You Guessed It: Our Guestbook

September 4th, 2012 @ 8:40 am by Mrs. Dalmatian

As you may have guessed from our engagement photo props, I love to quilt. I enjoy the sewing itself as well as the outcome—I am sucker for anything and everything patchwork. That being said, I adored the idea of a guestbook quilt, with each quest signing a fabric square.

However, my love for all things fabric had already dictated quite a few other wedding choices. We had already incorporated fabric save-the-dates, fabric table runners and fabric escort cards. Now this is by no means an admission that there is such a thing as too much fabric (I would never do such a thing!), but I did decide to go in a different direction.

I turned to an idea that is quite popular and I can see why. A little part of me wanted a unique guestbook just for the sake of having a unique guestbook, but in the end the engagement photo book just made too much sense for us. We were happy with our engagement session and wanted a keepsake of the photos. I also wanted whatever our guests signed to be something we would actually get out and look at in the future. And so the decision was made.

I did a lot of research online as to what site to use to order the book. I found myself going in circles and finally just made a choice. We went with the Pacific album from Bay Photo because they offered the hard pages that I wanted for a price that was reasonable compared to other options (note: unfortunately, it was still a pretty penny).

I was very happy with Bay Photo. I can’t speak to how expansive their page design options were because we stuck with basic layouts with lots of white space, but they had great customer service (I had to chat with them to make sure that you could write on the pages), the turn-around time was fast and I was extremely pleased with the quality of the product.

The pages are sturdy, the colors are vibrant and the leather cover is very smooth and nice. It came in a nice box with a protective sleeve and even a separate blank page to test pens on—genius! All in all, I think it was worth it. I must say our guests did a fantastic job spreading out their comments and it is so much fun to look through!

“and the leather cover is very smooth and nice.”
But it looks so… sigh…. resigning to the inevitable bashing that will follow…

With someone who loves quilting, and a sucker for anything and everything patchwork, this is a very plain looking guest book! I know it’s leather and you don’t fool with leather… I was hoping to see a colorful cover. I’m sorry! But the INSIDE looks great with the photos and comments from the guests!

We will have a wooden board with lots of skeleton keys hanging off nails. Attatched the the keys will be a tag for guests to sign their names and write tips for “keys to a successful marriage”. They will then hang their keys back on the nail which will be displayed at the wedding and later in our home as decor.

I can’t wait to see how it turns out. I also love the quilt idea. My mom quilts and I know if we did something like that she would sew us the quilt (I’ve tried to learn but sewing machines do not like me). Very cute idea.

That is great! I really love the idea of the engagement photo guest book. What kinds of paper pages did you use?

I loved this idea, but beacuse we didn’t do a formal proper photo shoot we don’t really have a big enough variety of photos to pull it off! Instead we are doing fun questionnaire style guestbook with a poloroid camera set up too!
