Holy Matri-pony: Introductions

August 9th, 2012 @ 11:52 am by Mrs. Pony

When we were planning our reception, I was originally against the idea of introductions for the wedding party. When I’ve been a part of introductions in the past, I felt that they were contrived and unnatural. It’s probably more the case that I am awkward and unnatural, so we decided not to hold that against our wedding party and forged ahead with introductions for all.

We lined the wedding party up outside the ballroom, where they got their game faces on.

We didn’t give them any instructions or restrictions, we just let them loose to the tune of the “Main Title” from Star Wars.

GM S and BM M start things off on a playful note.

Then it was GM T and BM B, whose mismatched dancing styles make me smile.

Apparently GM D and BM J weren’t in the mood to dance.

And, rounding out the wedding party, it was BM B and MOH E’s turn to make an entrance.

With the wedding-party entrances finished, the music switched to Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” signaling it was time for us to enter. Since no one had thought to open both doors, I entered first and apparently made this lovely face.

Mr. P was right behind me.

We started off acting rather demure.

But, Mr. Pony decided to kick things up a notch with a few dance moves.

I tried to join him in dancing, but I just ended up laughing and enjoying a short serenade from my new husband instead.

Because we’re doing open seating, and we don’t want to force all of our wedding party to sit with each other/without the other guests, we’re only being introduced ourselves and letting them take a seat earlier on!

At the last wedding I was in, the bride and groom basically told us to do whatever we wanted during our introductions, so it was a mad 5 minutes with every ‘couple’ trying to figure out how to be better than the last! :)

I also think intros are contrived and awkward, but Mr. T thinks they’re fun, so we’re doing it.

I really really don’t want to do them. I firmly believe no one pays attention.

I think it’s totally skippable if you have a more reserved or shy wedding party. I also think it can be fun if you have a wedding party full of attention hogs like I will! Then you can let them have their fifteen minutes of fame and maybe get a few laughs too.

We are doing the introductions, but I’ve been in so many weddings that I actually enjoy when the bridal party doesn’t do a signature entrance (like the shopping cart, running man, going fishing, etc). Maybe that’ just because I feel like we’ve seen it all and by the time the bridal party members get to their ‘stunt’ the dj has already announced the next couple.

I was not going to do intros but my bridal party objected. they want to do it.
I think intros are so awkward but they didn’t want to just walk in without any fan fare.
is there an alternative? what else have people done?

First, your photos are so fun. And second, introductions are so, so awful and awkward! I don’t ever want to do anything other than smile and walk to my seat, and I hate being asked to perform in front of an audience I don’t know! Also…I mean, do the guests even care who is in the bridal party? Not to be harsh, because of course they are so important to the married couple, I just feel like no one else really knows them, so introducing them isn’t that important, right?

Oh, I LOVE the introductions. I’m such a goober, they’re up there on my ‘favorite part of a wedding’ list. At a recent wedding, a BM and GM switched clothes and the Bride & Groom had NO clue. At another, the B&G let each couple choose their entrance song – we were howling. I am so excited for ours, it’s something I think about super often.

I am so excited for our introductions. We don’t have a traditional wedding party because we’re not doing a ceremony, so it’s just me, DH, and our sisters (there’s 12 of them between us!! 6 are mine and 6 are his! lol). I WAS thinking of doing a slow…boring…walk into the venue to a romantic piano tune, but the more I think about it, I’m scared that our guests would just zonk out, lol. I WOULD! So now I gotta rethink this…I know some of my sisters and SILs are quite the attention hogs (lol) so I think they’d be up for some fun.
