Mrs. Dragon's Picture
Mrs. Dragon, Sioux Lookout/Brockville, ON Age and Occupation: 24, Journalist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Graphic Designer Engagement Date: August 22, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2012 Venue: Mother of the Bride’s Residence About Me: I moved to Northern Ontario for a job, expecting to be single for the year I'd be there. Within one month I was dating a co-worker, and now, more than two years later, we’re planning a wedding and I’m still a Northern girl. I’m a reporter and a photographer for a small-town newspaper, and I get to do all kinds of fun, exciting, and sometimes weird things at work. When I’m not getting the scoop, I’m cooking, adventuring, playing with our three black cats, or blogging.
About Mrs. Dragon

When we sent out our save the dates I used whatever permanent postage stamps Mr. Dragon managed to pick up, which happened to be ones featuring the Canadarm and other fun Canadian things. We didn’t really care that much about pretty stamps, to be honest.

I hadn’t really considered what to do for our wedding postage. There didn’t seem to be many options…

I was all set to pay tribute to the Canadarm again when Mr. Dragon’s step-mom intervened. She works for Canada Post, and let us know about Picture Postage, a service that lets you put your own image on a permanent stamp. She was pretty psyched about it and offered to hook us up, so of course we said yes!

I wasn’t sure if I wanted stamps with our faces on them, or something a bit more abstract but still representative of us, but in the end we decided on one of our engagement photos. FSMIL Dragon put the order in, and a week or two later we had these:

She also ordered us a keepsake sheet, which has a large photo of the stamp on top:

I wasn’t really thinking when I gave her the numbers for what we’d need, and only factored in one stamp per envelope. Of course our invitations were over the standard weight, so each invitation required two stamps. Luckily, FSMIL Dragon ordered extras, and by the time I was done stamping everything I had one stamp left over. Phew!

Here’s a little preview of how they look on our RSVP envelopes:

Mr. Dragon, upon hearing the stamps were in, asked me if we looked like the Queen, hence the title of this post. I think they’re really cute! Now I just have to finish up my last few envelopes, then take these suckers to the post office for hand cancellation and manual sorting (gulp).

How did you select your wedding-invitation postage?

Michael J Fox stamps- COOL!
I like yours, I contemplated doing custom stamps, but don’t want to spend the money. Its sweet that you had an inside hook up!

I love them! Mr Dragon looks so handsome and you look beautiful! Great choice, because Canada Post has shitty stamp options eh?

@KimbeeQ: Thanks! I should be clear that she ordered and paid for them just like anyone else would, but we wouldn’t have known about them without her!
@Mrs. Sunhat: Amongst other Canadian heroes. ;)
@Miss Eagle: At one point, when I first started looking, they had some sunflower stamps I didn’t mind, but it looks like all the somewhat interesting stuff is really expensive!
@Mrs. Pony: If our colours were green I would have went for it! :P

I just recently found out that you could have your photo put on a stamp… what a neat idea, and so cool you got a keepsake sheet!!

For my Save the Dates I did the same thing… lovely Liberty Bell Forever stamps for everyone! But when it came time to send my invites, we wandered into a post office, expecting to find the generic cheesy wedding stamps that everyone seems to use… Instead we found some awesome stamps with bonsai trees on them! My theme for my wedding involves trees, and there are trees on my invites, so they were just perfect!

In fact, when one of my aunts emailed me to tell me how much she loved our invites, I emailed her back and said “I’m glad you liked them! But did you notice the STAMPS??”

They look awesome! I wanted to do the custom photo stamp but couldn’t rationalize the cost. :(

@alicia1745: If I were paying for it myself there’s no way I’d do it! But it was offered as a gift, so why say no?

I really wanted to customize our stamps. In the US there’s actually companies that will customize stamps to be a specific amount, which I wanted to do. Except I by the time the invites were finished and weighed I was behind schedule and didn’t have time to order stamps. But hopefully with our thank you’s at least, I can come use a custom made stamp.

Love the picture postage and was SO thinking of doing it.. but then… I decided to order a slew (at regular Canadapost price and no shipping) of the ROYAL WEDDING STAMPS! I’m really excited and think everything will look SO cute.
