Tote Bags for the Bridesmaids

September 13th, 2012 @ 5:57 am by Mrs. Coach

I’ve always been a little skeptical when it comes to buying items online. Factors like quality of the product and the unknown delivery time really make me worry. During college, I started buying textbooks online (instead of paying the unbelievable amount the bookstore wanted), and this helped my fears a little, but now that I am in full-on wedding-planning mode, I can’t imagine not shopping online. Not having access to the world of Etsy would have completely denied me of so many wedding details, and I couldn’t have had important parts of our big day, like the invitations, if it weren’t for online shops like Minted. So, I’ve put most of my fears aside, and I have no problem making those online purchases anymore! My bank account is not happy about this, but I sure am—especially when I get to show you guys a fun purchase like the one I just recently made.

I really wanted to get a fun bag/tote/purse to give to my bridesmaids to use during the wedding. I know you guys are no strangers to bridesmaid totes around here—Miss Lyre DIY’ed her own chevron totes, and Miss Hawk did some awesome monograms, but while I’m working on numerous other projects, I decided to search the web for a pre-made option that I couldn’t live without. :)

Options on Etsy were abundant, but also a little pricey for my liking. I kept looking back at these chevron options because they were so fun, but for the size and lack of personalization I thought the price was a little much.

I’ve always thought the jute monogrammed bags from Ballard Designs look so nice, but again, too pricey to be buying for a group! Not to mention I really liked the white, and it was on back order. *sigh*

Finally, I ended up at the Wedding Chicks shop, and starting searching through their many options of $10 totes. The price was certainly right, I just wasn’t sure about finding the right design. I really liked bags that had both “bridesmaid” and the name on them, rather than just one or the other (I know, I know—obsessive much?), and of course the option that I liked (Rosy) at Wedding Chicks was not a $10 tote, but a $26 one. Fail. However (yes, there is an ending in sight), I actually fell in love with another very simple design, the Lavish Bridal Party tote. I ordered them—much more willingly than a Miss Coach just a few years ago would’ve done—and they have arrived!

Of course, I was a little unsure what the quality would be like having never purchased from their shop before, but I am really happy with how they turned out! They are a little bigger than I was expecting, they’re good quality for wedding-day use, and the printing looks great. They have a lot of color options (I’m boring and chose black) that could match any bridal party’s colors, and they also have matching mother of the bride/groom bags, which I thought were fun. I got Momma C a bag as well, but didn’t put it in the pictures—let’s see how closely she reads my posts. ;)

I’m planning to fill the bags with all kinds of wedding-day goodies, including the girls’ getting ready attire (more on that soon, but here’s my inspiration post) and some “just in case” things they might need. I’m also thinking about personalizing them just a little more. I’d really like to have the girls’ names on their bags, maybe with a fun tag or pin attached? Either could be DIY’ed super easy! I’m also thinking about dressing them up a little more, maybe with a fun faux flower attached in red to match their dresses?

Here’s where I would love some help from you guys—what did you put in bags to give to your bridesmaids? Anything you didn’t include that you wish you would’ve?

I’m so digging the chevron totes, but I love the elegant script on the bags you got! I didn’t give my girls bags but I have received them before. A timeline summary of the day is super helpful. Some mints and a bottle of water are great too.

I got almost those exact chevron totes from a different Etsy store! I loved that each girl could have her own color. In each bag I put:

-Sparkly makeup case with day-of kit (tissues, Advil packet, band-aids, hand sanitizer, compact mirror, gum, Luna bar)
-Pashmina for when the evening gets cool
-A bottle of wine for 4 girls, slippers for my non-drinker BM, and a necklace for my junior BM

Love the bags you chose, the font is so pretty! I vote snacks and mini bottles of wine or bubbly, since everyone tends to get hungry and thirsty during the day.

I love that chevron tote! But yeah, that price is high!

I got a great deal off etsy for totally custom totes and I gave each of my girls:
robes
a small coach coin purse (from the outlet!)
a small mesh makeup bag that had 2 bars of fancy locally made soap and a soap container
avon set of pedicure products inside a garment bag to wash unmentionables
a funny book about an inside joke we all share
my MOH got a large coach wallet and I gave her the first season of the hills on dvd in addition to the other things listed.

I think I did go a bit overboard but it was worth it, they are the most important girls! It makes for great pictures too!

One of my bridesmaids gave me a Wedding Chicks bag– this one: http://shop.weddingchicks.com/vineyard-welcome-wedding-tote/
:which was perfect because he’s a wine buyer. It’s so cute! I love the “vintage” look of the print. It’s not the most durable bag, so I’m saving it to use around the actual wedding date, but it’s super cute.

I love this idea! Such cute bags! Shipping to Australia is so expensive though!

I love the Wedding Chicks! I ordered tote bags from them to use as my out of town guest welcome bags — the ones that say “love, laughter, happily ever after” (also in black) — and was really happy with them.

Those chevron totes are super cute!!! But, I think you choice the best bag for your gifts because it tells the story of the day… the bags are labeled with each girl’s title (MOH, MOB, bridesmaid) and what could be more perfect (or bridal) than that?!? Plus, the font is so pretty!

Cute! Do your ladies know you are getting them totes? If not your post title may be giving it away!

That was such a cute and sweet idea. I love the personalization of the bag.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! @Sept Bride: I wasn’t so worried about them knowing what they were getting, as much as what they looked like, but thanks for the heads up :)

I’m a bit nervous about buying online too, since I want to be sure they are good quality. Have any of you bought anything from purses-bags-totes? I’m thinking of going with this bag, but afraid I’ll be disappointed with the quality, and I’m a nervous that I can’t return once they are monogrammed. What do you think?

I would love to know how these turned out, in terms of your BMs liking them. I’m trying to decide between getting ones that say their name and ones that have their wedding…title/role??
