There is an utter drought of boy children in our lives, so we’ve decided to skip having a ring bearer. But we’ve compensated for that with our flower girls—we have four. No, you did not just hallucinate—I will have one-two-three-FOUR little girls preceding me down the aisle. I know that sounds insane, but we love these little girls, and wanted to include them. So I pretty much took the attitude of the more the merrier when it came to flower girls… knock on wood for it not to be utter little-girl-mayhem!
Flower girl C is a longtime consulting client that has become so dear to us—it kills me how fast she is growing up! She joined me for one of the venue-hunt days, and her insights were hysterical… she knows my taste well, and is so precocious!
Flower girl T is another longtime client- her mom is one of my dearest friends, and they were such sports when we woke them with a 4 am call to share the news of our engagement! T’s reaction was awesome- ” YAY! Now I get to be a flower girl!!” We are definitely obsessed with each other.
Flower girl J is another client we have a special bond with! Adorably (and a little embarrassingly, to be honest), she has picked up some Archer baby-talk, so she sweetly sends us “tisses,” and is so excited to be a flower girl—we are just as thrilled to have her!
Flower girl S is my older brother’s daughter. She’s quite the seasoned flower girl, and we are so glad she will be tossing petals on our special day! She’s our only niece, and we love her something crazy!

I was feeling a little guilty that I had asked my bridesmaids without any special fanfare, so I decided to make up for it some with my flower girls. One of my cousins (mom to BM’s C and J) is crazy-awesome with paper crafts, and had offered her talents to me. I took her up on her generous offer, asking her to make me some sweet little cards to ask my flower girls with. I gave her total artistic license, and a few days later, a set of these precious cards showed up in our mailbox.
I filled the cards with a little poem I found somewhere (really, no idea where, I had scribbled it into the margins of my wedding notebook): “When I was just a little girl, about the size of you, I dreamed one day I’d fall in love and then get married, too. So now that I am all grown up, about to be a bride, I want you for a flower girl, to be right by my side.” I added a personal note to each darling, and popped them in the mail. A few days later, I was getting phone calls of giggles and squeals of “yes yes yessss!!” It was so exciting to have them be so thrilled to be asked, and I can’t wait for wedding weekend cuddles from these precious girls. I’ve even asked our photographers to make sure we block out a few minutes of formal pictures for some with our girls.
Does anyone else have several flower girls? Did you ask them any special way?
