Mrs. Boa Constrictor's Picture
Mrs. Boa Constrictor, Isabela, Puerto Rico Age and Occupation: 22, Undergraduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Soon-to-be Civil Engineer Engagement Date: May 19, 2011 Wedding Date: May 2012 Venue: El Faro Convention Center About Me: I’m a Caribbean gal, born and bred on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, finishing her last year as an undergrad. I describe myself as a “closet nerd” as I secretly enjoy reading research papers, playing video games, and geeking out on Lord of the Rings movie marathons. I will marry my college sweetheart, a soon-to-be civil engineer, who loves Legos and old-school Puerto Rican cooking. This is sure to be a fast-paced year with our wedding, honeymoon, college graduation, new jobs, and a cross-country move all within less than 30 days of each other!
About Mrs. Boa Constrictor

As much as I love my curvy body, it sucks that my big thighs won’t let me wear short or skirts without some serious chafing going on—painful, irritating chafing that will not be fixed with anything. I’ve tried chafing gel, deodorant, baking soda, baby powder, etc., and nothing works. For a while there I stopped using any clothing that would make my thighs touch at all, limiting my options to jeans or slacks. That was until I discovered the wonders of shapewear.

Right now, I must own more than three or four different pieces and I swear by them. Any time I’m wearing a dress, even if it’s just to go out to the pharmacy, you can bet I have one of these suckers on.

I have this pair:

And this pair among my collection:

Obviously, I have to wear some form of shapewear under my wedding dress for my thighs’ sake. After finally trying my dress on a couple of weeks ago, and realizing how TIGHT it really was, I knew my regular old shapers just weren’t going to cut it. I also had to buy a new strapless bra because the sweetheart neckline shows my regular old ones. This brought me to a very logical conclusion: I should buy myself a body suit/unitard, that way I get a low cut bra, thigh protection and super slimming tummy action all at once. I chose this bad boy:

I have to tell you, its a big pain to get on. It took the help of both Mami Boa and Lil Boa and a little jumping around to make it fit right, but the end result is spectacular. My boobs are in exactly the right place, it covers my thighs nicely without being long enough to show under the short part of my wedding dress and it sucks in everything in a drastic way. I definitely noticed how much it helped when I tried on my finished wedding dress—it made everything smooth and tucked in. Once you put it on, it’s quiet comfortable, at least for me, and I loved the end result with my dress being so tight. So, I will certainly wear it on W-Day.

The only problem I found with my whole body shapewear is the logistics that will be involved in peeing . The body suit does have a hole in the bottom from which I could technically pee, but by wearing panties under the shapewear the hole becomes useless. Meaning I’d have to take the whole thing off to go to the bathroom unless I chose to go commando (something I’m not keen on) under it. I still haven’t decided what to do about this problem—maybe I could get a special kind of panty or something? Or I could just not have any liquids that day, leading to a possible dehydration that might make me end up in the hospital, possibly ruining my honeymoon plans—on second thought, lets just figure out how I can pee with this thing.

Did you use or are planning to use shapewear at your wedding? How would you solve my “how to pee” problem?

I am definitely going to wear shapewear of some kind. I am a bit chesty, so I need a supportive bra, and I get self-conscious about my midsection, so I think I’ll wear some sort of longline bra/corset thing. FYI, some of the pieces had little flats in the crotchular area precisely for the problem you discussed.

My friend from high school wore one of these, she chose not to wear underwear because her dress was a floor length ballgown so having to take it off and on every time was not going to happen. If your dress is short it may not be so much of a problem if you have ladies to help you every time you need to go.

I wear spanx under dresses too (although not every-day dresses, just nice fancy ones). It sucks peeing thru the flap but you get used to it. I can do it now even if I’ve had a few too many glasses of wine. Lol.

I’m curious about this too. My dress already has a longline bra sewn into it, but I have been considering a one-piece for a little added vavoom. However the peeing thing might prevent that.

So, yeah, I have no advice but I will be checking back to see anyone else’s suggestions!

use the flap as the geniuses at spanx have designed it… commando and then go. You will be happy that you did. Who wants to spend 20 minutes trying to pee and get redressed. You don’t want to miss the party!

I usually wear a stretchy thong under my spanx w/ flap, so I can just slide it over and out of the way for peeing.

I find that it works pretty well, and prevents commando concerns.

Why are you concerned about going commando? Get a nice bikini wax and be free!! And comfortable! And able to drink liquids! and not pull that thong out of your butt all night! Do it! :)

I always wondered about this and have held off from buying shapewear because of it! Thanks for posting!

I don’t wear panties with my body shaper. Most body shapers will show a VPL. If you pull it up the whole way (read shaper crotch is at your crotch), you can comfortably go potty with any collateral damage through the hole.

I think shapewear is fantastic for my self-esteem … until I take it off and realize how much work it’s actually doing for me.

*Sigh* I’ve gotta get back on the treadmill.

I so need to invest in some of these, I think they would do wonderful things for my attitude on dresses!

Gotta again sing praises of luvees.com. It’s thigh protection without the shapewear, so good for casual dresses too. Think I actually learned about it here on weddingbee. Pass it on…

I bought one and returned it. :) I just had my mom yank that dress as tight as she could – thank goodness for boning and laces.
As for peeing, I was drinking water and champagne all night but was sweating so much (90+ degrees in 30lbs of satin) that I didn’t really have to go until we got back to the hotel at the end of the night.
Under the dress I wore a thong and a split slip that I’ve had forever so my legs didn’t stick together. I snuck it off before MrJ unlaced me. :) (Actually I was like “no, wait, I have an un-sexy underthing that has to come off before you can unlace me!”) Then we were both so hot and sweaty that we got in the shower instead of bed (right away).

As horrifying as it sounds… I suppose you could use a SheWee (http://www.sheweeusa.com/shop/). It just might work…
