OK, So I Cared about the Stamp

July 25th, 2012 @ 11:59 am by Mrs. Genie

I didn’t care about stamps. I don’t care about stamps. But with my invitations, I all of a sudden cared. How did that happen?

The invitations weighed in at 85 cents for postage. I was slightly relieved that they cost more than 65 cents because I am not a fan of the dated wedding stamps offered by the USPS. They seriously remind me of my grandparents’ Golden Anniversary in 1993.

I didn’t care enough about stamps to not put Forever Liberty Bells on my invitations, but since I had the time to look and they fit our “budget,” I went shopping for a specific stamp. I remembered a stamp I saw on a couple of invitations, and was eager to use them. They are not Forever stamps, but two of them would equate to 88 cents, just three cents over the postage. What were these stamps?

I love how the connected stamps show the queen holding flowers! Also, these stamps have a secret something to do with us. =) So, they really were perfect.

The response envelopes carry the Ribbon Love stamps, which are Forever stamps and were also seen on our Bengali invitations. The bright red is perfect!

Somehow, I ended up caring about stamps. I totally didn’t intend that, but I am happy with the stamps that went out, and I think the little detail was not totally overlooked by our friends and family.

That’s enough talk about envelopes! Get ready for the next post: The Invitation Reveal!

I used the “dated” 65 cent wedding cake stamps (which are actually a new release) for my invitations. I thought they were pretty, timeless, and a perfect match for our theme.

I’ve got two months to go until my wedding and I TOTALLY ended up caring about stamps! I used the lovebirds LOVE stamps on my save the dates and then the red ribbon LOVE stamps on my invites. I was distraught when I ran out of the red stamps and ended up using the left over green lovebirds stamps to finish out the invites. Little did I know I would have to send out extra invites and I had to buy the white rose wedding stamps. I like those stamps, I think they’re pretty, but they don’t go with the theme…all that to say that I completely relate!

Mrs. Genie, I’m totally with you. I think the USPS wedding stamps stink! So glad you found a pretty alternative that fit in your budget!

I just finished my invitations; i’m going to the post office tomorrow to see how much it will cost to send. I’m afraid it’s too heavy for one stamp!!! eek :(

On another note…. i LOVE how they turned out and will post pictures at a later time :)

I used the same combination of stamps for our invites and reply cards. I loved the King & Queen of Hearts!

I ended up using the new Pixar forever stamps! Since our invitations were a little more casual and we had craft paper envelopes- they looked really cute!

I cared about the stamps until I showed up at the Post Office. I went to the only (very small) branch in the small county where I worked. They didn’t have a great selection, so I just had to suck it up and have oddly mismatching stamps.

I was the same way (didn’t think I would care about such a minor detail, and then after spending so much energy on the invites, didn’t want to just slap a fugly stamp on them and call it a day).

We actually ended up using these same stamps. I thought they were subtle and lovey without being too cheesy, and we’re also big card fans. Don’t tell my FI, but I bought these before I knew how much our postage would be. Once we incorporated our wax seals, though, the weight of our invites took them up to 0.85 postage…perfect!

So funny that the USPS stamps are so polarizing. I loved the wedding cake and white rose stamps. In fact my wedding cake looked like the one on the stamp and I adored it.
Different strokes!

I didn’t care about stamps until I saw that there were some that could match our invites :)

I used the king/queen love stamps for our invitations but was a couple short. I definitely felt sad when I had to switch to something less “love”ly. It is funny how these little things tend to matter more when you are planning a wedding.

I am a huge philatelist, and thus DEFINITELY cared about the stamps we used. We wound up with a fun mix of vintage postage that coordinated with our location.

If others are looking at the modern postage and not feeling that the options work for them, please feel free to drop me an email at craftgasm at gmaildotcom (and check out my blog post for our save the date postcards, which feature vintage stamps: http://craftgasmdc.blogspot.com/2011/07/personal-project.html ) and I’ll help you come up with vintage postage options that work for your aesthetic and budget.

I think I just now noticed that the king and queen stamps have the word “love” on them.. ha! Anyway, I was a total nut about stamps. I’m sure no one noticed (and I ended up having issues with the post office because of the ones we actually chose) – but it’s one of those little things you can have so much fun with!

When I worked for the post office, you could go on the internet and put whatever you wanted on the stamp and order how many you needed. They would put their pictures (of the bride and groom) on the stamps. Of course, they cost more than the regular stamps, but what the heck, this is for your special event. And your picture was on the outside of the envelope in the upper right hand corner. I’m surprised that the post offices didn’t advise you of this service, or maybe they don’t do that anymore.
