Mrs. Toadstool's Picture
Mrs. Toadstool, Obregon, Mexico Age and Occupation: 23, Research Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Sales Manager Engagement Date: October 1, 2011 Wedding Date: December 2012 Venue: Hacienda los Agaves About Me: I’m a born and bred Mexican girl with a severe coffee addiction, an obsession for books and an aversion for exercise. I like to plan things, so this wedding’s my dream project---I just need to remind myself from time to time that I’m the bride and not just the planner. I recently realized brown’s my favorite color as I was trying to incorporate it in every aspect of our wedding and I'm dreaming of an autumn vibe since we don’t have that around here. I’m marrying my best friend and partner in crime on the day of our nine-year anniversary! He’s an awesome, smart, fun guy who is patient, and crazy enough to spend the rest of his life with me. We’re planning our not-so-dreamy dream wedding in December in a non-traditional way and making it our own.

On Liking (Most Of) My Body…

August 10th, 2012 @ 10:00 am by Mrs. Toadstool

I’m not skinny, it’s in my genes. I don’t think about myself as plus size, but I’ll let you decide by yourselves.

I’ve come to terms with my body. I’m curvy and thick, and as much as I exercise (which I don’t, but I’m saying this hypothetically) I would never look like this:

There’s a myth that the perfect women’s measures are 90-60-90 (or 36-24-36 inches for those in the English system).

That means 90cm boobs, 60cm waist and 90cm hips. It’s a curvy girl.

Holding my breath

Well, I’m curvy. I’m a 96-77-102 girl (38-30-40in). I’m definitely not skinny, but what can I do? I’m a Latin girl with curvy genetics (yes, I like to blame genes). I’m comfortable with my body for the most part, but I’m aware of my flaws:

  • Thighs: I have thick thighs; I say they’re thick rather than fat cause they don’t jiggle (yaay) because it’s all muscle. I have my dad’s mom to thank for it—she gave us big thighs and curvy legs, but thankfully they’re all muscle instead of fat.
  • Ribs: Yes, it’s a body part. The thing is, I have a broad rib cage which translates into a broad back and broad shoulders. It’s another of grandma’s gifts. This makes me look big in the upper part, so even if I have rockin’ abs (which I don’t), I’d still look big.
  • Boobs: They’re not big for some people’s standards; I’m a really full B or small C. I consider it a perfect size—not big enough to bother me, but big enough to look like I have some. Best of all I can gain some weight in the middle area without it being too noticeable.
  • Tummy: The dreaded part. I’ve never had a flat tummy. I guess I could if I exercised, but I don’t. I do have a waist line, which is great because it masks those little weight gains.
  • Arms: They’re not exactly big, but they tend to turn into what we call “the chicken wing”. You know, when your forearm dangles like a wing. Thankfully mine are not dangling… yet.
  • Height: I’m short. I’m 1.56m high (5,12ft), so because I’m short, everything looks broader.

Now, let’s focus on the wedding. I’ll [hopefully] be wearing a big [BIG] dress that’ll cover my thighs and will be tight enough to show a reasonably small waist line, the problem here is my arms. I guess I should start lifting some weights. Shake weight anyone?

Man it’s so weird to put this on the internet.

How about you? What do you like about your body? Is there anything you want(ed) to change for your wedding? Have you made peace with what you can’t change or are you trying to do something about it?

I actually bought the shake weight, maybe 2 years ago.. and I can honestly say, I think it works. No I don’t have bulging biceps and my arms still jiggle a lit.. but it definitely helps to tone things up. At one point I actually stopped using it, because I felt my triceps were looking too big. As my wedding gets closer I’ll start doing the shake weight every other day to help tone things up.

Pushups are the easiest and most effective way to tone arms! They are difficult but they produce results.

Right there with you girl! Funny thing- I have NEVER had a flat stomach either! I think its something about the build we have that it just won’t happen without some sort of extreme exercise or diet.

You look great! Rock your bod!

I have a broad rib cage too! I never even thought about it until trying on wedding dresses and the consultant mentioned it. Makes sense why my bra size never changes even though I’ve lost 40 pounds.

I had every intention of toning up for the wedding but then life got in the way. I’m at my happy weight right now (where my body naturally goes if I eat relatively well and move around a bit). I know I could be smaller, and I know if I don’t watch it I’ll keep getting bigger, but at this point I’m just forgetting about it!

You look great, BTW. :)

I wrote a post about body image yesterday and maybe you’ll find something useful in it? Our culture doesn’t exactly encourage healthy eating or positive body images so it’s important to do what feels right for YOU. Stay strong!

I was never much of an exercise person either but I started using myfitnesspal and it’s been a huge help in helping me “tame” some of my curviness. If you’re interested, def check it out. I recommend it to everyone :)

I think that you look great, but even more than that, you have a positive body image which is beyond great :)

I’m probably going to get engaged in the next year and I’m starting to freak out about my body even now. If you want a tool to help you focus on your diet, seriously check out http://www.MyFitnessPal.com. You can track online and through their mobile apps. You can literally find just about any and every food available and what’s not on there, you can add.

If you put in ALL your information (it was scary for me lol) and put in the commitment, it really really helps.

First, I think you look great. I also think we see ourselves much differently than others see us. I have huge thighs thanks to my grandfather and when I read you did, I said, “Really?”. Our thighs may be the same size but I think mine are about 3 times the size of your thighs, haha. :) But I am trying to get in shape before the wedding (hello P90X). I’d like to slim down and do something about my horrible looking upper arms. Exercising, focusing on food choices, and looking at portion size are the biggest things for me. Also, realizing that inches lost will come before pounds is the biggest motivator. Stepping on the scale and seeing I lost 3 pounds after 2 weeks vs. losing 1 inch in my hips…well, I felt a whole lot better after the measurements.

Ugh, FI and I just started doing P90X together, and it’s kicking my ass. We’re not particularly active people.

I can deal with the little pooch of fat on my stomach (this is normal for women, as estrogen causes you to store fat there), but I’m really self conscious about the bit of fat right below my boobs that sits on top of my ribs. I need to wear a pretty taut bra band to get the support I need, and it only emphasizes the problem.

I know my wedding dress will hold all of that in on my wedding day, but I am also really worried about back fat. I realized that it made a cameo in photos where I was shopping for my dress. I haven’t quite mastered the art of working out my back, so anyone with any tips, please share. Aaaaand now I feel petty for being self conscious.

I think you wrote your height wrong. 5’12″ would be 6 feet tall. 154cm is 5′ 1 1/2″.

YOU LOOK AMAZING WOMAN! That said, you need to feel comfortable on your wedding day. I’d like to shed another 10ish before my special day and I agree on the big boobs, ribcage, and arms, they all make me look bigger than I really am!
