About Mrs. Beanstalk

Our Very Own Secret Garden

April 29th, 2012 @ 10:45 am by Mrs. Beanstalk

As Mr. Beanstalk and I watched the episode of TLC’s hit show Four Weddings that featured our possible wedding venue, Cauley Square Historic Village, we finally found it! Our dream wedding venue!

It looked like a small restaurant in the most beautiful garden setting. The building had that old Florida architecture with tons of character. And the wedding that took place there won first place! The only problem? We had no idea where this place was! I had taped the episode and watched it several times, hoping that I could decipher where in South Florida this wedding was.

I soon took to the internet and spent several hours on Google searching. I forget what it was I typed in exactly (maybe, “intimate South Florida garden wedding venues”?), but a list came up and, after clicking on each link, I finally found the venue featured in the episode! It is called the Sundy House and is located in historic downtown Delray Beach, which is about an hour north of Miami.

The Sundy House is a small boutique hotel that only has 11 rooms. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and used to be the home of John Shaw Sundy, former mayor of Delray Beach (1911–1927). The Inn is nestled within an acre of stunning tropical gardens, and the only freshwater swimming pond in Florida is located on the property! It truly is a unique and breathtaking venue. We knew we had found our wedding location!

The bar is located in an atrium—very tropical.

After contacting the hotel, we found out that it was within our budget and that they were available on our date! Plus we could do the ceremony and reception on site! I took it as a sign—it was meant to be! We let them knew we were interested, and within a few days a contract was drawn up.

Even though we knew in our hearts this was where we would be getting married, Mr. Beanstalk and I wanted my parents to visit the Sundy House. (Signing a contract without having ever visited the venue was kind of a big deal!) A week later my family went and met with the events manager. He walked them through the whole property and answered any questions they had. As soon as they left they called me and told us to go ahead and sign the contract. Everything was beautiful. They kept gushing about what a truly unique and magical venue this was! That it is just like a secret garden, tucked away in the heart of the downtown area. I was over the moon with joy. We signed the contract and sent our deposit. I was beyond excited! I had begun to think I would never find my perfect garden venue, but I finally did! Patience and perseverance pays off!

This is the dining room where our reception will be. How breathtaking is that vine-covered ceiling?

How did you find your dream wedding venue? Did you stumble upon it by watching a show (like I did), or was it a place you always fantasized tying the knot at?

Ours is somewhere I used to walk past when I went for days out walking and picnicking with my family as a kid. I always used to think it looked so beautiful! It was a place we definitely wanted to view when we were looking for venues, the first place we saw, and the obvious choice for us. Big enough to house all of our guests, but still very intimate and a gorgeous location.

We’ve been to three places so far, and none of them have fit the bill yet. Sigh. I hope we find it soon though. Congrats for getting that big step out of the way. It must be so exciting!

It’s lovely, it’ll make for awesome pictures.

I found our venue through FB pictures and spent a lot of time trying to figure which venue was and where it was, I fell in love with it at first sight and so did FI and at the end we got it!

What a beautiful venue! We’re getting married in St. Pete, Florida. We actually bought groupons to Sunken Gardens, a historical botanical garden, went and loved it. We loved it so much, we booked our wedding. It was beautiful. It wasn’t really in our budget, but it made sense after looking at other venues. So we didn’t find it by watching tv, but through using our groupons!

That place is completely magical!!! Gorgeous!!! We found our venue by looking online at historic mansions and when we walked in, we knew immediately that it was “our” place!!! It’s an amazing feeling when you find that special place to share your special day! Congrats Miss B

we did a google search for wedding venues, had visited a few but when we came to the granite rose and met with the event coordinator – it was a nobrainer. Not only was it beautiful (and within our price range) the fact that they were going to make a deal for us to upgrade all these things (like two rooms for the price of one) just because we were getting married on a holiday and wednesday to boot. well there was no question!

So beautiful! We drove past ours every time we had to get on I-95. It’s a hidden gem here in Fayetteville.

I love that you found your wedding through four weddings. Mainly though because I’m a little obsessed with watching it and guessing which wedding will win as “the best”

I would imagine by now you’ve had the wedding, but it looks very beautiful & intimate. I would like something like that for my wedding as well. :)

Not sure where you are from but Cauley Square is in Miami (almost Homestead, FL) and quite a bit faraway from Delray Beach (min 1.5+ hour drive) so I guess when you looked for South Florida intimate weddings you got the Sundy House, but for a local that is not close! Lol.
