Suburban Sunday

Mr. T and I are very much city people, but last Sunday, we ventured out to Schaumburg to get decorations for our reception. Why Schaumburg? Because it’s home to the happiest place on earth.

We stocked up on tealight candle holders and picture frames for our table numbers, seating chart, and family wedding photos.

For everything, we only spent about $120. That’s pretty good considering we bought enough stuff to outfit 16 tables, plus our guestbook/gift table!

Did anyone else have Ikea decorations at their wedding?

That is my IKEA store too! I used a frame for our guest book and their tea lights!

When I saw IKEA on Weddingbee, I figured it meant TOLSBY frames. I picked up a bunch there too when I went! They’re great!

Picked up the same TOLSBY frames last week! I love IKEA. Stopped by the one in Bolingbrook to pick up something else and ended up with the frames because they totally reorganized the store and I was lost! Being lost in IKEA is dangerous to my bank account!

So jealous.. we live hours away from an Ikea, so convincing Fiance it’s in our best interest to drive to one has been a process :)

Thank you for the idea!!! I love IKEA and for some reason I didn’t even think about going there for wedding stuff. I was planning on going tomorrow for a few things I need but now I will be scouting wedding decor. Thank you!!!

I love Ikea!! We bought tons of small votive candles for our tables there. how many candles did you buy for each table? We debated that for a long time. Also gotta love their cheap frames!

That is where I go too but I have to drive 1.5 hours to get there from Wisconsin.. I already made one trip much smaller than yours but I have feeling I will be going back sometime for some more things. We got our pots for our centerpieces, some frames and tea light holders from there.

I went to that Ikea to get the drinking glasses we used at our wedding! It was my first Ikea experience and so overwhelming!

Sigh. I don’t have an Ikea anywhere near me. I feel so deprived.

I’ve been hitting mostly thrift stores and occasionally Pat Catans for wedding decor. So far, I’ve spent around $60 for dozens of vases, gold photo frames, about 25 glass votive candles, and 12 glass pillar candles.

We have a few items that came from Ikea. I believe we have the same tealight candle holders. It was the least expensive place we found for what we needed. I’m so happy our Ikea is only about 30 mins from where we live!

I love IKEA! I used frames from them for menus, table numbers and guest book instructions. And the 24 frames cost me $50. Deal!

I love IKEA, too! We used those super-sized tealight candles they have and rebuilt two cork boards into one to use as an escort card display.

If you haven’t opened up your picture frames, you should see if you can return them (the white plastic ones with the little screw on stands)! I know they were super cheap, but I have a box of them (I think I have 23?) that you can borrow if you want!

Also – The Schaumburg IKEA is waaaay better than the Bolingbrook one! I love the cart escalator ;-) !

@Mrs. Giraffe: Thanks for the offer, but for the $16 we spent on frames, I’m not sure it’s worth it to drive all the way back out there. I also love the cart escalator!

Love IKEA! I didn’t use them in my wedding, but that’s where we got our bedroom furniture.

Actually, I gave champagne glasses from IKEA to my bridesmaids now that I think about it (after doing the glitter paint thing). And we drank from them getting ready that morning. So, I guess IKEA kinda factored into my wedding :)

    Hi Mrs. Treasure,
I’m getting married at the Murphy next summer. My mom came across your blog. How did you go about setting up your own decorations at the Murphy? Did you have to go there yourself the afternoon of the wedding? I’d love to get some cost-saving ideas from you, as well as your vendor list, if you wouldn’t mind. We want to do a budget wedding in a fab location. It sounds like you were able to accomplish this, so I’d love your tips!!!

@Elise: Hi, Elise. We worked with Jewell Catering, and they set everything up for us. I would highly recommend working with Jewell. Most of our budget went to catering, so that’s the best place to work to keep your budget under control. Good luck!

Thanks!! Did you give Jewell the stuff you got at Ikea or did you have to set it up yourself?
