Mrs. Mink, Charlottesville, Virginia Age and Occupation: 34, College Administrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 40, Craft Beer Consultant Engagement Date: November 26, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards About Me: I left a pre-war brownstone in Boston six years ago to live in a funky, Southern city where Thomas Jefferson, Dave Matthews, and urban chicken keepers enjoy equal social standing. I still love my Patriots and Red Sox, but have fallen in love with Virginia. I work in education and specialize in integrating technology into my work to improve the student experience. I’m a diehard blogger, animal lover, jamband follower, and DIYer. I paint to relax and have transferred by energy from home projects to wedding projects in recent months. When Mr. Mink and I started talking about marriage, we knew our wedding would be outdoors, that my golden retriever would be part of the day, and that the music would be fantastic. We’ve taken a few risks during our planning process and we’ve been enjoying the process immensely!
About Mrs. Mink

Goodbye from Miss Mink

June 1st, 2012 @ 2:20 pm by Mrs. Mink

This is the last time I’ll be writing to you as Miss Mink. I have to admit that the week leading up to our wedding hasn’t been what I expected. As the various weather forecasts started to line up and agree, we had to define what had been a fairly vague rain plan.

I’m a little ashamed to admit it, but I’ve shed some tears in the last 48 hours over the weather and the changes to our plans. My main wishes for this day were to get married outdoors, with the Blue Ridge Mountains behind us, and to have my dog present. Thankfully, our venue briefly lifted their “no dogs inside” rule so Junior Mink can be part of our ceremony. However, getting married outdoors seems impossible right now.

I wish I could write a dreamy, bliss-filled “morning of my wedding” post like other bees have done before me, but I feel I have to be real.

So, goodbye from a sad Miss Mink. While I’m thrilled to be marrying Mr. Mink and am looking forward to tonight, I’m very sad that everything from our pictures to our decor (corn hole in the rain, anyone?) will be negatively affected by the rain.

You have had such a wonderful wedding planning experience. Your details are so beautiful–can’t wait to see your pictures.

Any photographer will tell you that rainy days make the best photos. If you haven’t already, google “rainy day wedding photography” for some amazing photos.

Good luck to you. I’ll pray for good weather!

You’re wedding is going to be beautiful and I am wishing that the storms give you an opening so you can dry off those guest chairs and get your ceremony in. Hopefully the clouds with give you some amazing pictures!!!

I’m so sorry about the rain Ms. Mink. I hope it is ‘scattered’ and hopefully, if you have an evening wedding, you could take some pictures when there is no rain. I am crossing my fingers and hoping for that for you. However, you have had so many amazing details that you have planned for your reception that I can’t wait for your recaps and I’m sure they will be amazing. I really am sorry about the rain. I know how disappointing that may be but honestly, I’m sure your wedding is going to be great no matter what)

I feel your pain. At least you have a back up plan.
I didn’t and people left pretty much right after our ceremony and dinner. Our ceremony and reception was planned from 5pm to 11pm. 90% of the 100+ guests were gone by 7:30. :( The wedding was completely over by 8:30.

It’s ok that you have shed tears over the weather. Those feelings are completely valid.

I hope and pray everything turns out wonderful as I’m sure they will. Try and enjoy your day and your new husband. Best of luck.

Hopefully it will just rain in other areas, and you’ll get to have the wedding of your dreams. If not, by the end of the day, you’ll still be married! Early congratulations!

I’m sorry the weather outlook is not so great. I have enjoyed following your planning journey so much and I know you are going to have an amazing wedding. Crossing my fingers that the weather holds up until after your ceremony. Have a thrilling wedding day and I can’t wait to hear all about it

Don’t lose hope. The forcast for our wedding kept changing. The night before the wedding I checked it one last time and at 1:00am it said rain. Then I woke up the next day and it had changed to no rain at all! It was a perfect day.

No matter what it will be beautiful but try not to get too obsessed with the weather forcast. It’s never accurate!

aww I’m sorry Mink, but don’t feel bad that you’re sad about it. It’s completely valid.. Trust me, I know, because it rained cats & dogs on my wedding day. While I still wish to this day that it could have been different, nothing could change the fact that I was able to marry my best friend.

Sending sunny thoughts your way! The others are right though – if you can get a break in the actual rainfall, colours in photos are much more vibrant after the rain. Have you got some cute wellies in your wedding colours?! Whatever the weather though you’ll be Mrs Mink by the end of the day! x

From one VA bride to another, I’m so sorry Miss Mink :( The weather has been just awful today here, and you have my sympathies. Keep in mind, though, that at the end of the day you will be married and that is what matters.

I forgot to add for the non-DC metro bees that unfortunately we’ve been having torrential downpours all afternoon and the entire area is under tornado watch. This isn’t a case of isolated spot showers :(

I’ve heard from some weather studying friends that it should be clear, but not very warm tomorrow, *fingers crossed* for you!! This was for the NRV, so you guys will hopefully have the same!

Oh, Miss Mink, my heart goes out to you with this weather. But I have a feeling that your wedding will still be magical – the decor, ceremony, dinner, dancing, music, and love of family and friends. My best to you, Mr. Mink, and Junior, too (glad he will be by your side).

Congrats, Mink! And I do appreciate your honesty. It is totally OK to feel letdown by this particular aspect of your wedding day while still being so excited to marry Mr. M. I’m still crossing my fingers for some blue skies, even if just for a bit, and the most beautiful and wonderful wedding day ever!
