I am currently in love with sock buns (also called doughnut buns)! I just love how elegant and classy this hairstyle is.

What I find so fascinating about this updo is that it can be achieved by using a single sock! Yes, you heard right…a sock! That’s all it takes (and some practice, of course). Now, this is not a new trend or hairstyle…it’s been around for a while, but I have to admit, it’s completely new to me! A while back Miss Potion mentioned the sock bun, and I had no idea what she was talking about (sure, I’d seen girls rocking buns on top of their heads, but I had NO idea that they were made from socks…or purchased hair doughnuts).

For a great tutorial check out Wedding Chicks.
You can customize the bun to fit your personality or wedding-day style. You can have a sleek bun on top of just like Lauren Conrad, or you can place the bun lower down on your head. You can also choose to have a looser bun and/or braid the ends! You can use a small sock to yield a cute petite bun, or opt for a beefier bun and use a thicker sock (or even a leg warmer)! There’s so many ways to rock this look and make it your own!

LOVE this look on Hilary Duff. It isn’t your traditional sock bun (the hair is combed over instead of giving the appearance that it swirls around), but I still totally am crushing on it! I am a HUGE Duff fan (loved Lizzie McGuire), but I have to admit, I wasn’t loving this hairstyle when I first saw it on her a few years ago. I thought it was so strange! Maybe now that I’m planning my own wedding I have found a new appreciation of a simple sophisticated updo!

I think I just might have found my wedding hairstyle! Remember, I was torn between wearing it up or letting my natural curls hang loose? I’m leaning on the pulled up side and am thinking this just might be the perfect style! It just seems so regal and bridal in my eyes (not to mention it will guarantee a fuss-free hair night!). I haven’t decided anything for certain yet, but I am totally digging this chic updo.
Grainy iPhone photo of me and my first ever attempt at a sock bun! It’s a little messy, but you get the idea! If I did do it for my wedding, I’d have it a bit tighter (and no flyaway hairs!).
How are you wearing your hair on your big day? Any other brides thinking of rocking a sock bun?
