Mrs. Archer's Picture
Mrs. Archer, Los Angeles/New Orleans Age and Occupation: 26, Marketing and Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Actor-Writer, Fitness Instructor Engagement Date: May 15, 2011 Wedding Date: October 2012 Venue: the Columns Hotel About Me: I’ve been in love with Mr. Archer for my entire adult life. After over seven years, two of them long distance, we're thrilled to (finally!) be planning a sweet Southern jazzy Jewish destination wedding. Working in marketing for a clothing company and running a niche consulting company with Mr. A, life is crazy, in the best possible way! I adore Saints football, dressing up, dance television, bright colors, beautiful things, and alliteration. When I’m not working, sleeping, or smooching my handsome fiancé, I’m making lists, cooking, or eating or drinking something yummy, bargain-shopping, and still oogling my heirloom engagement ring....ooh, sparkly!
About Mrs. Archer

There have been parts of the wedding-planning budget that have been not so much fun, so let’s own that here. Conversely, there have been parts of wedding planning that I’ve really enjoyed. One of my favorite things to do is to plan “outfits” for events, and I have totally (to saturation point) embraced that, along with the “brides wear white” tradition. From the very beginning.

It’s a little silly, but I’m a little silly. And now that we’re officially in the wedding windup, I have several upcoming wedding events to plan for, and I’ve really enjoyed getting outfits together. Over the last year, I’ve hit some sales and had some good finds, and Mom Archer and another bee have helped too. Not gonna lie, I’ve got a wardrobe lineup I’m really excited to wear!

For my upcoming shower in New York, I snagged this dress for 65% off on a flash-sale site, after a bit of a hunt. I had missed it a few other times on sale, and was determined. It’s clearly mostly not white, but it will be rewearable post wedding and I think it’s adorable. Those Bandolino wedges were clearanced on endless.com for like 50 bucks, and I needed new white wedges anyway. I ordered like four pairs to try on and promptly sent the other (more expensive) pairs back.

I’ve got a shower in Los Angeles coming up soon too, and my mom found me this pretty white sundress on clearance at Lord and Taylor. I’ll be wearing it with those strappy Kate Spade heels I found on eBay for under $40 shipped, some hot pink lipstick, and a fun themed accessory TBD.

For my bachelorette night—planned for the Thursday before the wedding—I may wear this dress I ordered. I really like it, but on my body, it’s doing a LOT. I’m waiting to see how I feel in it post-alterations. If I feel too self-conscious/ trying too hard, I might just pull something from my closet or hit up Rent the Runway.

I first spotted my rehearsal dinner dress at Anthropologie late last year. I tried it on and loved it, but thought it was too early to buy, and it was far spendier than I wanted. But by the time I was actively shopping this spring, I realized it’s perfection. But it was sold out everywhere, except for listings on eBay that were either wrong-sized or ransom-priced. Then one day I got onto the ’Bee, and Mrs. Dalmatian’s post about her rehearsal dinner dress was at the top—the dress I was looking for! As fast as my fingers could fly, I messaged her offering to buy it post wedding. It turned out to be a size smaller than I had tried on, but I’ve lost a bit of weight so I crossed my fingers…and when it arrived, it fit perfectly! I’m honestly a bit obsessed with this dress—the cut, the shimmery fabric, the full skirt, that amazeball back—and I can’t wait to wear it. I’m still looking for shoes for this, because it’s sometimes silvery and sometimes golden—maybe an accent color? Any suggestions?

I do still need one more dress—to change into after the wedding. We’re definitely post-partying downtown, and I won’t want to wear my gown for sure. I’ve tried a few things on, and ordered-and-returned a few others. Mom Archer has an idea for something that sounds pretty fab, so I’m just letting her make it. She knows how to dress my body, and though she sometimes wants me to dress a little too trendy, she gets my style. So I’m on board for just about anything she comes up with, and if I randomly hate it, she’ll either whip up something else (I know how ridiculous that sounds, but it is true) or I’ll change back into my rehearsal dinner dress.

And of course, there is still the matter of my wedding dress…we’ll wrap up TWDC with Part Three, up next!

How did you feel about wearing “bridal white” pre-wedding? Did you plan special outfits for wedding events? If so, where did you find them?

I love seeing all the dress/outfit plans! I also lusted over the anthro dress and regret not trying harder to buy it when it finally went on sale…

I bought my rehearsal dress at Anthropologie! I had been saving up gift cards that I had gotten for Christmas and birthdays to snag my dream Anthropologie dress. Ps I love the dress you bought for your bacholorette night! It’s so cute please wear it!

Your dresses are adorable, love that Anthropologie dress! I opted to buy dresses that I would wear again because I am cheap and that was the only way I could justify new clothes :)

Love the pre-wedding white dresses! I ended up wearing patterned dresses with a white or ivory background for my bachelorette party, bridal shower, and rehearsal dinner.

Oh, I am milking the “bride wears white” thing for all it’s worth! I have a white dress for the shower, rehearsal, post-rehearsal night out, and even one or two for the honeymoon – glad I’m not the only one with lots of white dresses! :)

Basically the only event I’ve bought an outfit for is the shower. Although I’m not a big shopping person. I am hoping to buy a new dress for the rehearsal, although when I brought it up to my fiance he couldn’t understand why and told me I have plenty of clothes I could wear. Ha!

If I bought this many outfits for the wedding my fiance would have a fit!! Lol I love that one you are getting off Miss Dalmatian though! For the night before the wedding I am going to go with Italian tradition of wearing green!

I have totally been searching for that Anthropologie dress since I saw Dalmatian’s post and the hunt is still on. I LOVE your bachelorette party dress, it is stunning. I have also been doing the white dress wear-a-thon for wedding events.
