Timing is Everything

In other words, the timeline. This thing was both my savior and the bane of my existence.

Initially, I was super excited to write out a timeline for the big day. Heck, we were six months out and I was running around telling Foxy that we needed to get. it. done. now. How could we wait? The wedding was only six months away! I need to know what I’m doing! Everyone else needs to know what they’re doing! How could this possibly wait?!

Well…it did wait. And the week before the wedding, I realized I still didn’t have a timeline. I mean, I had an order for the girls to get their hair done in the morning, but that was about it. At that point, I just stopped caring. Wouldn’t the magical wedding gods just do their thing and everyone would just know where to go and where to be?

Um…no. Trust me, it doesn’t work that way. Even with a timeline. Thankfully, I had officiant Em to kick me in the butt and get me moving on this—AKA, she took her old wedding day timeline and substituted in all my information. Huzzah!

Which is how we went from a vague idea of the hair schedule, to this:

Yep. Everyone even knew when I showered, which became a running joke of the wedding weekend. Whatever, at least they knew I was clean.

Now, for all my insanity then nonchalance about the timeline, I came to realize that it was absolutely crucial. I had very few people actually ask me when they were supposed to be somewhere or do something, and when they did, they got the same answer as everyone else: Where’s your timeline? Look at your timeline! (I promise it wasn’t as bitchy as it sounds…that became the other running joke of the weekend!) Because…well…heck *I* knew what time we were supposed to be anywhere or do anything. To which everyone taunted me with “Where’s your timeline?!” Jerks.

I have to say, though, that we ran fairly close to on-time all day thanks to this thing. That, and the mad wedding-coordinator-extraordinaire skills of officiant Em.

At the rehearsal…you don’t want to cross this girl. ;)

Did you or will you have a timeline for your wedding day? Did you end up following it in the end?

Heck yes I will have a timeline. My sister/MOH is super-organized and obsessed with spreadsheets, so I think she will take charge of it. But I think the first thing on my timeline will be “rouse hung-over bridesmaids with promises of mocha lattes and/or bloody marys…”

“Seriously, do not f*cking f*ck with me right now.” -Em’s inner monologue in that picture. (Yes, the officiant has a potty mouth.)

@SouthernmostBride: Ha! I love it! I’m betting the allure of lattes & bloody mary’s will surely rouse them!
@EAQ219: Thankfully, you reserved that for the rehearsal and not the actual ceremony. Or did you? Muahaha.
@MrsStobe: Keep working on it! I honestly had no idea what would actually be going on until about the week of.. you’ll get there! @gonnabeMrsHH: Ha! Which means you will have. your. shiz. together. =D

Em’s face is the best in that photo. Don’t mess with her! :)
My coordinator made a 5 page timeline and broke down every single detail of our day, it was such a lifesaver cause I did not have my shiz together to make one myself!

Weird coincidences I can’t help but point out: #1: Obviously our names. #2: My bridal party includes two Jess’ and an Emily, and my DOC is an Emily.

Moving on – I am obsessed with timelines. I have two versions saved as it is, with a complete list of ‘Must Have’ pictures. And I will lose my damn mind if someone asks me what time he/she should be in a certain place. . .woo, goodness. I’m sure your patience was MUCH appreciated (and much healthier). :)

Giiiirl, where were you a month ago?! I did not have a timeline and it was bad. Very bad. Bahahaha.

    Ladies… Follow Mrs. Fox’s advice. Don’t do what I did! ;)

I wish I had made a timeline more like your’s or Mrs. Turkey’s. The best man, with whom we live, kept freaking asking me when and where things were happening. Nothing’s changed since the first ten times. Leave me alone.

I had a detailed, color-coded timeline and everyone teased me about it. But did everyone know when/where to go & what to do? Why yes they did! Our day went super smoothly, even though people still tease me about it to this day (and it’s been almost 3 years!)

The timeline is causing me stress right now. There’s so much going on! Thanks for posting yours. It’s helpful to see what others have done.
