About Mrs. Scepter

Accessorizing

June 22nd, 2012 @ 4:01 pm by Mrs. Scepter

In my day-to-day life, my ability is slim to none. I wear my engagement ring on my left hand and a ring Mr. Scepter gave me when we were in high school on my right hand. Every now and then I throw on a necklace, but that is about as fancy as it gets for me. I wanted my bridal look to kick it up a notch, so over the last few months I have slowly gathered a collection of things to accessorize my wedding dress with.

I have always loved any type of hair accessory. Hats, headbands, hair clips—name it and I will wear it. I am going to wear a veil for our ceremony, but I plan to take it off for the reception so I wanted to have some kind of hair piece I could wear for the whole night. Surprisingly, Amazon had a ton of choices. (I don’t know why I was so surprised—they have everything.) There were three that I loved, but in the end I ordered this beauty:

I thought it might be difficult to find a necklace that would work with the modified sweetheart neckline on my dress, so I decided to wear earrings and a bracelet and leave my neckline bare. The earrings turned out to be pretty easy to find. I wanted a pair that would incorporate the navy color of our wedding, and after one quick trip to Dillard’s I found what I was looking for.

During a trip to the outlet mall, I found a bracelet at the Off Saks store that I loved, but it was a little over the budget I had had in mind. I went back a second time to look at it, but I still couldn’t bring myself to spend that much on a bracelet I knew I wouldn’t wear that often.

Over Easter weekend I told my mom about my bracelet conundrum, and she promptly walked to her jewelery case and pulled out a gorgeous bracelet that belonged to my great-grandmother.

It needs a good cleaning, but I think it is beautiful. (Side note: The best way to clean rhinestones is with Windex. Cleaning them with jewelry cleaner will make the rhinestones cloudy.)

Last, but not least, was the task of finding a garter. I wanted to have two (one to throw and one to keep), and I found a gorgeous set on Etsy. I sent the seller my measurements, and within a week I had my garters.

I am so excited to wear all of it! What accessories are you wearing with your dress? Where did you find them?

That bracelet is beyond stunning, Scepter! It’s so special that it belonged to your great-grandmother, too.

I love your great grandmother’s bracelet! Will that also be your “Something Old” or “Something Borrrowed”?

Also, that tip on cleaning rhinestones with Windex was very helpful! THank you for that!

Love your accessories — especially that bracelet, it’s beautiful! I have a lot of beading on the bust of my dress so I’m doing the same as you — sparkly earrings and bracelet, but no necklace. :)

Congratulations on your engagement!

This may seem random, but I make jewelry and more specifically I made earrings and a hair piece for my cousin’s wedding. I would be do happy to make something for you. Free of charge, if you would be willing to let me use the images of the pieces for my (yet to be, currently non-existent) portfolio.

I really would love to “break into” the business and you really inspired me. I understand if my proposal (no pun intended) isn’t for you… but if you’re interested please let me know. I would be happy to send you photos of some of my pieces if you like.

Warm wishes,
Joanna
