Mrs. Unicorn, Atlanta, Georgia Age and Occupation: 22, Retail Sales Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Graphic Designer Engagement Date: November 27, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2012 Venue: The Farm About Me: I’m an impatient, impulsive person with a creative side and a flair for the dramatic. I’m very much a DIY sort of girl, and I have the messy craft table to prove it. I worked at a veterinary clinic for the better part of seven years before diving headfirst into the totally different world of sales. I must say, the change has been one for the better; I no longer have clients that bite or scratch, nor does my workplace smell of kitty litter. My true passion, however, is aerial acrobatics and dance, and I hope to open my own studio one day. Mr. Unicorn doesn’t bat an eye when he comes home from work to find his fiancée hanging upside down from a pole. Together, we enjoy shooting things (with a camera), playing Xbox games (my strategy consists primarily of button-mashing), and enjoying the company of our spoiled pit bull named Leeloo. We are planning a fall wedding with lots of DIY details and a rustic-chic vibe. Our budget is tight, but we know we can work around it to plan the wedding we want.

Weather Woes

August 22nd, 2012 @ 2:11 pm by Mrs. Unicorn

Hive, I’ve been a little absent around here lately. With only 10 days to the wedding, my hectic work schedule, and fall semester just beginning, I feel completely overwhelmed. But I haven’t forgotten about you, and I hope you haven’t forgotten about me!

In fact, I went ahead and hammered out a few posts during my accounting class today. I gotta admit that I prefer blogging about wedding stuff to learning the difference between accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Anywho.

With the wedding date looming ever closer, it’s getting harder and harder not to think about the weather. Back in January, when we had juuuust started planning this thing, I made a solemn vow to myself that I would NOT think about the weather, and that I would just take everything in stride.

I know that there’s something to be said for romantic, misty, dewy wedding pictures, but I kind of have my heart set on a breezy, sunshiny wedding day. I’ll have to wait until tomorrow for my wedding day to actually make it into the 10-day forecast, but as of right now, it’s not looking too good.

The silly weather people are predicting thunderstorms for the three days preceding MY WEDDING DAY. What’s up with that? Did they not get the memo??? I’m kind of hoping that the sky gets it all out of its system on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, leaving me with the picture-perfect, partly cloudy Saturday that I so desperately want.

I know there’s nothing I can do about the weather, and our venue has a “Plan B” in case it rains, but I reeeeeally want some sunshine. The “Plan B” is not nearly as gorgeous as the outdoor option, and the venue charges an extra $1,000 for using it.

This is where you come in, hive. I need you all to pray, do anti-rain interpretive dances, send sunshine vibes, or WHATEVER you have to do.

How did the weather turn out on your wedding day? Rainy-day brides, do you have any words of consolation in case my wedding ends up being soggier than planned?

I was in your exact same place 10 days before my wedding as well. The forecast predicted storms, and I was hitting “refresh” every 5 minutes in hopes it would change its mind. Then, three days before my wedding, my dad died, and it put everything in perspective. Just as the forecast said, it rained on my wedding day that weekend, and I guess when it rained, it poured. But I managed to focus on the things that went right, and when I could have been crying, I chose to dance instead. Keep a level head! Don’t stress about the things out of your control! Be thankful to be surrounded by the people you love! And to be marrying the person you love most!

Crossing fingers for non rainy wedding day for the Unicorns!
Not that I think it works, but there’s this Argentinan belief that says that if you want to delay rain you should bury an egg and spread some ashes over it, never have done it but it’s the only thing I can think of right now.

Hoping for non-rain!

I was also hoping for the same since we had an outdoor ceremony and tented reception. And we got what we asked for….except instead of it being a breezy/cool fall day, it was 97 degrees and sweltering. Phew! So warm.

Sending all the no-rain vibes I got your way! I was really down because it was a good chance it would rain on our wedding day, but it all worked out :)

I live in Seattle and though it really doesn’t rain as much as the movies make it seem, it definitely does rain a bit. I went with an indoor venue so that I didn’t need to stress about it. I really want to do outdoor photos, though, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. (I do kind of love photos with umbrellas and rainboots, though).

I’ll send good weather thoughts your way! You’ve got plenty to be stressed about; your weather should just get a clue! :)

I am in your boat!! we are ten (plus one) days out and I realized there is a tropical storm hitting Florida and the Caribbean soon, so now I’m worried about bad weather on the honeymoon or rain on the wedding day. Sigh. Positive thoughts!

Good luck :) I’m sure rain or no rain it’ll be perfect
A wonderful day for you both, family and friends.
I actually hoped for a few sprinkles, but not until after I arrived at our venue. ;) .
