Mrs. Castle's Picture
Mrs. Castle, NYC/Southern California Age and Occupation: 26, Actress/Babysitter Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Actor/Writer/Graphic Designer Engagement Date: January 1, 2011 Wedding Date: April 2012 Venue: Padua Hills Theater About Me: I am a Southern California girl living in the Big Apple. I moved here to put my degree in Musical Theater to work! My survival job is caregiver to an adorable 2 1/2 year old. When I'm not working, auditioning or rehearsing, I am hanging out at home with my FI and our two beloved cats. I love to read, sing, dance, hang with friends, and spend quality time with Mr. Castle watching our favorite TV shows (LOST, Big Bang Theory, and Mythbusters...to name a few). Mr Castle and I met while performing in college, so it is only fitting that our wedding take place at an old theater. We are planning a vintage, theater-inspired wedding with some DIY projects and plenty of personal touches thrown in. I love living in the city but I am excited to marry my man in the state where we fell in love.

Something’s Missing…

April 6th, 2012 @ 2:26 pm by Mrs. Castle

I am happily planning on following the something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue tradition; but I have a little problem… I’m missing one of them…

Let me share the non-missing elements of this tradition first. My “something old,” is very special to me. I would say other than my engagement ring, it is my most important piece of jewelry. I’ve had since I was a little girl, thus making it “old.” Before my Great Grandmother passed away, she took diamonds out of her jewelry and made matching necklaces for all of her five great-granddaughters. They were presented to us in  lovely silver heart boxes. I’ve worn mine for many special events in my life: graduations, funerals, special performances, and I always knew I would wear it on my wedding day. I know it will make my grandmother, aunts, cousins, mother, father—basically everyone who will recognize it—so happy to see me wearing it.

I couldn’t imagine myself wearing any other necklace. My mother always tells me how much my great-grandmother loved me. I was very young when she passed away, and I am so happy to have a part of her with me on my wedding day.

My something new could be many different things; my dress, my veil, my ring, etc. But I’m choosing to make it something that I will be wearing for the first time on my wedding day that I will not have tried on prior. My wedding undies!

Mine are similar to these, but they say bride at the top :)

I’ve already shared my something blue wedding shoes, but I’ll share them again because I love them so…

By this point you know what I’m missing: my something borrowed.

(A good beach read if you haven’t read it yet)

I did have some ideas early on. I was going to borrow my MOH’s veil but I ended up buying a veil I fell in love with on Etsy. Then I was thinking I would borrow my mother’s diamond earrings, but Mr. Castle bought me some beautiful Tiffany pearl earrings for my birthday and I decided I must wear them for the wedding! At  this point, other wedding stresses took over and I forgot to find something to borrow…I’m sure I’ll come up with something when I’m in California around family and friends, but as of now, I have no ideas.

So I’m turning to you, hive, in the hopes that you can give me some ideas. What is your something borrowed?

My Great Grandmother did the SAME thing! She had a pair of diamond earrings and gave one to me, one to my cousin, we each had them made into necklaces with the tiny diamond within a heart. I’ve worn mine every single day since I was 4 (I never even take it off except to clean hair out of the clasp once a month and change the chain every few years as it weakens).

You should put a penny in your shoe for good luck…maybe you can borrow that penny from someone special.

My dad upgraded my mom to an eternity wedding band for their 30th wedding anniversary. She loaned me her original plain gold band to tie to my bouquet as I walked down the aisle. they have an incredible marriage, so I was touched to carry it.

Your necklace is so gorgeous and I love the sentimental value it has, too!
I borrowed a veil and hairpiece, both from other bees, they have such good taste :)

What about a clutch? That was my something borrowed. My aunt gave me one to use that all her daughters and daughters-in-law used. She surprised me with it the morning of our wedding and said I had to use it since she thinks of me as a daughter as well. It was so sweet and of course was one of many times that day that we all shed a tear or two :)

I’m going to be wearing my mother’s promise ring as my something borrowed, its a gorgeous sapphire, and its also 25 years old, so i guess it could be old too, but i dont want too many traditions in one piece. Ive always adored it, and when i asked, she was more than happy to lend it!

I started my wedding day saying that my diamond and sapphire heart earrings borrowed from my grandmother were going to be my something old, blue and borrowed (even though your something borrowed is supposed to be from someone happily married which my grandma was divorced twice) but then my mother in law surprised me with a little token with an angel on it. She wouldn’t tell me what it meant on that day but when I went to return it she told me how my sister in law carried it with her every time she had her chemo treatment and she beat her cancer and has been healthy for about 2 years now. She figured it brought her luck and health and that it would bring me and my husband the same :)

At the last minute I realized I didn’t have a purse. My maid of honor had a spare navy purse, so it served as my borrowed, and blue.

Love your “somethings”. I don’t have any ideas for you, but my “something borrowed” is the slip I’ll be wearing. Stealing it from my recently married aunt. :)

@Cara: Aww I love that! I’m not much of a jewelry person but as I’ve gotten older I have worn my necklace more. I do t want it sitting in a box forever!
@anelegantwedding: That would e fun for the day of, I can imagine asking, “who has a penny for my shoe!?”
@beachstone: That’s so special!
@Mrs. Pony: Aww that’s awesome! They do have good taste. :) I guess my bees are technically something borrowed as well right?
@cupkate: Aww how sweet! And a great idea, my Mom has a drawer of “fancy purses” maybe I’ll find something in there

Is there a family heirloom (brooch/pin, necklace, rosary, rings, earings, etc.) that you would like to attach to your bouquet wrap on the wedding day? That could be something borrowed! :) I love seeing personal attachments to bridal bouquets. Pinterest and google searches can bring up many options to look at.

I don’t have my borrowed thing either! My if-all-else-fails plan was to use the bees, too. ;) A bridesmaid offered me her veil but I want something two-tier, so that’s out… if you get any good ideas let me know! :D

Be careful wearing new underwear on your wedding day! Make sure you’ve worn something the same style and fabric (just without the “bride”) on it to make sure they’re comfortable. Who wants to feel like they need to pick a wedgie all day at her own wedding?!

Could you borrow another piece of jewelry? Or perhaps another bee will lend you a charm of hers :)
