Mrs. Wizard's Picture
Mrs. Wizard, Pittsburgh Age and Occupation: 22, Front-end Web Developer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Software Programmer Engagement Date: June 8, 2011 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Glades Pike Winery, Somerset, PA About Me: I’m a born-and-raised Pittsburgh girl marrying a born-and-raised Pittsburgh dude. I’m a stubborn Italian with a huge personality, and I love oldies music, baking, housewifery, and all things Harry Potter. He’s a quiet, level-headed guy who loves my cooking and laughs good-naturedly at my lack of verbal filter. He’s an intellectual who likes to learn, and can often be found going on "Wiki walks" and landing on the most hilariously weird articles imaginable. We truly are a case of "opposites attract," and we balance each other out perfectly. We keep each other sane and make each other laugh so hard we cry almost every day, and that’s all I could ever ask for. Together we’re planning a simple, elegant, summery June wedding, and we can’t wait to be Mr. and Mrs.!
About Mrs. Wizard

I know I’ve been spending a lot of time on the girls’ half of the morning, and I promise to show you the guys soon, but the story of our wedding day wouldn’t be complete without this next piece.

MOH Lefty came back into my room with her dress on just as her phone rang: Aunt C was calling and wanted to take everyone’s lunch orders. MOH Lefty ordered a sandwich, I ordered Pop-Tarts (I’m famously a bit of a Pop-Tart addict, and they were the only thing that sounded appetizing to my still-nervous stomach), and then she handed the phone to B. They discussed lunch options for a minute and B finished up by saying, “And no lunch meat for me.”

There was a beat of silence as she hung up the phone, and another beat before Michael, our photographer, asked, “…Are you pregnant?”

More silence. Uncomfortable shuffling. Keep in mind that I’m still trapped in the hair chair with a very hot curling iron an inch from my scalp, so all of this was going on behind me and I couldn’t turn my head to see. I don’t think our photographer thought much of his question—what are the odds? The “no lunch meat” thing was a little conspicuous, but maybe she was just on some weird diet, right? But next thing I know, I hear cheering, exclamations, and general racket, and it could only mean one thing. B was pregnant!

That’s a guilty smile if I ever saw one.

I said to her over the noise, “Get that iron out of my hair so I can turn around and hug you!”

That’s MOH Lefty in the foreground, probably shouting, “Are you serious?? ARE YOU SERIOUS?!!”

Yep, she’s serious!

There was so much cheering and excitement and hugging going on. This news was especially funny to me because, for the past few months every time Mr. Wiz and I had seen B, we’d always say to each other afterward, “Is it just me or was B showing a little? Is she pregnant?” We had even asked MOH Lefty (who is B’s cousin), and she said no. No way! Someone would have told her if B were pregnant!

Well, apparently, B was keeping it under wraps, but thanks to our photographer, the cat was out of the bag.

Pointing at Michael. “This is all your fault!”

B and her husband just had their first child about a year ago, and we were all over the moon in love with him from day one. Needless to say, we are equally over the moon about him becoming a big brother, and the way she “announced” it was just priceless!

Miss something? Follow along here!

First, I kick things off with our wedding video.
I go stir-crazy, and almost choke to death, the week before our wedding.
We had a pretty bad venue setup/rehearsal day.
I’m the bride with the weak stomach.
The crew arrives, and the ladies get pretty.

aww That is so exciting! But are you seriously not supposed to eat lunch meat when you’re pregnant? I’ve never heard of that.

You aren’t supposed to eat lunch meat while preganant. You can eat it if it’s been steamed in a microwave before, but I think that sounds gross!

So cute!

And yes, you are not supposed to eat lunch meat– concerns about specific bacteria (hence being ok after heating). There’s a long list of random things you’re not supposed to have!

I also find out about a BM being pregnant because of the wedding… Early on, before she was telling anyone, we went to order her dress and she tried to quietly tell the sales lady she would be pregnant but the sales lady responded a bit too loudly. :) Secret was out!

@Miss Treasure: @StephK527: I looked it up after she said that and apparently it’s because lunchmeat is a common place to get listeria, which is bad when you’re pregnant (or anytime, I guess, but especially when you’re pregnant!).

@Josina: Hahaha that’s adorable!

@G: it was a surprise slip and Mrs. Wizard was happy about it. What’s the problem? I think she’s down to earth enough that she realizes the world still spins and life comes and goes while people get married. Nothing to get mad about!

@Miss Treasure: lunch meat contains lysteria which can cause brain damage, still born births, etc. The no lunch meat has been the hardest food item to give up during pregnancy, and I don’t even regularly eat lunch meat when I’m not pregnant.
