The Longest Veil

March 9th, 2012 @ 11:14 am by Mrs. Coyote

So I kinda did things backwards here by showing you my hair flower without talking about any of my other wedding day accessories. I couldn’t help it! I was just super excited with how it came out and HAD to show it off right away!

What I should have told you is that I have a huge crush on wedding veils. More specifically, on cathedral length veils. How can I resist when I see photos like these:

Okay, so I’m kidding about that last one (what the heck?!), but seriously… I love long wedding veils!

My mother wore a cathedral length veil at her wedding too and told me that she loved it so much she refused to take it off — even for the reception! She just draped it over her arm and carried it around all night.

Now, I can’t see myself having that kind of patience so the hair flower is my back-up for when my veil starts to piss me off. And I’m sure at some point during the reception it’s going to piss me off. ;)

But for the formal photos and the ceremony I can’t imagine wearing anything other than a long, flowy veil.

I haven’t chosen one yet, but I’ve definitely been checking out Etsy to find the perfect headpiece. I thought about using my mom’s veil, but there is a lot of beautiful detailing on it that doesn’t quite jive with my heavily beaded dress. I need something light and simple. Something that won’t overwhelm my dress or (more importantly) me — oh, have I mentioned that I’m barely five feet tall? And so my hunt continues.

So let’s hear it. Are you wearing a veil for your wedding day? Maybe even a cathedral length one like I am?

YES!! I think the cathedral veil is very romantic. I knew I was going to have one even before i found my dress! I am having mine custom made because i liked the beading and “bling” on the elbow length one the ladies put on me at the bridal boutique.
Good luck finding your dream veil!
Congrats

My Mom wanted me to wear a cathedral length veil but I wasn’t into it. I just ordered mine from this Etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/veiledbeauty?ref=seller_info
The one I ordered is elbow length. I can’t wait to see it in person! And I can’t wait to see which one you choose!

I looooove veils of all kinds, but nothing beats a plain, simple, cathedral veil. My veil is not cathedral because I didn’t like how it looked on me, but I love them on everyone else. Can’t wait to see yours!

I am wearing a veil- I thought I would initially go with a cage veil headpiece- but ended up with a longer one. It just makes the difference between a girl in a pretty white dress and a bride. :)

I am wearing one too! I got it from Etsy. Here is the link to it: http://www.etsy.com/listing/64967480/108-inches-the-chelsea-veil-2-tier-with

Like you, I’ll probably have a hair flower for the reception. As much as I love my veil, I can’t see myself dancing all night long with it!

I wore a long veil and LOVED it! :) I did only wear it during the ceremony then for a few pictures. During the reception i took it off and had a large red flower put in!

I’m so excited to see what you pick!! I absolutely hated the feeling of a veil when I tried them on–every time the material brushed my back, I’d get goosebumps!! I do adore your inspiration though and DEFINITELY admire your mother for sticking with hers throughout the night! What a champ! I think you’ll look beautiful!

I forgot to even take my veil off… if it’s shorter I think you can easily forget about them.

I was lame (not lame… sentimental and level headed) to borrow my SILs veil… but I totally would have loved to buy a floor length veil had I needed to! It just didn’t work out to pick out a veil when I didn’t have my dress nearby for color matching and stuff…

I’ll be jealous to see your pictures! :)

Oh so pretty! I think I’m going to get something a bit shorter, but I’m going to be buying one without ever having tried a veil on so I haven’t decided yet.

I had a cathedral veil from my aunt, but I thought it took away from my dress, so I opted for a shorter length. They make for such great pictures though!

Absolutely!! (I am in love with veils. I didn’t know just how much I love veils, until I decided to wear one… now I can’t imagine not wearing a veil for our wedding.) I’m wearing a cathedral veil too.

Good luck with your search!

I’m kinda-required-but-not-really to wear the veil my grandmother bought antique to wear when she got married, then my mom wore it, then several other members of the family. I’m NOT in love with it… but hoping it’ll grow on me. Blurgh… it makes my tummy knot up to think about it! :(

Gah, that first pic is gorgeous. I had a cathedral length, drop veil with lace trim…and I’m smiling as I type this bc I loved that thing so much!

No veil here. I tried on several sizes and styles and I just didn’t like the look on me…made me feel very matronly. Plus my dress has an awesome neck line and keyhole back so I didn’t want anything to block that beautiful cut of the dress.

I am so on board with the long wedding veils how wonderful that they are coming back. Especially for an outdoor wedding with a soft breeze!
