About Mrs. Mink

Getting married and having our reception in the same location has allowed us to avoid talking about wedding transportation during much of our planning. We’ve had a few short conversations about the logistics of getting things and people to Pippin Hill, the vineyard where we’ll be getting married, but haven’t really talked about making our getaway at the end of the night.

As the day gets closer, there’s more day dreaming about how all these plans will turn out and we’ve done some talking about how we’ll leave the vineyard when the party is over. I’ve always been a fan of antique limousines and imagined myself riding in a classic Rolls Royce. I’m not sure a fifteen minute, one way trip would be worth a limo company’s time.

Another option is to rent a classic sports car.

Mr. Mink and I both love this idea, but we’re not too excited about driving it ourselves after our reception. The photos would be charming, though, don’t you think? When I shared the classic sports car idea with my Maid of Honor, she offered to drive the car for us and to take care of picking it up and returning it. I thought that was so generous, but most of the sports cars we saw had two seats.

My Day of Coordinator gave me a tip that the owner of the sports car rental business in our area had a four seater that he drove for another one of her couples. I emailed him right away, but he’s already busy on our wedding date. That would have been too perfect if it had worked out.

I decided to submit a quote request with one of the local limo companies that has a classic Rolls that I love (it’s navy blue!) and I’ll see what happens. I’m setting myself up for budget busting quote already. Maybe, just maybe, there’s a slight chance that having a Friday wedding will finally work in our favor and there won’t be a minimum? That’s probably wishful thinking.

What options did you consider for your getaway? How did you wind up making your exit after your wedding reception?

Our venue (a hotel) had a car service it would use, so for $50, they picked us up at the church to take us to the reception, and for $50 more they took us to our new hotel after the reception. So worth it!!

We used a pedicab! We got married in downtown Austin and spent the wedding night in a hotel downtown, and this worked perfectly! It was a lot of fun to go down pedestrian heavy streets and have everyone yelling their congrats to us.

I think we’re going to be cabbing it home (or finding a sober buddy!). Nothing too fancy, but at this point, I don’t even know where we’re sleeping!

We’ll be walking because the hotel is only a couple of blocks away from our reception venue.

You’ve probably already checked them out, but Albemarle Limousine is one company we looked at. Their charge for driving to Richmond was too crazy, but they are based out of Cville.
We’re using a trolley. We’ve hired it to do several loops between reception and hotel for our guests, but one of the loops will be just FI and I.

NOTE: probably not the classiest or safest way but when we got married earlier this year, our reception made its way to a local bar downtown… with no wallet, id, car keys, let along room key I flagged down a random car in the middle of the street and we hopped in and they gave us a ride! (none of our friends/party who joined us were fit to drive either or that would have been an option)

We’re using a cherry red 1963 Chevy Impala convertable for our getaway car. It’s going to be used as the arrival car for my girls and myself, too. My dad will be our driver for the evening. Thankfully, it’s been in the family for as long as I can remember so no rental fee. Yay! :D Afterwards, FI and I will take the car back to my parents’ house, pick up my Honda and go back to his (our) place.

Transportation was one of those things I kind of forgot about until the last minute, luckily, we had plenty of friends willing to help out. Hoping your vintage car plan works out, I love how the inspiration pictures look!

I love the look of vintage/classic transportation, but couldn’t justify a 4-hour rental for a 4-minute drive. One avenue that almost worked, which could be a possibility for you, is to look into local classic car clubs. This way, you’d be working directly with the vehicles’ owners, instead of a rental company. That could also alleviate the “who will drive?” issue, too, if you can find an owner who’s willing to be your driver!

I hope the rolls royce works out for you Mink!

We’re spending the night in the hotel across the street from our venue so no grand exit for us! We’re just leaving when the party ends and walking back to the hotel! :D

Our hotel is a half block away, so we’re walking, LOL. But we want to take pictures a couple miles away at our old college campus (where we met) and I’m considering finding a vintage car that will just drive us there to take pictures and back…and not telling him! I think it’d be a nice surprise!

We are getting a Limo bus it is spendy but for the whole bridal party to be able to ride together for the 30 min ride will be worth it.

We’re renting from Charlottesville Sports Car Rentals (btw, they have a Buick Skylark that seats 4!). We’re getting a two-seater and my FI is SO excited about getting to drive a classic car. This actually works out since our reception ends somewhat early and neither of us wants to get too tipsy.

Good luck!

We are doing a vintage limo! Not sure if its a limo, it’s a large vintage car? I was planning on avoiding it because we are also getting married and having the reception in a vineyard. But then about 8 months before the wedding my MoH’s mom asked how we were leaving and then booked it for us as our wedding present. It was amazing!

@Zouave: Yep! I’ve met Andrea at a few events around town. I “eeked” when she got that deep, navy blue Rolls. I loooove it. :)

@toshella: Yep, that’s who we’ve been in touch with!

We used a limo to take me and the girls from my house to the church (20 mins), then me and the new hubby from church to reception (about 35 mins).
For another $100 we got a nice towncar to take the two of us from the reception to our BM/GM’s house for the after party (about 30 mins). It worked out perfectly and I think was money well spent.

We used my car, LOL. Our colors were blue and white, and I have a blue car. We decorated it with some flowers, and my dad drove it to the church. (Just down the road from my apartment, where I got ready – my dad was driving at about 10 mph ’cause I couldn’t wear the seatbelt in my gown, and it still only took 5 minutes!) DH drove us from the church to photo site (3 blocks) and then from there to the reception (5 minutes). DH also drove us at the end of the night to the B & B where we were staying, which was also only 5 minutes away! We couldn’t justify renting a car/limo/carriage/etc. for such short in-town drives. We did a farewell circle and then a surprise dance number for our big exit from the reception, then ran out of the hall and just got in the car and left.
