About Mrs. Aardvark

A Perfect Pre-Wedding Day

April 12th, 2012 @ 5:51 am by Mrs. Aardvark

Bees,

I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve had a few days off work, or maybe I am in a bridal-bubble, but this week just keeps getting better and better. Last night bridesmaid sis and I had a sleep-over at Mama-Aardvark’s and worked on crafts and bonded. I took her to school this morning, ran errands, took a nap and made a few practice bouquets.

Yes, in a fit of insanity, I decided, since it was spring and all, the bridesmaids should have real flowers. I also came to this decision because I could not pick an alternative. There were just too many! Of course, I didn’t decide this until…ohhhhh, a week ago. Too late to find a florist. So I decided I would try to put some flowers together the week before the wedding. If I could do it in a timely manner, not get frustrated, and liked the out-come, I would make some bouquets the morning of the wedding. Like all DIY tasks, my secret to feeling good while working on them, and liking the finished product, is low expectations.

After a bit of fiddling around, I came up with this:

A Perfect Pre-Wedding Day : wedding beaver dam bridesmaids diy flowers Bridesm Bridesm

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised at how it all came together. I think they are a bit small yet so I will “bulk them up” a bit for Saturday. What do you think?

I do see how flowers could be cause for a lot of stress, especially if you like things uniform or neatly arranged. But for me, I think DIY will be the way to go! Good thing too otherwise the bridesmaids would really be in a pickle!

Are you DIYing flowers? Am I crazy for doing it? Please only answer that last question if the answer is no (just kidding…kinda).

I am totally DIYing my flowers! I did it out of necessity for my budget to remain intact. I did a trial run and was very happy with the result. If you have the time, patience and 1/4 craftiness, I think it can be done!

I don’t think you’re crazy. I happen to like the more informal, less serious look for bouquets. Everytime I go in the grocery store I see their flowers and think, “Gee, that’s so pretty I could just pick them up and walk down the aisle as-is.” (They would need ribbon of course.) :)

I’m DIYing all the centerpieces and little arrangements for the bistro tables in the reception space. I did hire a florist for the boquets and bouts, but she’s super reasonable and I just didn’t want to have to worry about that.
You’re not crazy – that looks cute!

I like it! It’s bright and not overly formal — and that big ruffly red one is my favourite!

I really, really like this bouquet! It has a very natural, perfectly undone look to it. Go for it, Miss A! They’re going to look fantastic. :)

I am DIYing all my flowers too. My FMIL looked at me like I was crazy and still does every time we talk about flowers. I am not stressed about it. I think it will be fun actually. Flowers are so beautiful on their own. Surely, I can’t screw them up to bad, lol.

My dad and a family friend are growing all the flowers for my wedding in August. Friday morning before the wedding, we’ll be putting bouquets together. I like how yours turned out!

You aren’t crazy (…or that would make me crazy, too!). I am going to the grocery store the day before the wedding to get flowers to make 4 bouquets, 8 centerpieces, and maybe 3 boutonnieres. This may require going to more than 1 grocery store…

I’m DIYing flowers! We’re only doing bouquets, so I figure it’s not that hard.

I don’t think you’re crazy at all! My FMIL does flowers for her church, so I have asked her to help with ours. The BMs and I will gather our bouquets the morning of, and I cannot wait to share in that experience with them.

We also found a Costco fairly close to our venue, which we will purchase the flowers from. Most Costco’s have florists and this florist even gave me her number and said I can choose my own flowers and she’ll make the square vase centerpieces all for the price of the Costco version, which was under $20 a piece.

DIY flowers seem to be the way to go!

Your bouquet is really cute. We were going to DIY everything, but then we met with a florist just for fun, and the florist only cost $250 more than our original budget. So, I’m getting far simpler arrangments, but I won’t have be so stressed.

But I’m sure you will do fine, good luck@@@!!
