Today I came home to our very first wedding gift. Well, I didn’t know what it was exactly…I assumed it was something I’d ordered online for another DIY project, and I didn’t look at the sender address before I ripped into it, no holds barred.
Turns out it was from Fiancee Eagle’s great aunt (who unfortunately can’t make the wedding). In addition to a very generous cheque, she handmade us both pearl necklaces. They incorporate cultured and freshwater pearls. She included a very sweet note about how we weren’t obligated to wear them on the wedding day, but if we wanted to we could. How could we not?! Ever since I saw Mrs. Snapdragon’s beautiful statement pearl necklace, I secretly wanted one, too. But I’ve put off looking for jewelry (and shoes! I’m a bad bride) and couldn’t find anything I really liked. Now I have something (and handmade!) that I LOVE.
And Fiancee Eagle will wear this one (which has beautiful fine details, like seed beads woven between the pearls):

We feel like they will complement each other without being exactly the same. The necklaces are a bit short, more choker-style, but we want more of a bib-necklace length, like Mrs. Snapdragon. We’re going to have my mom take a look at the necklaces, because she also makes a lot of jewelry. I’m confident that my mom can somehow add more chain or something so that the necklaces are bib length.
I must say…I thought I would be more excited to receive crystal and china as wedding gifts (and I still am!), but this first gift was amazing. I couldn’t imagine anything more perfect. I feel so lucky to have a statement pearl necklace like I wanted all along, and even more lucky that it was handcrafted by one of Fiancee Eagle’s family members.
Also this means that people have definitely gotten our wedding invitations in the mail! I can’t wait to share our invites with the hive later this week.
What was your first wedding gift? Did you receive any handmade wedding gifts that touched your heart?
