Will You Be My Bridesmaid?

I knew one thing for certain when Fiance and I started planning our wedding—I wanted to find a special way to ask my wedding party. I’m a sentimental person and have always loved all the little details.

”˜Will you be my bridesmaid?” is a fairly new trend that I’ve seen on the web. And there are so many fun and creative ways to ask!

Some of my favorites are:

The super-cute paper dolls via Project Wedding

The bridesmaid “proposal” via mrsjimenez71203 on Weddingbee

Box with bridesmaid tank via Something Turquoise

You can even ask with M&Ms! via Best Destination Wedding

While these are all fabulous ideas, I wanted to come up with a variation on my own. It all started with these adorable cards I found on Etsy. (Etsy deserves its own post!) I decided to have cards made that said “hello beautiful” in shades of pink.

They turned out amazing!! / Cards by Sparrow Nest Script on Etsy

I wrote each one of my nine girls (eight bridesmaids, one junior) a note about why I was asking them to be part of my special day.

But I didn’t want to stop there.

I thought it would be fun to give each of them some of my favorite things as a “thank you” for accepting (or considering—part of the reason I wanted to send them a card is because I didn’t want anyone to feel like they had to say yes on the spot. Being part of a wedding is a big commitment and can be a lot of money.)

I started with my favorite container from Hallmark.

Then I added my favorite eos balm

…a small bottle of Essie “wedding-themed” nail polish…

…and hand lotion from Bath & Body Works.

I individually wrapped each item and put them inside the Hallmark gift box.

And sent them off to all nine girls.

I’m happy to report…they all said yes! :)

What other ideas have you heard to ask your ‘maids?

I cut out paper versions of each girl [each piece was individual so it took a lot longer than anticipated], glued the whole party to a personalized note to each one, and then put a fake flower in place of their bouquet. They all loved them :)

What a cute way to ask your girls to be a part of your wedding day! Personally, I’m over-the-moon thrilled about anything that involves Essie nail polish, so good job, Miss F!

I have those same adorable boxes! I did something similar when I asked my bridesmaids. Each girl got a black box that included a “Will You Be My Bridesmaid” card, a top 10 reasons to be my bridesmaid, a black “bridal entourage” tank top, a monogrammed tote bag (in the wedding colors), a copy of the 27 dresses dvd, and a bag of microwave popcorn to go w/the movie. I wrapped the whole thing up in black & white damask paper and tied with a big hot pink satin bow. The girls LOVED it!

Very cute!! Miss Fairy & Toni – Your BMs must have loved all the swag! How could they resist??

I made “Will you be my bridesmaids” cards. Took forever! Embossing, decorative punches, sewing, sigh… It’s multiple pages with each page having a theme of “something old”, “something new”, “something borrowed”, “something blue”, “silver sixpence in my shoe”. The last page said “AND you by my side”. What I could not imagine not having on my wedding day =) They all said yes =))

I used something similar to the box idea for the bridesmaids. My fiance and I decided on a map theme for our wedding so I purchased some plain wooden boxes (joanne’s or michael’s) and painted them brown and modge podged some map themed scrap book paper to the top. Inside I included a poem written to my bridesmaids to explain what I was asking them AND that they needed to send me a picture of them wearing the necklace I made them. Each necklace had a key and heart symbol on a chain. I made sure to tell them that they did not have to wear the necklaces on the big day unless they wanted to.

I told them in notes I included to them that the picture would be their confirmation and be used on the wedding website. This guaranteed that I had a good picture of them AND that they were confirmed. :)

Miss Fairy, you read my mind with this post…this week I’ve just been thinking of how to ask my bridesmaids to officially be in my wedding. I’m thinking of a little DYI project, which would be taking pictures that I have of each of them and I, scanning it and create an accordion card with the picture as the first fold, rest of the card will be a friendship letter and ask them “Will you be my bridesmaid?” at the end. I’m thinking of adding a candy ring at the end just for fun. Still thinking here…
