Mrs. Archer, Los Angeles/New Orleans Age and Occupation: 26, Marketing and Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Actor-Writer, Fitness Instructor Engagement Date: May 15, 2011 Wedding Date: October 2012 Venue: the Columns Hotel About Me: I’ve been in love with Mr. Archer for my entire adult life. After over seven years, two of them long distance, we're thrilled to (finally!) be planning a sweet Southern jazzy Jewish destination wedding. Working in marketing for a clothing company and running a niche consulting company with Mr. A, life is crazy, in the best possible way! I adore Saints football, dressing up, dance television, bright colors, beautiful things, and alliteration. When I’m not working, sleeping, or smooching my handsome fiancé, I’m making lists, cooking, or eating or drinking something yummy, bargain-shopping, and still oogling my heirloom engagement ring....ooh, sparkly!

Some Copycat DIYs

August 28th, 2012 @ 8:17 am by Mrs. Archer

I’ve credited the hive for some of my ideas before, so it’s no surprise that I found myself again inspired on a few wedding projects. People around these parts are really creative and crafty!

For myself, I splurged a bit on a custom wire hanger from blackscrapcat on Etsy—Saraswati on the boards first introduced me to her work.

I’m obsessed with it, but I couldn’t justify the cost when multiplied by eight bridesmaids and four flower girls. So, inspired by Mrs. Hyena, and Miss Dragon, I decided to hit up Ikea and Michaels for the supplies for some DIY hangers. I dusted off my sorority-girl paint-pen skills, printed some initial templates, and an episode of Chopped later, had some good-looking hangers for my girls to hang their dresses on! I’ve got wide gray satin ribbon that will make some pretty little bows to top them off, too!

Like Mrs. Woodpecker and Mrs. Eagle, I came across the something turquoise tutorial on glitter champagne glasses. I used some letter stickers to mask out initials, but three coats of glitter later, they were tough to peel off. I used a Xacto knife to kind of scratch and peel and got them off though, and I think they’re pretty cute.

And for a guestbook, I totally ripped off Mrs. Bacon. I realized that we were lacking a card box for our quickly(!!!) approaching wedding, so I did a Weddingbee search. I showed a few different ideas to Mr. Archer, and he chose his favorite—done and done. I ordered a cheap gray mailbox on Amazon and a yellow vinyl decal of our last name from an Etsy artisan, so I’m hoping it comes together and is adorable!

You’ve been a busy bee, Miss Archer! I love how you personalized the glasses and the hangers. I’m pretty sure I got all of my projects, except for the Scrabble coasters from the Hive.

I found the hive to be my biggest source of inspiration as well…there’s no place quite like it :) I did the mailbox too, and I became oddly obsessed with it, can’t wait to see yours!

SO many great places for inspiration- HERE, Pinterest, Etsy, Martha Stewart Weddings. It’s great that we have all these resources together to pick and choose from AND organize (pinterest). I’ve really enjoyed the whole wedding process and LOVE the DIY aspects of my wedding. It’s been a fun ride!

I wish I had come across these hangers before I started carving metal for my friend’s wedding! Much easier!

Luckily, though, it turns out that I have a knack for forming the wire, so I guess it all turned out okay in the end. :D
