Mrs. Coach, Dallas Age and Occupation: 21, Undergraduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Retail Sales/Management Engagement Date: October 14, 2011 Wedding Date: October 2012 Venue: Piazza in the Village About Me: I was born and raised in the piney woods of East Texas, but Dallas has recently stolen my heart (along with Mr. Coach, of course!) I love classic rock, suspense novels, and my sweet Mini Aussie puppy, Memphis. My fiancé and I are planning a traditional wedding filled with romance, and we can’t wait to combine our own personal touches with a timeless affair. We’re young in years, but are also old souls that love good food and great music, and enjoy many things that are well before our time. We’re planning this wedding together, learning lots, and relying on good wine and reruns of Seinfeld to keep us sane along the way!

What to Wear: Hair Accessories

August 10th, 2012 @ 6:51 am by Mrs. Coach

I know I haven’t been too detailed when it comes to what I’ll be wearing on the big day. I told you guys about my shoe options, gave you a preview of my makeup, and talked about getting-ready attire, but other than that I haven’t revealed much. Today that changes, because I want to talk to you guys about hair accessories for the wedding.

But, for the first time, I have to kick Mr. Coach out (sorry, love—no peeking at this post!) :

Now, back to the good stuff. I wanted to find something fun and unique to wear in my hair for the reception. I will be wearing a veil during the ceremony, and as much as I love it with my dress, it just wouldn’t be a good choice for the reception. It’s looong—we’re talking cathedral plus extra length added, and it would just be a nuisance during dinner and dancing. I’m actually really OK with taking it off, however, because that means I’ll get to do somewhat of a wardrobe change! I won’t be changing my dress altogether, but we’ll bustle the train and remove my veil for a more fun alternative.

I started off thinking I might want to keep the veil theme going, and just trade one veil for another. Maybe a petite birdcage? I quickly decided this was not going to match my dress all that well (ughh, DYING to show you guys), and I wasn’t even sure I could pull off the look.

I moved on to accessories. Of course, this led me to Etsy, where brides-to-be can waste hours upon hours in handmade heaven. Hair accessory searches left me with options like these:

A dainty headband:

A vintage-inspired hair comb:

Or romantic flowers:

Although I favored each of these at some point, I decided hair flowers were going to be the perfect choice for me. After a little more browsing and not finding exactly what I was looking for, I remembered a post I had bookmarked a while back from Mrs. Hawk about a similar search. At this point, I honestly couldn’t remember why I had saved it (I often bookmark pages, and then can’t remember what it was that led me to do so—sad, I know), but once I revisited the post, I knew what had caught my eye the first time—the gorgeous clay flowers:

I was hooked! So, I bought one. :) And it came in the mail yesterday—I told you guys wedding mail is the best thing ever!

I decided to go with one of their larger options and just get one flower. That’s a standard business card to give you an idea of the size. The flower looks and feels great—it’s super lightweight. I just love all of the little texture details! DK Designs describes this style as the type of gardenia you would see in the South, and I think they’re spot on—beautiful!

Can’t wait to show off this beauty at the reception, and show you guys how it looked! Has anyone else been looking for hair accessories lately? The amount of choices is just unbelievable!

I looooove a flower tucked in for the reception- I will also be removing my cathedral veil and trading it in for a hair accessories. You’re so right, it’s a mini outfit change!

Beautiful!

I bought and used the same flower from DK Designs! I wore it for my bridal shower.

Just be careful when you insert it! I had my hair done and the hair stylist pressed the clip down with her thumb ON one of the peddles..! She cracked it! :(

It’s beautiful. The concept of clay flowers is still weird to me cause I expect someting thick and heavy, I glad this is light.

@RochelleED: Ohh no, this’d be one of my concerns with these flowers, specially being so thin, clay is crackable. I guess as long as you’re careful when putting it and not banging your head everywhere, you should be fine.

Gorgeous. I, too, bookmarked Mrs. Hawk’s post, but unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll have a place for clay flowers (as cool as I think they are!). I think it’ll make a great keepsake, and I always love when I can justify wedding purchases by saying they’ll last forever, they can be reused, etc. etc.

I’m so glad to hear someone else loves these also. Funny story, I just bought mine 2 days ago. It’s great to hear they are good quality. Thanks for the size reference, I was worried about that.

I’ve been thinking about a hair flower for a while, but I’m still unsure. Although there are only a few weeks left until our wedding, so if I’m going to do it, I really need to do it soon.

So gorgeous! What beautiful workmanship, and I love that you can keep it (unlike a real gardenia)!

@RochelleED: Thanks for the heads up! I’ll be doing my own hair at that point so I’ll be sure to be extra careful!
