Miss Bracelet, Frankfurt, Germany/Rapid City, SD Age and Occupation: 26, Post-Graduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Electrical Engineering Student/ Ex-Navy Cal Tech Engagement Date: May 11, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2012 Venue: Schloss Heiligenberg/ Spearfish Canyon Lodge About Me: I'm a half-American from Germany who fell in love with a wonderful guy from Montana. We met in Japan and have been in a LDR for most of our relationship. I love organizing so much that it could be my middle name (Post-Its, anyone?). I have a serious addiction to paper products and milk chocolate. My fiancé totally gets my tomboy-princess-combo personality and will bring me chocolate when I need a pick-me-up. After a legal ceremony in Germany, we're planning a down-to-earth (semi-destination) wedding with our friends and family in the US.
About Mrs. Bracelet

Please Be Seated

July 9th, 2012 @ 5:13 am by Mrs. Bracelet

I want our guests to be able to enjoy our reception to its fullest and relax. And part of that is, in my opinion, knowing where to sit right as they walk in. This organizational matter seems to broadly fall into two categories:

Escort cards, where each guest has a card with their name and table assignment on it. They are usually organized alphabetically.

A seating chart, where all the guests’ names are listed at once. They are usually organized alphabetically or by table.

I love the look of neatly arranged escort cards, but we don’t have the space for a large group of people to mill around. The hallway leads directly to our reception room, and I would hate for a traffic jam to happen. Therefore, a seating chart it is.

Our seating chart will also definitely be alphabetical to avoid confusion. Despite having only about 100 guests, many are related and share the same last name. Some are related and have the same first name, while others are completely unrelated but share the same first name. (My cousin’s new husband’s name is the same as Mr. Bracelet’s cousin’s husband’s—and we’re not talking about top 50 popular baby names of the past.)

Although I’ve tried to “avoid” (read: make really sure I like it because it is my style, not like it because it is new or popular) wedding trends, there is one trend that I’m totally enchanted with: Chalkboards!

This is actually a digitally created chart.

I think chalkboards for seating charts are a fabulous idea! And since I haven’t been able to shut up about this, Mr. Bracelet has offered to make one for us.

Did you use escort cards or a seating chart? Does anyone else love chalkboards?

I also try to “avoid” wedding trends, but I kind of love this idea. Can’t wait to see how yours turns out!

I love chalkboards and using them for a seating chart is a great idea in case you need to change something at the last minute!

I like the look of chalkboards.

I’m glad we’re not making a seating chart cause it sounds like a lot of work but I really like some of the ideas for escort cards and I find myself looking for ways to incorparate them.

I just went to a wedding where they had a seating chart and there was a HUGE line to enter the venue, plus there were over 200 guests, which I guess forced them to write the info out SUPER, SUPER small, so everyone was standing there for a while trying to find where their information was. Once I did find my info, it was written in some crazy script font, so I wasn’t sure if my table was 20 or something else… Also, I think removing the alphabetical aspect of escort cards does create a little confusion. People are searching for their names.

I like the last execution-the fake chalkboard since it’s very neat, alphabetical, easy to read, plus its fun.

I really like the chalkboard idea. :) Plus, there’s no excuse if someone loses their escort card (something that’s bound to happen at my family wedding). I love Mrs. Bunting’s digital one. Can’t wait to see yours!
