch of Class Banquet Center About Me: I’m an Iowan girl with a deep love of Harry Potter, classic movies, cardigans, and Post-Its. My type-A Virgo tendencies often cause me to drive my laid-back college sweetheart fiance batty with lists and PowerPoint presentations. I love to be crafty and do things myself, which explains why my two crazy kittens often will prance around the house covered in glitter and ribbons. When I am not bogged down with work, school, or wedding planning, I like to travel to visit my expansive family and have wild adventures with my best friends. After a rollercoaster ride of a love story, I’m ready to take that final plunge, marry the love of my life, and become a Mrs.!
About Mrs. Doily

This is also the blog post known better as the RSVP breakdown. Now that our deadline has passed (about four weeks ago) and we have finally tracked down those last couple of pesky missing RSVPs, I’m finally ready to break it down for you. And can I also say, how happy I am to finally have final numbers in these little hands of mine? Because I am. Not that I really had to track anyone down. Mr. D and I made the agreement before the invites went out that we were in charge of our side of the guest list. It was meant to be a way to divide up the work, and wouldn’t you know it, that out of the 15 invites we had to track down, 12 were from his side? Lucky me! Though Mr. D had his mom do most of his dirty work, sneaky little man!! But the job is down and here is the break down:

Guess Who’s Coming to the Wedding… : wedding cedar rapids guest list Graph1 graph1

This graph is based on the total number of people invited, not the number of invites we sent. I think it gives a better picture because, as you can see, we had a crap ton of out-of-towners. With some of these invites, only some of the people will be attending. For example, my Auntie C will be coming, but she has to leave her husband and my little cousin at home due to some conflicts with my cousin’s finals schedule for school. I still can’t believe that our guest list is 60% of out-of-towners and that 90% of them are coming. I was really expecting less, but I am so pleased since the majority of our family will be in attendance. I also find it funny that more people from town are saying no than the ones that have to travel a far distance. Our overall breakdown was this:

Guess Who’s Coming to the Wedding… : wedding cedar rapids guest list Graph2 graph2

Roughly 25% of our guests invited will not be in attendance, which is about what most stats tell you. Now I just have to get these numbers into the caterer and the linen company and we are set! With the wedding three weeks away, the final things are starting to fall into place and I am so excited! Next up for these numbers is the dreaded seating chart complete with post-its and some phone conferences with our moms and grandmas to help us place everyone. Hopefully it won’t be quite as bad as I am expecting!

What were your RSVPs like? Did you have to track a lot of people down? Were you expecting those numbers? For those of you still waiting to send out invites or for RSVPs, what do you think your numbers are going to be like?

@futureMFG: It’s mostly my dad’s side of the family that is coming from really far away, so it makes me so grateful because it’s like having him there.

If you create a profile on weddingwire.com they have a tool that you can use to play with your reception layout and seating assignments. It’s very handy!

I love reading RSVP breakdowns. Almost all of our guests are OOT… My mom is betting that most of them won’t come, I’m betting they are. Can’t believe 90% of your OOT guests are attending!

Our RSVPs are finished. We had to track a few down, more than we expected. Then even with the track down (calling, texting and emailing) five did not respond. So we did something that is probably not good etiquette at all. A very nice note was sent via mail saying “we are so sorry you won’t be able to join us for our reception. As the deadline has passed and we have not heard from you, we have to count you as not attending.” I know that is terrible. In our defense I will say our event is a little different, as it is only a reception (we were marred in December out of state). Everyone knew in December (the save a dates went out) and our site is limited capacity, we have to rent everything. Not much is included. So exact numbers are necessary. This was expressed in the RSVP reminders. So think what you will. At this point the gloves are off and we are down to business. We are 21 days out and no time to mess around. The final floor plan has to be turned in at the end of the week. So that is our story. We ended up with exactly the number we were hoping for. Sad that none of our OOT are going to make it expect my parents.

I like the idea of splitting up the no-shows by side… except I think I’d end up freaking out and taking over regardless. :P

Ohh - oh - oh.. I can’t wait for RSVP’s to start coming in. Although sending out the Invites might be useful -
my fiance still hasn’t given me his complete guest list. I think I have most of them, I had to track them all down - Thank you Facebook! But he says he will get to it.
And if he doesn’t..? Not my fault. But I think it will be all on me to track of the RSVPs

Finished all my invites last night. Mailing today or tomorrow! We have a relatively large invite list (235) and are hoping for 175 to attend! We have a LOT of out of town invites….So we shall see where it all falls out. Thanks for posting this!

Not going to lie, your percentages are giving me some heart palpitations. If 90% of our out of town guests come we will be having a huge shindig ;)

Looks like it is going to be a blast! Love when family/friends get to know each other and have a bit of fun!
