Mrs. Potion, Herndon, VA Age and Occupation: 23, IT Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Sales Engagement Date: November 26, 2011 Wedding Date: November 2012 Venue: St. John’s Catholic Church / SpringHouse, Alexander City, AL About Me: We are two complete and total geeks that met at engineering camp, of all places, and after several years of being in love long-distance, we’re finally at the beginning of a lifetime together. We’re working with a modest budget to plan a long-distance wedding full of handmade details, Harry Potter references, and, most importantly, lots of love. I could spend an entire afternoon watching Food Network while shopping for shoes online, while he’d prefer to pwn some n00bs on Halo while blasting Deadmau5 on his stereo. I taught him how to swing dance and he taught me to appreciate Tolkien; he introduced me to LOST and I introduced him to the BBC’s Sherlock. I’m a Gryffindor, he’s a Ravenclaw, and we can spend hours discussing and debating the finer points of Rowling’s masterpiece. We’re so excited to be setting out on this adventure and I can’t wait to share all the details with you!

How to RSVP to the Potion Wedding

September 19th, 2012 @ 1:12 pm by Mrs. Potion

Previously, on Miss Potion’s blog:

  • Our wedding invitations are…different, to say the least
  • And we’re trying something…different…for the RSVPs
  • Online RSVPs!

So let’s pretend you got one of these in the mail recently:

Well, inside you’d find one of these:

{personal photo}

And you’d visit the website printed on the card:

{screenshot of our wedding website}

And then you’d click on RSVP in the side bar menu and be taken to a page with this form—whether you’re planning to come or not:

{screenshot of our wedding website}

And in that last space you’d enter the code found on your invitation before clicking “submit.” And the information would populate our Google Docs spreadsheet and we’d know whether or not you’re coming and how many people you’re bringing. And you’ll do all of this BEFORE the deadline printed on the card, and Miss Potion will not go insane.

Any questions?

I see you addressed my only concern by adding a line to call for the older folks who may not be comfortable RSVPing by internet.
Other than that I don’t see how anybody could mess up unless they lose their code.
We’re doing internet RSVPs too; it’s much more economical and you feel like you’re doing something good for the environment.

I love it. I want to do online RSVPS (to save money and to show off our wedding website) so I’m interested to see how well this works for you!

Do you get some sort of notification when this happens?

I love it! That’s such a good idea…RSVP’s seem to be really difficult for people, making it easier on them has to be a good thing. GO here, CLICK here, magical!

I really like it, and other than people RSVPing for more guests than the ones your inviting (which they do on paper anyways) it’s fantastic.
This is the future people!

I like that you added a code so that uninvited people can’t RSVP. My friend shared her wedding website on facebook and then complained cause random people were sending their RSVP. I tried to explain to her that since she shared it with everyone they assumed they were all invited. Because of that she had to close the RSVP online link. At least if you share it you will avoid this problem with a code being required.

Looks great! You’ll have to let us all know how it turned out! We had the option to RSVP online or you could send back the post card. Most people opted to send back the post card, but we did get a couple online rsvps!

I’m doing my online RSVPs through our wedding site created through theknot.com. We type in the guest list before sending out invites, and only people on that list can even enter their names, meaning they can’t add their own extra people (they’d have to call to ask us and get a firm nope sorry no room, lol) or non-invited people can’t randomly RSVP. Even the “old” people seem to be able to figure it out, the only problem was one uncle typed in his nickname instead of his full formal name and had to email asking why he wasn’t in the system, but that was an easy fix and STILL was quicker than waiting for a response card :) It also keeps track of how many people want what entree as well!

I love it!! That’s what we’re doing for our wedding also. Like someone else said, it’s economical and environmentally-friendly!! I really like the fact that you have to enter in a code. What website did you use? :)

We did online RSVP’s as well and we loved them-so easy to have a printed list of who’s coming and what their meal choices are! My mom thought it was a horrible idea though-she couldn’t fathom the thought of not having a mail in card for people!

I’m actually a huge fan of the postal service and receiving mail, but also appreciate the online option (which is especially nice for those who are too lazy to make it to a postbox, which was the case for a few of our guests). My cousin also did an electronic rsvp and had pretty good success, hopefully yours is successful as well! :)

What websites has everyone used for RSVPs?

How did you deter people from adding more to their party than you invited?

Did anyone have problems figuring out your website?
