The “R” Word

I refuse to recognize it by name right now. I am trying as hard as possible to dance around it, but I now know it is a possibility. As of right now, the weather is saying 30% chance of showers with possible thunderstorms. Now, the good part is that it is a high of 72 degrees. Not too hot, not too cold. But the ‘R’ word…seriously?!

I have had a few people give me some comfort. Bridesmaid C said that 30% precipitation is for that entire area, not necessarily that exact spot. We may not even see a cloud in the sky.

Mom Doe said that most regional weather reports predict there will be precipitation. However, the local channels are predicting that it is going to be clear.

I am not sure if they are just trying to make me feel better, or if that is true. I am hoping for the latter.

Remember this post I wrote about a while back where I discussed our back-up option? Everyone agreed the back up option is just as gorgeous. It truly is, but of course, we want the wedding outside, if at all possible.

At the end of that post I said:

Therefore if (insert ‘R’ word here) decides to rear its “lucky” head into our wedding day, I will embrace it with open arms. Bring it on rain, I’m not scared of you.

I am now scared of you rain. Please go away for another day.

What do you think,  hive? Should this Doe break out her umbrella and galoshes?

Okay, now I’m been dramatic. It is certainly not going to snow, right?….RIGHT?!

How are you dealing with the possibility of the ‘R’ word on your wedding day?

I am dealing with the almost certainty of beating sun and 90+ degrees. Ugh, that’s why I chose May, not July or August!
Whatev, we’ll sweat. Or do it inside, when we get a freak afternoon thunderstorm because it was 90+ at 4pm.
At least I’ll be wearing the right dress and not worried about tan lines. :)

Also umbrellas are adorable, bring them anyway. I might have to get some for shade!

Our forecast said partly cloudy. It poured rain the morning of. Thankfully it cleared by afternoon! But then there was wind. Oh well. Rain is good luck, supposedly.

Don’t worry about the rain now! If it’s one thing you can’t control in anything, especially wedding planning, is Mother Nature. We were looking at a 20% chance of showers the day of our wedding and ended up with a thunderstorm passing over at the exact time our outdoor wedding ceremony started.

Once the thunder/lightning died down, the show went on (thanks to a tent!) and it always makes for a good story.

Especially if you have a good backup plan, breathe and focus on other things !

Our wedding is outside in a beautiful garden in South Florida and the weather can be pretty unpredictable! Oh and did I mention, we’re getting married at the end of Hurricane season! I’m not too worried about possible tropical storms, but the possibility of rain and lightning is something I’ve started to wonder about! Our venue does have another (indoor) option, but I REALLy do not even want to thing about that…. it is not my ideal spot!!! I guess like many people say… rain on your wedding day is lucky!!

5 days before my wedding, the forecast was for ZERO percent chance of precipitation…And it rained the entire mothereffing day! Which just goes to show that weather forecasting is complete BS and you shouldn’t worry about what they’re saying the weather will be 5 days out because it will probably change at least 5 times before the big day (and hopefully for the better!)

I basically live in denial when it comes to rain! We have no back up plan to speak of. I’m thinking good thoughts for you!!!

After all the weather forecast predictions, nail biting and stressing, it rained. Not a drop until the grandparents started down the aisle of our outside wedding. In planning, we did have umbrellas as favors for the guest. And they went quick. So what did we do? We Danced in the Rain! It will be one wedding no one forgets. And it was amazing.

    As the saying goes,

“A Wedding is a Party, not a Performance.
If at the end of the day you are married to the one you Love, then everything went Perfectly!”

Bridesmaid C is right – 30% should be fine! It poured on my friend’s wedding day, and cleared up in the couple of hours before the ceremony. It was an absolutely perfectly beautiful and sunny day for the ceremony and the reception was outside and there wasn’t another drop of R! Fingers crossed for you, Miss Doe!
