Miss Cauldron, New York City/Austin Age and Occupation: 33, Human Resources Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Technology Engagement Date: October 8, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2012 Venue: Pecan Grove at the Salt Lick About Me: I grew up in the Lone Star State, but moved to NYC after college to get a taste of the Big Apple, and never left. I love baking, yoga, Mr. C, and sunshine (not necessarily in that order)! Mr. C and I met on Match.com back in 2007, and our second date was at a Texas barbecue restaurant in Manhattan. It’s only fitting that after almost five years together, we are getting married at an iconic Texas barbecue joint. (Shiner Bock and brisket, anyone?) I’m proud of the life we have built together around our love for each other, Mr. C’s crazy dog Bosley, and fun sailing adventures on our boat, and I’m looking forward to celebrating our marriage at one seriously awesome party in September.

Something Old…

September 25th, 2012 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. Cauldron

I decided to carry some heirlooms with me on my wedding day as my “something old.” The heirlooms are from my mom, my grandmother, and my great-grandma, all on my mom’s side. I’m honored to carry something from each of these women as I get married, and my grandmother and great-grandma have passed on, so this will be a small way for me to remember them on the day. I’m sure they would have loved to be part of it all.

The first is my mom’s original wedding ring set. We wear the same ring size, so here it is on my hand:

Manicure is Essie’s “Minimalistic”—I think it might be the wedding color!

Then we have a two-and-a-half dollar coin (it’s smaller than a penny!) from 1909, which belonged to my grandmother and was made into a pendant.

Apparently these two-and-a-half dollar coins are worth something close to $300 today!

And the third is a cross from my great-grandma. I still remember the day that she unclasped it from around her own neck and passed it on to me.

I am planning to have all three of these pieces attached to the stems of my bouquet somehow—I’ll leave that up to the excellent work of the girls at Posey Events.

Are you planning to wear or carry any family heirlooms during your ceremony? What are they?

Oh, I love all of these pieces, especially your mom’s original wedding set. It’s so unique!

I unfortunately don’t have any heirlooms that are suitable to take down the aisle with me. (I don’t think my great grandmother’s china would fit in my dress.)

Well I suppose I’m making the tradition. I was tipped with a sixpence years ago and told to keep it for my wedding by a very nice english couple. I miss them. Anyway, I put it in my jewelry box and forgot it. I found it again shortly before my sisters wedding and gave it to her to use, and I’ll be using it at mine. My mom gave a me a past, present, future blue marquise sapphire on my 25th birthday, that she was given to her by her mom. That’ll be my something blue. My sister saved two old skeleton keys from grandmas house on her bouquet, and is letting me use one for mine. and then my handkerchief that Nana made me when I was born. =)

3 generations = 3 cherished heirlooms
They are all lovely and hope Posey Events won’t lose them… For me, I would not let them out of my sight.

My mum’s mum died when she was 16, so I never met her but Mum says I’m very similar to her. I’ll be wearing her pearls on my wedding day, along with my mum’s veil and a charm on my bracelet which belonged to my dad’s mum who died when I was 7. It’s really important to me to have those things with me, because I’m incredibly close to my family.

My grandmother made a cloth sachet out of her wedding dress, her mother’s dress and her grandmother’s dress for all of us girl cousins to have on our wedding day. I attached my sachet to the the underskirt of my wedding dress – it was my something old.

My FMIL lent me a garter which has been worn by all the women in the family since around 1900–it is definitely my something old! I’m also borrowing a couple pieces of jewelry from my mom to satisfy something borrowed (a necklace that I have borrowed before), and something blue (a ring with sapphires)–probably not what you call “heirlooms” but special little family treasures anyway. :)

I wore my mothers wedding gown, made by my grandma. I wore a pink ruby necklace that belonged to my fathers mother, and carried an embroidered hankie that belonged to her too.

@The WeddingMoms:
That sounds lovely! I am glad the wedding gown fit you, my mom and grandmother didn’t have gowns at their weddings so I couldn’t do that.

Your heirlooms are beautiful! Such a nice way to honor important women.

I decided to wear my mother’s pearl tiara and cathedral veil. Hopefully it’s something I can pass on with my daughter as well.

Very beautiful heirlooms! My engagement ring is actually over 100 years old. it was my mother’s godmother’s engagement ring and my mom passed it down to me. she also has one for my sister when she gets older!

My ex-mother-in-law whom my family took care til the day she died. She was an amazing woman, friend , and mentor! My florist has made my holder of my bouquet from her old wedding dress, along with the beads as well. I know she would want that and I hope it gives a little luck, she was married to the love of her life for 58 years, their’s was a true “Love Story”. I feel so lucky!
