Mrs. Bacon's Picture
Mrs. Bacon, Chicago Age and Occupation: 26, Digital Advertising Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, IT Client Services Engagement Date: June 17, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Ravenswood Billboard Factory About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl that can't seem to commit to staying in one place for too long and is constantly daydreaming about my next adventure. I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.
About Mrs. Bacon

While the wedding party, MIL Bacon and my dad hung out in the stairwell, guests settled into their seats and ring warming ceremony began.

Can you see his shoes? They are embroidered with “Brudder” since that’s what MIL Bacon calls him.

Once everyone was seated, Uncle M took his spot at the front of the room and introduced the ring warming ceremony:

To start tonight’s ceremony, the bride and groom have asked us all to participate in a ring warming ceremony. A Ring Warming embraces each individual’s thoughts and prayers for the Bride and Groom. As the rings are passed around to each of the guests, feel free to send your well wishes and good vibrations for the bride and groom into the rings so that they can celebrate your blessing each day.

We foolishly expected the ring warming ceremony to only take about 10-12 minutes, but for 100ish people, it took more like 15-17 minutes. I’d only prepped three songs (Today by Joshua Radin, Marry Me by Train and Wonderwall (cover) by Boyce Avenue) so when the music ended and looped back to the first song the stairwell was full of confusion – Do we go or do we stay? What the heck is going on out there?? OMG, we better get this show on the road or these water works are going to start before I get to the aisle! (Ok, so that last one was only going through my head.) Fortunately, our DOC, Laura, was on top of it and calmed us down while we waited for the rings to snake their way back to the front of the room.

Finally, it was time and Uncle M said those fateful words:

Thank you everybody, now if you could turn your attention to the back of the room, we’ll welcome the Wedding Party.

“OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG! We’re getting married!” That’s the look that the Baconator gave me as the sound of Van Halen’s When It’s Love wafted through the air and the door opened for him to take his last walk as a single man.

I love how obviously happy MIL Bacon is in this photo

Now imagine a slow fade out of Van Halen and the tasteful blend of this modern classic made famous by Justin Beiber. Next up—GM Trevor, a coworker of mine that hit it off with the Baconator right away, and BM Alice, one of my first friends at college who was my partner in crime through and through.

Then it was GM Alex, a college buddy of the Baconator, and BM Blair, my sorority sister who can keep me grounded and make me laugh in the same instant.

Then there was a last minute rearrangement.

As the Baconator and his mom reached the top of the stairs, BM Maura looked at me frantically and said she was going to be sick there was no way she’d make it to the aisle and ran for the safety of the bridal suite, so when it was her turn to walk the aisle, the MOH took the Best Man in one arm and the Baconator’s 17 year old brother in the other and was off.

Last, and certainly not least, were the flower girl and ring bearer…or balloon bearer.

Then the music changed to Songbird and there was no one left but my dad and me, taking a walk that I’d dreamed of since I was a little girl.

For you there’ll be no crying

For you the sun will be shining

’Cause I feel that when I’m with you

It’s all right I know it’s right

And the songbirds keep singing

Like they know the score

And I love you I love you I love you

Like never before

To you I would give the world

To you I’d never be cold

’Cause I feel that when I’m with you

It’s all right I know it’s right

And the songbirds keep singing

Like they know the score

And I love you I love you I love you

Like never before Like never before

Can you see my tears? They are just about to spill over…

I can still remember my heart beating like crazy as I stepped to the front of the room to meet the Baconator, and over six months later, I can feel those tears resurfacing as the emotion and excitement comes back to me.

Beautiful wedding! Songbird is one of my favorite songs, I sang it at my friends wedding a few years ago, not a dry eye in the house!

Congradulations on getting married <3

I’m so happy to hear about your pre-ceremony ring warming. We’re planning to do the same for our wedding in September (I love the sentiment, but didn’t want people to get distracted from the ceremony or for the ring passing to take too long). What did you use to send around your rings? Is that a padlock?

@Miss Coyote: Maura got a weird stomach bug and was throwing up all day. She kept a smile on her face the whole time, though. I am so amazed by her.
@Leanne: We passed the rings around on a heart-shaped lock that we’d be using later the in ceremony, but a basket or plate would work just as well.

Your ceremony sounds beautiful, and I have to say, I LOVE Songbird. I never thought of using that for my entrance but I’ll now have to think of it! I’ve been considering Here, There and Everywhere by the Beatles so far, but you’ve given me something new to think about :-)
